Color me naive but can someone explain to me how him moving his visit up is "big news" for the Irish like Singer is insinuating?

Can't speak for Singer but the 17th was a one day visit. According to everyone's buddy Coach D, Tate will be at ND for multiple days now. Fair to assume this is why the change is good.

Any chance he commits tomorrow in person to Freeman? I mean with Moore likely heading to ND maybe he already knows and is pulling the trigger?

Sure, it's possible but it's not expected by anyone. In ISD's update yesterday or today I forget, they said OSU has a slight lead.

Because OSU doesn’t have a huge lead.
Maybe, maybe not.

But until ND proves otherwise, Hartline is the king of WR recruiting and my money would be on Hartline to ultimately prevail. It's like betting on Alabama and Saban. Does he win every game? No. But he wins so many that it's an upset when he doesn't. Same with Hartline. It will be an upset if/when Tate goes elsewhere, ND or otherwise. But the bet should still be pointed to him.

My read on the situation is that he is trying to leverage interest in ND into a larger NIL package from OSU. That's a cynical take, but I think it's weird that so many insiders quietly believe that Ohio State leads. That usually means that he is telling their coaches something.

The flip side of that is that maybe Ohio State isn't stepping up with the kind of money he expected and that's why he's open to ND, and ND is ultimately going to pull ahead and win this race.

I know that boosters are stepping up for players, but the administration (and most lawyers!) are convinced that Texas A&M and Tennessee "collective" deals for recruits are absolutely against the rules no matter how carefully their lawyers write the contracts. Many schools aren't fucking with that stuff right now because they expect it to implode in ~2 years.

Brian Hartline + Tate's "dream school". Hard combo to beat.

Singer just said he doesn’t think Tate ends up at ND.
To a person, not a single recruiting reporter I've talked with or texted with thinks Tate is coming to ND. They all think that Ohio State is his intention, and me reading between the lines is that he is trying to get someone to step up with $$$. I don't think that ND is playing the "collective" game, so unless they're able to put together some package + promise beyond anything I've heard of to date I think it's just tactics to drive up his value... no different than how "multiple offers" for a house causes its value to go up.

ND is trying to pitch NIL?
I mean, UT is giving $8mil to Nico, I'm sure they'd be paying Carnell a pretty penny lol

The fact he is bringing his mom & an entourage of friends (reportedly), and moved it forward so he would be the only recruit there on a day with no practice, makes me think he is just showing them a good time & what he could have if he wanted. He isn’t going to ND & is just using this for his own benefit.

There was a lot of talk about a package deal with Moore (although those packages rarely happen)...is OSU a legit threat for Moore?

I don’t think I could be anymore indifferent about this kids recruitment now. Whichever school he chooses the other will feel trolled with the a,out of stuff he posts about each. Gobbles up the attention and even if he does choose ND I just feel like he’ll be a pain in the ass... hope we get him though 🤣

I think Tate in choosing OSU has a non-NIL business decision that has held him up. The pitch, and the likely truth, is he’ll likely catch a ton of balls and be a 1st round pick if he goes to OSU.

But they also told that to Kaleb Brown, Kyion Graves, Kojo Antwi and Caleb Burton last year. They’ll tell it to 3-4 of the top kids in 2024. And they are telling it to Brandon Innis, Johntay Cook, Jalen Hale and have guys like Kasper and others warm if they need. OSU I don’t think is really overwhelming him with basic old fashioned recruiting love like ND or Tennessee are. Keep in mind the Alabama offer is new. Riley isn’t/wasn’t too hard after him at USC/OU either. OSU is the easy business decision from a NFL perspective, but I also think he has been open to someone convincing him why they are not (easier said then done).

To clarify, he likely lands on OSU. But I think the push from fall to spring (if OSU locks him up) was because he did genuinely welcome someone to change his mind.

I find it odd that all of a sudden ND is heavily leading(allegedly) for Dante and now Tate is all OSU. Just seems odd to me. They said they are great friends and want to play together but just makes you wonder

And I know package deals rarely ever happen but this one seemed pretty genuine

I don’t think you can say the package deal thing was always a real thing since ND is basically the only mutual suitor haha. I think it was/is more NDs pitch to both.

Read the first three pages. We had it all figured out by last June.

Hell, I even called for Freeman to be HC and to hire Hartline as his OC.
