Just to put a bow on this I'm going to reiterate what I said a month or so ago -- there is a near 0% chance that someone who acts how he does is going be successful at Notre Dame. The issue is with recruiting someone like CJ in the first place, not that ND ultimately lost his commitment.

Once he more or less publicly shit on Angeli I figure it was over. He's a 4 star caliber guy, but definitely not a borderline 5 star.

Where's the contingency Del???

Should break him a few times on the field over the next couple of years as a fine how do you do

I really can't wait to see this defense go up against him. I hope we get a few shots on him that leave him doubled over. I'm not talking about dirty play, just players staying within the rules of the game and doling out punishment.

Can't blame Del for this one IMO. Feels like he was always going to end up at SC.

You can definitely blame him for the current state of the WR room, and for the fact that we seemingly don't have any backup options in place even though this has been telegraphed for a while now.

How Del and Rees handled this recruiting cycle at WR is so unbelievably frustrating for so many reasons that I don’t even know where to start.

That’s my point. I can 100% blame Del for putting his eggs into this basket and then not keeping any options open when the inevitable happened.

This WR class with the situation facing their depth chart should be a fireable offense and I hope it is.

This is why Del will be holding a stop sign in front of a construction site this time next year as opposed to being employed by ND.

This is a loss, especially if ND losses Walker. Does ND keep recruiting him or do we let him go?

I hope Angeli gets the last laugh on this one.

Del needs to GTFO.

I think the heavy coaching staff blame here compared to the Nwankpa recruitment is….odd. Sure putting all eggs in one basket and then losing is not ideal but just recruiting safe kids is also how we consistently lose in the Playoffs.

Hit the portal. Do better in 2023. Show goes on but you gotta keep swinging.

Del doesn't understand "fit." He actually does a decent job of landing highly rated guys, but he is the opposite of Elston in terms of understanding fit. Every guy Elston gets is a hard worker and they rarely bust.

Del signs "five star" guys like Jordan Johnson. The two good players he landed last year -- Styles and Colzie -- both might have a foot out of the door because neither really likes him. He goes after guys from the deep south and west coast for the vast majority of his players. It's ok to take a flier on a couple players from those areas. But you can't be oblivious to what makes someone a fit or likely to stick.

Going to need to hit the portal for at least one and probably two WRs.

I agree with this but I think taking only 3 receivers given the roster situation next year is ludicrous. Should've tried for 4-5.

You think they’re transfer candidates?

That’s where the WRs are in larger %s than lineman.

His past classes are definitely hurting his current results. That’s the odd issue is I think he 100% has improved and “gets it” more but the past classes is such a big hole

I would be shocked if Styles and Colzie decided to transfer. Especially with an increased role for both of them next year. Jordan Johnson is a 5* bust, UCF is finding that out.

Isn't that like 99% of his coaching career too. He may just not have any feel for recruiting outside of that region. Not saying that it's acceptable.

Have we heard for sure if he's gone/back?

Yes he’s 50 and has had 1 job outside the West Coast before us. 100% a well what do you want me to do?

In 2022 Kaleb Brown just flat out didn’t like ND and Tyler Morris tore his ACL the second we got traction. Overall Del has some pros, some cons of his own doing and some cons out of his control. The cons outweigh the pros enough to move on but I don’t think to the degree he gets a rep for. I think he’s in a TBD pattern in part because was trying to get this over the finish line so we’ll see

Del is damned because at multiple points paid sites attributed that it was consistently his policy and choice to take no more than three a class. For last two cycles we clearly needed to over-recruit to back fill losses/misses and yet like a damn fuckwad that number three seemed carved in stone. You take some hard stand and get hoisted by it multiple cycles in a role then there is no excuse and deserve a swift kick in the nutz

An old Irish blessing:

May those who love us, love us;
And for those who don't love us,
May God turn their hearts;
And if He doesn't turn their hearts,
May He turn their ankles,
So we will know them by their limping
.

CJ did us dirty. The Irish have long memories though. See you on the field, kid.

On ND commitment (in November):
“I’m pretty steadfast on that,” he added. “And I’m pretty happy. The situation there is looking good. Hopefully, we can maybe get a quarterback committed, some transfers, and you know, make it solidified. … I’m pretty locked in there. You know, being that I’m a few months since I stepped foot on campus, I am pretty locked in."

Just remember that this is the kid we are losing.

Was hoping Freeman could lock this one up and Del could have another year working with Tommy, Dre Brown under MF da Closer... with Bayou Brian out of the picture. I believe BK was much of the problem when it came to how many prospects were in each coach's funnel. Everyone on O outside of TE has struggled with filling their funnels with the proper # of prospects. It's an organizational problem.

I'm confident MF will fix this.

If Del's gone, give Bailey the job assuming not even MF can close his old roommate, Hartline.

This is a high school senior. He hasn't played a snap of college ball. He thinks he knows what a program that has won 10+ games 5 years in a row needs for him to be successful there. Definition of entitlement. I hope he enjoys winning 6 games a year.

I’m hoping there has been some behind the scenes work going on with some other WRs and possibly nothing has leaked out (or the media is keeping it under wraps). I realize that this thought process may be blind optimism but it seems I read some buzz that there might be some positive surprises on signing day. I guess we’ll see soon enough. Will be interesting to watch what happens with Walker since this could push him closer to playing time (I also think he has a higher ceiling than CJ Williams).

Unfortunately I think the Irish Illustrated pod confirmed our fears today. They were asked a question similar to this and basically confirmed there’s no contingency/it’s too late in the process to flip. Looks like they’ll probably wait and see who didn’t sign during the early period and go hunting.
