Would be our luck that we had the mythical "great DC that has no aspirations to become an HC" and he got poached after one year.

I think if he was that kind of guy he wouldn’t make the move to A&M.

I will bet both Elko and Grinch are HCs next season. My fear is that there is so much turnover this offseason that Freeman will be as well.

Has time run out at Stanford for David Shaw? or is he immune to the scrutiny that most coaches would receive for the dismal state? Looks like there is going to be a long list of coaching opportunities at big time programs. Is it time for Elko to test the market?

He went 4-8 in 2019 and it was his first losing season there. Being an alum in a low expectation job, this would seem to me like a jump to conclusions firing. How dismal is it really? Even when they were good a few years ago they weren't drawing spectators. I realize that in this profession he'd certainly be in line to get canned if he were at just about any other school, but it seems like Shaw and Fitzgerald are kind of different because of WHERE they coach. If Lea can get some some level of consistent respectability, he could be in the same boat, but I think his job is harder than Stanford and Northwestern.

I feel like last season reset things a little bit and there seems to be some parity? Only reason why I can attempt to explain the weekly upsets and multiple teams now with 2-4 losses on the season. You never seem to know who shows up in form and who shows up to have an off weekend.

I always liked Shaw and hope they keep him.

Elko has done an amazing job in Aggieland. I have to think people will be looking for him as the talent pool doesn't seem huge and some vacancies are out there.

I think Shaw would do good at USC. He can recruit ok. He always gets some big time talent. USC recruits itself. He in the coaching world it everything all the othe USC coaches aren't. He would bring the toughness back. Would probably be bad for us but for USC it would be good. Again JMO.

It's also hard to evaluate Shaw because Stanford seems to have clamped down on some roster freedoms the football team used to enjoy. The oversigning and guaranteed fifth years are things of the past.

If any DC who has never been an HC could get that call, I think it's him. TCU wants Dykes. Dykes has a very good extension offer from SMU. He needs to decide. Personally, if I'm TCU, I look at Napier and Chadwell.

Elko knows how to work for schools that have academic standards. It's a good fit I think.

With his penchant for running the ball, we'd probably see the return of Student Body Left and Student Body Right.

The key to more hiring is the timetable SMU has given Dykes for making up his mind.

They have really nothing to offer, didn’t in the 60s, but it’s truly glaring now. It’s a program that is well on its way to permanent obscurity, and rightly so, if we’re being frank. They will never matter on the National level again, except for the one off big ten championship game appearance once every 20 years. They are just red northwestern, now.

Nebraska is currently 23rd in the 247 talent composite, more or less equal with #21 Wisconsin. They should be further ahead than where they currently are if Frost is a good coach. Honestly think it may be too late to right the ship as his 2022 class is just flat out bad right now and he'll be working in a new QB next year.

This is the biggest problem. The program wasn’t left in as dire straits as people made it out to be, and Frost had his best season coming off Riley’s worst season. He’s recruited okay, definitely good enough to compete in the West, but it’s obvious it’s not the players. The offensive scheme sucks and when you’re hired on to run a high-scoring offense, and you can’t clip more than 30 points consistently, it’s a fireable offense.

And if sucking on offense wasn’t enough to get him fired, their ‘22 class being ranked 71st absolutely should be

I'm sure the same was said about ND during the glory years of Davies, ty and Charlie. I really don't know if Nebraska will ever be back but they offer some history and one of the best fan bases in all of sports. That's basically what bama had to offer before Saban took over. I get that bama has recruiting advantages, but the big 10 West doesn't have any dominant national programs and it was less than a decade ago that Pelini averaged nearly 10 wins a year in Lincoln.

I think it's far from hopeless for them but I thought Frost would turn them around so what the hell do I know.

Scott Frost’s restructured contract will drop his salary from $5 million to $4 million, and the buyout if he’s fired next year drops from $15 million to $7.5 million.

They also fire everyone on the offensive staff minus the TE coach.

I'm not a Husker fan, but they do have a history of some elite football. Devaney didn't pull a rabbit out of his hat. He built a program. You don't go 101-20 and win two NC's by getting lucky. Osborne took over and kept them rolling going 255-49 and winning several NC's. Even Solich did pretty good. Whether they become relevant again, I don't know, but you can't dismiss their history. Name me one program that hasn't went through what they have.
