I think you take up to 5 if you’re ND and they’re the right guys. Don’t want a situation like start of last year where a couple injuries and a couple busts == doomsday.

Remember, in two years time you likely need at least two starters from this class as RS frosh because of pending draft entries from the ‘21 class.
Agreed 4 is the magic number, 5 is the flex number for the right addition.

Just to add a visual aspect to IrishLax's post. ND is at plenty of numbers for 2022 & 2023. 2024 is where it get tricky because there's so much movement that could happen. It is way too early to know if Correll and Kristofic will come back for a 6th year at ND. On top of that if Tosh Baker or Michael Carmody aren't starting then I don't see them coming back for a 5th year. And lastly the two junior tackles will surely have the opportunity to go pro after their junior years. If all of those guys leave then yes maybe some RS FR will need to be on the cusp of breaking into the lineup because the numbers will be a bit low but I could also see a scenario of Rocco Spindler, Caleb Johnson, Billy Schrauth, Aamil Wagner and maybe Ty Chan being in the lineup. There are some absolute studs coming onto campus this summer and that are RS FR on the roster now. Obviously injuries, medical retirements, and transfers can affect that but as a position group I think OLine will be just fine especially because Quinn recruited the position very well and Hiestand will coach them up well!

Maybe depth that is ready to play right now is an issue. But this class won't help with that either. We could sign 10 OL in the '23 class and it does nothing to fix that problem. What we need is for HH to coach up the 9 from the last two cycles. Another 5 puts us at 14 over 3. Seems like overkill to me. Even if you back out Tanona, that's 13.

It's all going to come down to how well these last two classes can be coached up and stay healthy.
Health is the biggest key and why I'm okay with five. Besides, who's to say one or two of them won't be ready to contribute right away? I'm always for the older more experienced player because they are typically stronger and have had more time to hone their skillset, but Fisher and Alt disrupted that thought process. It appears (eyeball test) more of these freshmen are better prepared when they get on campus than they use to be.

Siereveld looks like he won’t be part of ND’s class.
All the picks this morning coming in for him to OSU, including Loy’s.

Seirveld felt the heat and was left with OSU my gut says. Pendelton, Absher, Jags, and if Freeling says no, hello Paige
Driskell said he was told that the staff would take 4 more if they were the right 4, which he said included Siereveld.

A couple pods ago he said there are 7 OL they are actively recruiting. They would take the right 5 there. I think he was referring to the Mass OL and Paige as 6 and 7

I’m ok with this. I think 4 is the right number and feel really good, we’ll get 4 good ones.

"Classically" the average OLine recruitment should be 4 per year. 16 over four years. OLine stay for a fifth a lot, but they also get injured and drop off the squad a lot. Nowadays the perpetual second teamers will transfer a lot. I'm for stacking the Big Boys on both sides of the ball unless CoachF thinks we'll suddenly become a portal harvesting machine (which I don't see --- although OLinemen are intelligent enough to handle ND academics.)

By the Way this guy was/is a good Basketball player praised for having good feet. Who says he is not Tackle material if Coach H wants him there?

If I had to guess I don’t think this will be one we know before the announcement
Didn’t expect the CBS Sports/247 CB telegraph here.

Somewhat disappointed. Big rangy guys with Basketball feet are usually a really good gamble. OSU obviously thought so too.

Why is his profile changed to OSU verbal if he isn’t announcing till 3:15? Was something leaked?

Whoops, that's my bad. I thought the announcement was 10:15am, and thought Ryan's 'OSU' post was from a live stream announcement or something.

As I figured, sometimes a Buckeye kid is just a Buckeye kid:

“It really helps being the Ohio guy and going up there and everyone knows you’re from Ohio and you have a shot at playing at Ohio State, and now it’s coming true.”
