True, but I think (perhaps like Freeman right now), those guys have to consider the money they can make and the advancement of their careers versus the amount of shit they sometimes have to eat from their bosses.

Yeah and in total fairness I'm positive BK wasn't going against some widely held custom by doing stuff like that at the time... sounds about right for the era.

SIIAP...Any truth to the reports that Freeman is interviewing for the Duke HC position?

Losing Rees would hurt in recruiting short term, but Longo would be epic with Freeman!

It strikes me as unlikley that Freeman would open up to Fortuna like that. It's probably somebody whose been with ND a little longer (and isn't particularly close to Kelly) like Alexander, Taylor, or Mickens.

Really? I'd think the opposite. Freeman uprooted his life less than a year ago, left his mentor and spurned big money at LSU to work under Kelly. And in the span of 11 months, after doing so much to impact the recruiting effort, he peaces out on him?

To me, it seems like Freeman would be the most likely coach to react in such a way to this news.

So, btw an interesting point brought up by Colin Cowherd is the fact of recruiting with LSU. LSU's recruiting class rankings in

2019: 5th
2020: 4th
2021: 3rd
2022: TBD but he's already got 7 4*+ recruits in the class and I suspect he'll do really well in the coming weeks picking up dudes

LSU was ranked 5th in recruited team talent by 247Sports and I'm pretty sure they'll at minimum stay in the top 5 or move up with these classes. Ed Orgeron had a loaded roster and Brian Kelly is a better coach than Ed Orgeron. He's won 10 games 5 years in a row and has never had even as close to this level of talent at ND in that time. I imagine he'll do well with the resources of LSU and recruiting prowess of that school. I sure hope it doesn't work but I think he'll do well.

He'll need that talent as his Saturdays just got a whole lot tougher. I don't think ND is 11-1 had they played LSU's schedule. Def not 11-1, just looked... 7-5 best case 8-4.

The first game LSU burns the opening drive of the first and third quarters because Kelly cant get the players hyped with his 'just another day at work. do your job kid schtick (who has probably never had a job before)', Im gonna be dealing told-you-so's on Twitter. 2 for 1 special.

^ Im in full hater mode. Its a coping mechanism.

Lol, no doubt! Kelly will be on the hot seat in year two if he doesn’t up his game. Different ball game down here.

On him leaving, what’s taken so long? Ha, jk, I’m glad he got ND this far, even though it’s been frustrating as hell too many times. I love our players he’s helped to recruit, but I’m cautiously ecstatic he’s gone! Time for Jack to not Jack things up. Gotta get ahead of the situation and make good decisions. Time is of the essence.

Living in GA Bulldog country... All my friends love the hire, they think LSU messed up by not bringing in Aranda. Kelly gets slaughtered in big games... Ya, he beat OU in 2012 and a Clemson with a scrub QB (who we made look like Tom Brady) other than that... Ya... He's in trouble, the SEC is going to eat his ass up.

Guy can coach and he’s a winner. If he gets a good staff in place they will be fine and the fans will come around. He’s always been a kinda slimy asshole. I think the SEC is more of his natural environment than ND. Dude was trying to leave after year 3.

He gets slaughtered when teams have way more talent than him. Those days are over.

He's a winner for sure, but he's never coached in a big conference ever. He did a great job at ND, but some stars aligned for him as well. He didn't beat good USC teams, or Michigan teams... He basically won the games he was supposed too. He's 3-8 against the top ten with most losses coming by 14+ points..

I kind of did actually... I never loved BK the way some respected posters like LAX or Whiskey seemed to but I never really voiced it fully here out of respect for them and others... not that I'm pulling some 'told you so' because I never fully spoke up on a lot of stuff that made me dimmer on BK than most but yeah, right from the start... then of course just weeks after I finally got all in he bounces... lol

For me it's a scenario where you can respect the guy's work but not be a big fan of him personally.

BK is one of the best in college football but I wouldn't wanna hang at his lake house or play golf with him.

What’s a big conference? Just the SEC? He’s much better than Les Miles or Orgeron.

This could be sour grapes, so take it for what it's worth. I understand his win percentages there but he did it in division 2 and at a mid-major in Cincinnati. Would he really done if Notre Dame accept it murdered in big games. He didn't win the Orange Bowl, never won a Fiesta Bowl, I spent $5,000 to go to the national championship game and his team didn't even show up. Yes he has won a lot of games over the last five years, again games he was supposed to win.

SEC, ACC Pac-12, Big 12 BIG 10.... he went from Grand Valley State to Central Michigan to Cincinnati to Notre Dame and he'd be out of a job if Pete Carroll was still at USC when he came to Notre Dame. That's all I'm saying, LSU fans have a right to be a little bit nervous. His record appears to be a house of cards when you really start looking at it.... I'm using voice text so excuse errors.

Has anyone else noticed that the 'Cant win a big game' label is sticking to Kelly more than Notre Dame. Great chance to wipe that off the board as a negative impression of the program.

Integrity matters, especially when you’re educating young people who will learn from your example (for better or for worse). If sports are ultimately all about business and money, then have the decency to market yourself as unscrupulous. Don’t twist words in the wind about representing yourself in a way that strives to be different. Otherwise, you’re not a villain when your true colors come out, you’re just a coward. And that’s a damn shame.

Like he'd let you play golf with him. You'd have to carry his clubs.

They look… disinterested? Unimpressed? Maybe I’m just reading too much into it

Put yourself in their shoes for a moment.

1) You were recruited by coaches lead by Coach O, who brings MILFS around practice and can't fill up his car with gas without hitting on some woman.
2) You have been force fed your entire life that SEC football is on another level.
3) You hired a guy that a) has never stepped foot in SEC country as a coach and comes from a school that is assumed to be one of the most pretentious universities in the country by those who are in region b) looks like he just got home from a delicious champagne brunch at the local country club.

I am not sure BK could be farther from Coach O at this point.

He's going to have his best qb since forever on day 1... that's already 90% of the battle

Thank you to guys like Kyren and Foskey and so many others for having class and exhibiting strength and devotion to ND. They deserve so much better than to be lead by classless, greedy adults.

We’re like 28-3 against the ACC the last 5 years including running the table last year when we were in a conference.

Here’s what great college coaches do. Amass top 5 talent, beat all the teams they’re “supposed to” and then win half the games against equal talent. Saban hasn’t played a team with a significant talent advantage since 2007. Kirby Smart has never. Kelly may never at LSU depending on how his recruiting goes.
