Joe Alt is going to be a starting tackle for us in within 2 years. He already has the frame, let him develop strength and technique and sky is the limit. I'm really excited to see what he becomes in the future.

I don't know. Barring the injury bug, it either happens next year or in '24. History says once Fisher & Baker claim the spots, they won't lose them until they leave.

I was imagining Fisher locking down a tackle position this fall then ceding it to Alt in '22 or '23 when Fisher moves inside to Guard. But you're right, if Fisher grows into the position and continues his current stratosphere trajectory, he's likely not moving outside of injury. Which means Alt's best chance is taking a spot from Baker, I guess we'll see how he looks throughout the fall.

I'm just enamored with Alt's numbers.

With all the talk about OL recruiting and Quinn's recent struggles, Alt is the forgotten man. What a find he was. Per 247, we signed 3 top 200 OL last cycle. Everyone just forgets who the 3rd is, lol. He finished the cycle at a .92 rating and #179 overall. That's pretty darn good.

Ahhhhh... Thank you for being brave enough to bring that up. Very possible that next year's best 5 overall OL's are Fisher, Rocco, Zeke, Tosh & Alt. For them to play, makes the most sense that Fish would move to OG. But if he starts at LT as a freshman, he's not coming off the money spot without a fight.

Worth noting that by the end of the 2021 cycle that 247 had him as a top 200 player, think we may be underrating him since his composite ranking was still so low.

I expect him to push for minutes/starting role in 22. I'm not underrating him at all! That is a big human being and paired with Tosh, Fisher and Spindler, could represent one of our largest OLs.

Just what I was afraid of... Fish, Tosh & Alt being in your best 5. Alt just couldn't stay skinny until '24, could he?

Per Pete Sampson (Shamrock Podcast)
Tommy Rees (guest) said that they expected Alt to come in as a project (strength wise).
Rees said Alt came in, not, as a project lol

His Twitter profile pic. Gives you an idea of how good that weight looks on him.

And he looks like a baby. If he keeps the movement skills that he had as a TE in 2019, he’s a future early round pick. They just don’t make many like this.

Well, the future is now for a lot of these young guys. Let’s hope they size these opportunities not only on Saturdays but during the week.

Alt is not the answer this year. Still very developmental, but he's an athlete with incredible upside. Certainly underrated as a prospect.

He should be the starting LT going forward. And, at first watch, Lugg played better. I’d like to see Carmody get some snaps at RT.

Agree with all of this. Alt straight up had some ugly rookie mistakes but his compete level and motor are super high. His fundamentals as a true frosh are higher and their is definitely NFL upside there.
