The data from South Africa indicates that Omicron may only be like a ~2 month event but the problem -- from a bowl and CFP standpoint -- is that what you're talking about is a bunch of players going through public transit hubs to get home for Christmas in what is presumably going to be the leading leg of the US peak. There are going to be virtually guaranteed outbreaks right before the bowl games... and while the players will almost all be healthy enough to play, I'm guessing that protocols won't let them. Omicron is not only orders of magnitude more contagious than the original strain of COVID but it almost entirely evades vaccines with regard to "testing positive."

Yeah, even Austria & Germany are already on the downswing of their outbreaks. So many people in NYC have gotten it over the past 10 days that I have a hard time believing it doesn't peak here within the next few weeks. Probably will spread slower in other parts of the country tho that are less dense.

Mizzou is a touchdown dog to a service academy. S! E! C! How can that be right?

I'm betting Army.

Does anyone know the NCAA testing protocol and return to play restrictions? Are they still as crazy as last year?

ND players are traveling home Christmas which basically means guaranteed COVID.

Throwing this out there, but maybe MF and Jack should pivot and keep the kids on campus in a semi-bubble...

0-2 after the superior SEC faces the likes of UCF and Army in bowl games. Tack on the cowardliness of Texas A&M for opting not to delay their game but just quit and we are seeing the cream of the conferences exert their dominance over college football. What a complete joke!

The SEC most always has one of the top 2 teams in the country, Alabama being the most common of them. Then Florida, Georgia, Auburn, LSU, all have taken their turns at times. But the idea they are dominate top to bottom as a conference is bogus, and has been the past 15 years. Are they they best conference? Usually. But not by the margin college football fan culture on the whole seems to assume they are. They are typically top heavy with 1 or 2 elite teams.

better wait for the rest of the games before dancing on the SEC's grave. They're probably going to win most of their games.

Idk, I’m not as apt to hammer A&M over this. If what was reported is accurate and they’re down to 38 scholarship players, you’re talking twice the roster is in some sort of COVID protocol and unable to practice or condition, let alone play. You’re looking to likely push the Gator Bowl back close to the national title game, if not after. Nobody wants that.

The SEC has tested positive for losing bowl games to a service academy and G5 Florida school.

Screw those guys. And Season's Greetings.

Anyone else can't believe there was only one game scheduled for today?

Military and Fenway Bowls cancelled. Gird your loins.

Case numbers are out of control and I have a hard time believing that players flying back to ND over the next couple days aren’t going to get it. Real question is what kind of testing protocol they have for asymptomatic players.

They should do an entry test like they did when they first came back to campus when this all started.

With the way numbers are going, if they test players without symptoms I’ll be shocked if this game gets played.

Hell there’s rumor here our schools are going back virtually after the new year. Just proves all these shots and boosters are all for nothing. Not making this the COVID thread. So that’s all I’ll say.

LOL at stating a grossly ignorant opinion and then the ol' please don't respond and make a scene...

Vaccinations are to save lives. Boosters are to save lives. Full stop. Get the shot, don't be a statistic.

ISD reporting that the protocol is that ONLY players with symptoms will be tested.

Reading the guidance, it appears that non-vaccinated players will be tested within 72 hours of the game. I would infer that vaccinated players with no symptoms will not be tested.

"The director of athletics and the institution's chief medical officer must certify that each person with access to the playing field on game day has tested negative for COVID-19 within 72 hours of the kickoff or has been fully vaccinated."

Remember when guys on roids would have clean players pee for them? How long before asymptomatic positive players have healthy people nasal swab for them?

If this is the case, it would be best to test every player as soon as they return to campus to see what player adjustments they need to make.
