The reports of the Notre Dame's defensive demise have been greatly exaggerated.

Freeman is familiar with Navy, and will have a plan in place to stop the frustrating triple option. The tackling will be sound by virtue of Navy's ball carriers not having forcefields around their lower body like Sam Howell seemed to have. We might even see some young faces help out that we haven't seen much of yet since we're getting to the 'four game redshirt' time where reinforcements can help out without burning eligibility. Fresh bodies and legs can help when you're taking cut blocks on every snap.

On the flip side, I think ND's offensive skill players are going to give Navy fits, the same way they did in '19. Tommy will scheme to get any of the WR's matched up against some poor schmuck playing LB for Navy, and that guy will get toasted, and then a different guy will get toasted on the next drive... we just need Styles to catch the deep ball when it happens.

I think he will catch the deep ball (or maybe even two), and I think ND rolls, 45-14.

I've got the Irish covering, but I think it's going to be one of those frustrating Navy match ups we've come to know. I hope BK defers if we win the toss, giving us a chance to score two possessions in a row and get a nice 2-3 score cushion in the 3rd.

Navy will score a couple of times in the first half, making us all a little nervous with a 21-17 lead but ND will tighten the screws at halftime, play assignment sound football, and pull away.

ND 45 - Navy 24

Navy's up tempo, no huddle offense puts a lot of points on the board quickly, mostly through the air... ND's mobility at QB extends a number of 10 play drives and keeps our boys in the game but ultimately the goats git em.... by 60.

I am actually of the opposite opinion. I hope ND takes the opening kickoff. Scoring early and often on Navy gets them out of their gameplan. If you give them the ball first and they have a long scoring drive that kills 9+ minutes, they are dictating the game. Force Navy to play quicker and riskier.

I watched them against Cincy. I think their QB will be able to get rattled pretty easily as he never ran the option prior to Navy and has struggled with the right reads.

I voted 35+. Last time Freeman played Navy, it was a shutout. They've been playing better but they are still a bad football team. ND is due for a blowout.

That's fair, and that's more likely to happen than BK ever deferring haha, like DONTH8 said. I guess I'm in the mindset that youi stop Navy to start, score first, and double dip at halftime...that's obviously a lot to ask for, but would be the death knell.

10 Drives in 2019
12 Drives in 2018
7 Drives in 2017
6 Drives in 2016 (ouch)
11 Drives in 2015
11 Drives in 2014

I excluded end of game drives where they're just kneeling with a minute or two left. The key sure seems to be stopping the option and getting yourself more opportunities to score. If they can prevent Navy from sustaining drives (and they've struggled overall this year), then this should be a comfortable win. However, I don't think ND covers the 21 points, so I'm going with ND 41 Navy 24

I expect ND will try to get a lead and then keep the defense off the field given the wear and tear on the linebackers and safeties.

So while I think the Irish are perfectly capable of blowing out this Navy team I don't think they will try to do it. Instead, look for Diggs and C'Bo to see the field for their highest numbers of carries on the year.

I'm also hoping to see a decent chunk of snaps for Prince Kollie and some combination of Ajavon/Walters/Gee.

ND holds on and breaks up a Hail Mary to win by 7, in OT.

Hoping we can put this away relatively quickly. Three things I'd like to see:

1. Extended PT for Buchner
2. Actual carries for Audric Estime
3. Reps for Kollie, Kia, and Watts

ND gets up 3 scores at half and reserves get some solid second half reps.

Give me this, so I don't have to watch Navy's shitty ass style of play and also give me no injuries.

Watts seems like the perfect dude to get ready for a game like this, and not just for depth purposes. He's a great athlete, and everyone is resetting for the week to learn their responsibilities in defending the triple option anyway, so you *might* be able to put a guy like Watts out there is key situations where he can use his speed to beat the QB and pitch men to their spots.

It's different than prepping the usual 2-deep for a more standard offense, so maybe Freeman, Elston and O'Leary can get creative with personnel and sub packages. I don't know if you can do quite the same with Kollie, unless you've got him as the opposite outside contain guy... I just know the one spot you DON'T want to switch things too much is at ILB with their responsibilities in tracking the different options.

41-13 Irish. I think we are going to have 5 plays of 40+ yards. A lot of rushing yards. I will say over 300 yards on the ground.

This game remains as one of THE most frustrating games, in one of the most frustrating seasons, of my life as a sports fan, across any and all major sports.

That hopeless feeling as Navy just continued to grind out first downs and long drives against our shit defense was agonizing.

I think ND can be efficient with Tempo in this game, fairly easily. We start by leaning on the run game and RB screens, quick outs, and Mayer has a big day. That leads to eventually hitting on some big plays in the 2nd Qtr. ND takes a 24-10 lead into half.

Another TD in the 3rd while we Navy gets shut out gets a lot of 2nd and 3rd teamers action in the 4th Qtr. Navy gets a TD and FG against those guys while Buchner leads our offense on a couple successful drives of his own. 41-20.

I'd have to go back and watch the highlights of that one, but i'm pretty sure Kizer airmailed half his passes. Makes you wonder why the heck that dude left early.

Ball gets spread around and we have 5 different players with a TD. ND 49 Navy 14. Something to compare head to head in the same part of the season with Cincy.
