I wonder if there's some attempted negative recruiting going on vis-a-vis Freeman being a first-time HC before the bowl game + no line coach, as if Freeman's not going to bring in someone light's out. Because after the bowl game none of that's going to work.

Probably more along the lines of .... ND has got Alt and Fisher penciled in at the tackle spots for the next 3 years. You might get to play when you are a Senior.

Yeah, was thinking about that the other day too. These are some of the best salesmen out there and it's coming down to the wire.

I'm not as high on Chan as the rest of the world is and I don't know where he plays in college. The camp snippets I saw did not look like a no brainer OT and he's not as long as reported. I have a feeling he's more of a Q body type than a Ronnie Stanley.

Anyways, if Schrauth's on board I don't any spot open until 2024. That's powerful mojo for PSU to use in recruiting.

PSU has an OL coach who is a good recruiter and Franklin is tenacious. Don’t know how much or how little they are doing with NIL money. But I know from the Landon Tengwall recruitment that he just flat out liked their OL coach and Franklin a lot better than Quinn and Kelly.

With all that being said — how people cannot see through Franklin is just comical. He is basically loathed by his own fan base. Can’t beat anyone with a pulse. Poorly coached teams top to bottom. But ND needs to figure out what they’re doing with their OL coach sooner rather than later.

Chan is a 5-star in my book and they need to lock him down. Freak athletic traits and very underrated.

Lax this is a perfect assessment. Thanks

PSUs weakest position group on the team is OL, and has been for two years now, at least. Rees should offer to watch the PSU/ILL OT game together. Clifford got pummeled his entire career

I think this season should provide some reassurance for guys who see a long path to playing time. There are often injuries that allow you to be the next Joe Alt or Aaron Banks

His future is at guard, and I see him as a first round pick there. I’m not one to overhype but I really think that he has special physical traits and the sky is the limit for him. Moves incredibly well and is strong as an ox.

We could negative recruit them vis-a-vis Franklin being a long time head coach who still sucks. I mean this clown has done absolutely nothing and still gets a player like Singleton.

Chris (ISD) reporting BC might be our biggest threat. Staff really trying to get him to come to ND this weekend and coaches are visiting him tonight.

If true, I feel a lot better competing against BC even if they are the local team, than PSU. I get the counterpoints to that, but I just feel better in general.

Sure we could, no doubt. But this time of year coaches will say anything when it comes down to a Cadillac car, a set of steak knives, and their jobs.

It takes brass balls to sell football scholarships.

So this might be pre-homesickness or it's the additions of Billy and Amil?

Can’t say I’ve looked at many OL classes but this one has to be too 5, right?

For 2022? Number one - with o-line especially I’ll take 5 four stars (including 4 top 200 guys) over a 2-3 OL class with a slightly higher average rating. Also think some of these guys like Schrauth and Craig are underrated.

I remember one of the 247 guys had an article out there comparing 2022 O-line classes, and with just one of Billy or Wagner it was a top 5 O-line class. With both I think it’s an easy #1.

Yeah from 247 rankings with Schrauth on board we have 4 of the top 30 OL, while no one else has more than 2 so far

I think this class really locks down the interior of the online for some time. Def need to hit some true tackles this next cycle.

Kickass class of linemen for so many reasons. Ranking wise as noted above, where/how we won these individual recruitments, coaching change, seasons early performance.

OL-U indeed.

The two classes combined over the past 2 years is incredible. How many true tackles do you think we need? It sounds like you don't envision any of our guys this year being true tackles? I think Wagner and Chan can still be tackles, even if they are 6'5. This is college where a sound player can play almost any position. Patterson, Martin, etc.

Behind Fisher and Alt, who each could have 3 more years remaining. We also have Caleb Johnson (hopefully he sticks around, keeps the wear n tear down and can move into his NFL spot after Fisher and Alt move on). And we have Tosh and Carmody waiting for their opportunities.

The future of the OL is incredibly bright...bright enough that I'd expect some transfers at some point.

I certainly agree the future is bright. And yes, I dont know that I see any in this class as true Tackles. Chan is probably closest, IMO.

4 tackles isnt much (Fisher, Alt, Tosh, Carmody) and if this year has shown its nice to have high quality options.

It’s only 1v1’s but he has looked overwhelmed
and has flat out been abused on several reps against the more talented d-lineman at UA AA practice. Lots of work on technique and a move inside will be needed

The comments I read also stated he didn’t play much tackle in high school and his competition was also weak but he has all the physical tools to excel at the next level with the aforementioned development.

Pretty much this. Has off the charts athletic traits and could be a top tier guard. Does not project well at tackle.

Imagine going from New England competition / camps to facing Walter Nolen, Travis Shaw, Gabriel Brownlow-Dindy, and Shemar Stewart all in a row. Sounds like a nightmare.
