Even though Bowen and Keeley are committed, you have to treat them like BPA’s. They’ll have spots no matter what and it’s just 2 players. Take an extra S and an extra DE, if they want in, we’ll be able to find spots for 2 BPA’s at the end of every cycle. Now, you can’t do that with every position but we won’t need too. Plenty of positions will get worked out earlier than that.
True that. We have to decide we either want elite players and will have to recruit them hard right up until signing day and let the chips fall where they may, or go back to recruiting RKGs.

Seems like he got his spot reserved and is now shopping for the highest bidder.

It’s ironic Bowen was the one I believe who would have committed even earlier than he did but was worried about the distance. One interview he did stuck with me as most telling, he basically said OU/ND was 50/50 and then Riley left and Freeman stayed and he picked ND. I think given visiting OU weeks later he may have felt a bit scorned/emotional maybe when he chose ND. Comfort with Venables and the new staff + local pressures seem to our battle.

What has always stumped me is how colleges like Bama and OSU can recruit multiple great players at the same position and they stick! I mean, the "you come here for the competition" just cant hold that much weight over what other schools have to offer. When a team like Bama has 3 elite DEs commit the same class behind 2 5 stars the year before, it makes you wonder how they convince them to come. I sure 5 stars think they are the best to ever play the position and all but you would think at least SOME of them have more than 2 brain cells and can figure it out! And it isnt like OSU is winning NCs left and right. I can almost see it with Bama with their run of NCs but not OSU who has won one NC in twenty years. Yes that is more than ND has won but you dont see ND stacking 5 stars at the same position year in, year out. Oftentimes multiple at the same position.

You really think OSU and ND have had comparable success the last 30 years? Not even close, man

Not saying it is. Just saying OSU isnt boasting a string of NCs. Yet they stack up 5 stars just like Bama.

Because their track records of getting guys drafted high in the NFL Draft is worth its weight in gold. Players look to that as the biggest reason to come, and considering the competitive ego of an elite athlete, I don't think that they believe that they will end up buried on the depth chart for long, if at all.

As great of an institution that Notre Dame is, and as charismatic a coach and salesman that Freeman is, until the school shows that they are consistently developing guys into first and second round picks, they will have an additional boulder in the uphill climb for getting and retaining commits from the elite players.

Don't agree with that at all. We are consistently developing guys to their professional ceilings. ND is basically tied for 4th in active NFL players behind only Bama, OSU and LSU. Outside of OL, we just haven't been actively fighting for elite QB, WR and DB recruits, which was Kelly's choice to raise our floor while lowering our ceiling.

You guys act like Notre Dame has the power here. They don't. If Bowen and Keeley want to take visits they will because Notre Dame wants them badly.

Also, Ohio State, Bama, UGA all have de-commitments. More than Notre Dame with exception of the 22 class. AGain, you act like Notre Dame is the only team dealing with this stuff.

I asked this in another thread, and truly don't know because I don't follow other teams.

How many of Bama, OSU, UGA committed recruits are visiting other schools?

People keep saying this is normal, but I've seen no proof.

I'm sure it happens but am genuinely interested in how frequent.

Judging from last year's class, I feel like Bama and UGA guys had recruits visit elsewhere but Ohio State didn't. I truthfully think that it is more normal in the spring but if a a recruit OVs in the Fall, my concern would increase

Reality of big boy recruiting. Landing elite players early means that everyone and their mother will try to flip them. Only thing we can do is get used to it and hope they stick.

True but when you’re fighting Oklahoma and A&M for a kid from Texas it’s an uphill battle.

And it really doesn't matter if he signs with ND. This kind of thing happens all the time when programs land elite out of state recruits.

You are exactly right but people need to understand that we are going to have flips. And they are going to be better players than we are used too. I still think that we will bring more overall better talent then we are used too.

Keon I get because he did receive overwhelming more interest after his early commitment and had a position coach change.

Peyton honestly should have just never committed haha. I am of the stance he made a rash decision when Riley left. It’s been 50/50 or 60/40 ND basically for months besides a few week period, when he made his commitment.

Rhett I don’t know what’s going on there. That one feels TBD.

This fucking guy EJ. Ignore the Michigan stuff it’s useless. The only takeaway:

“I feel really good about Notre Dame. That’s where I thought my home was. I took that judgment quick and said this is where I want to go. There are still schools that are pushing. I’m going to give them a shot because nothing is final until I sign those papers. As of right now, I am still committed to Notre Dame.”

For a dollar, you really get to see the delusion of Michigan fans. They think they're gonna flip him and Keeley. I'd be pretty shocked if either even take a visit going forward to UM.

20 years from now EJs gonna still be typing away, remember Amorion Walker? Michigan working on flipping another ND commit
The problem is the Michigan fans don’t hold him accountable. He will list 4-5 ND commits every year that he says UM will flip. Out of 20 of his names, Michigan has flipped one, a 3 Star. And nobody on the Michigan site called him on it.

He only does it to ND too. He has told people he always needs an enemy to go after and it’s ND now. He literally makes things up to try to get fans riled up. Stu was too much of a coward to say anything about it & On3 wants him to to drive subscriptions.

Every cycle he hitches to a player, JJ McCarthey, Will Johnson, etc., and becomes their friend and he reads their text messages from other recruits. That’s where he gets his info. When he doesn’t have a contact he has literally no info & just writes BS articles. He hangs around Dante Moore this year but since he’s not a UM commit he has no info for EJ, that’s why EJ just does random Dante updates three times a week. Then tells his board UM is working to flip Keeley & Bowen, neither of which will go to UM. He’s desperate now.

He and his reports are garbage.

“In terms of any potential official visits, Bowen said he needed to talk to Freeman first.

“If he says no, he says no. You know?” Bowen said. Asked if that means he’s locked into the Irish if Freeman doesn’t give his blessing on official visits, Bowen simply said: “Yeah.”

I think the link is free. Some encouraging. Some not. Some status quo quotes.

Honestly **** Lincoln Riley for leaving OU and setting off Lebby to OU otherwise it’d cause a lot less headache if we had Jackson Arnold right now, on multiple fronts haha.
