if ND doesn't solve their OL issue and defensive issues then ND is going to struggle to be a 6-6 football team this year. with NDs current issues ND could very easily lose their next 6 games and if that happens then get ready to see their recruiting class just fall apart. other than maybe navy I don't see a gimmie on NDs schedule for the rest of the season.

Have you seen our run defense?

I'm a glass half full kind of guy, so the good news is, we cannot get much worse from here. Only direction to go is up!

Sadly, that glass may be half full of piss b/c even if ND doesn’t get much worse, their opponents are going to start getting much better. To add to that, those tougher opponents get two weeks to prepare for ND. Based on the first two performances (which isn’t full-proof) I’d say this squad is at least a 3-loss team with five losses being more likely.

ND will lose to wisconsin, cincinnati, VT, USC and Stanford for sure, then the rest of the games could be 50/50.

I would take that for sure bet up with every Vbuck I had before the transition, but here we are. They aren't that bad. The Wiscy defense and Cincy have me worried, but I'm not at this level of panic.

We've been so spoiled since the debacle in '16... just buckle up and enjoy the entertainment lol.

This is going to be 2015 all over again: a depleted roster, particularly on defense, that has enough weapons to score points but not enough depth to put most teams away easily. Just soak it in, enjoy KA and Mayer while we've got them, and hope some young guys gear up for a big run over the next two years.

This is exactly where I’m at. We might go 10-2, we might go 7-5. Either way it’s going to be difficult to watch a lot of the time.

I wish I could do this. I sat down for toledo and told my wife that I'm just going to sit here and enjoy the game regardless.
What happens? I'm standing the entire game. My son is hiding behind the corner before every play on the last drive because he's convinced it's some good luck. I'm encouraging it by telling him he has to reset the juju before every play so come out and watch the replay then go back. We're jumping up and down yelling Baby Gronk on the game winning touchdown.

Can't be helped, so fuck it. Go Irish

I planned on watching via Peacock on a boat during a lake trip, but the cove we picked to set up shop didn't get service, so I was just getting some intermittent texts from some other IE brethren about a shitty frustrating game lol.

Usually I would've panicked and been angry that I couldn't watch what was unfolding... instead, I just drank a few extra adult beverages and floated around with some friends, taking in the many wonderful sites of a lake in late summer lol.

Fortuna and Sampson on the Shamrock this week had a Wiscy beat writer on this week who, as the norm for Athletic folks made the team he covers sound like the '85 Bears lol. Then of course went and picked ND to win after all of it

Indeed. But Sampson reversed his initial pick to an ND loss & Fortuna had ND losing as well. I don’t hear too many raving how good Wisky is but that ND OL has most folks taking the Badgers.

That and I also see Wiscy being able to run on ND. My argument there is FSU ran for 250 against ND lol

Ha, I hear ya. While Wiscy is run heavy per usual it’s hard to get a grasp of how similar they are to vintage Wiscy teams of the recent past. They TCB vs EMU but that’s not a measuring stick game. PSU gave up a lot of yards as well but proved that Wiscy has to have a reliable passing game to win. If Mertz continues to throw it to the other team &/or can’t complete a long pass downfield, ND can sell out on the run and let our man defense show what they have as a unit. There is no Quintez Cephus on this team. Danny Davis is the closest thing they have to a downfield threat and he pales in comparison to David Bell who ND did a nice job limiting his production.

I cannot see Mertz having anything less than a Heisman type game. It's what QB's do when the ND game rolls around no matter how crappy they've played prior.

I thought Joel Klatt was extremely complimentary of Notre Dame and Brian Kelly during the Wisconsin game. Praising the program stability under CBK and pushing back on the fact that ND lost to 2018 Clemson and 2012/2020 Alabama because everyone else would have too.

I think I was taken aback because we usually get the neutral professionalism with NBC but Joel Klatt was going all in for Notre Dame.

Always liked the Johnson/Klatt duo

Uh, Oh, the bottom is falling out of the pricing paradigm on the paysites.

Irish Illustrated is offering 2 months for a buck in the MIDDLE OF THE SEASON

SBT's INSIDE THE IRISH just cut prices in half.

These are the paysites I know of

Irish Illustrated
blue and Gold
Irish Sports Daily
Irish Insider
Atlantic (Sampson)
Sports Illustrated

that's a lot, and i will be surprised if there's not a shakeout in the next several years.

Lotta heavy shade towards Driskell at the end of the Irish Illustrated podcast tonight.

What’d they say? Give us the goods, lol

If you follow what Driskell has been saying forever, the II folks talked about how it’s real easy to drunkenly analyze games and say firing Rees and Quinn mid-season is the magical key because you know more about the team than Kelly does.

You’d have to actually hear the way they talked to get the context - it was clear they were doing everything but say Driskell’s name.

Any chance they were talking about Singer and Goolsby who were having a quiet drink while analyzing on Sunday night?
I doubt Driskell is a drinker.

Could have been, although isn’t Singer the most Pollyanna person covering Notre Dame? I can’t imagine he is calling for jobs after one loss.

I just know the II folks - Sampson especially - have a history of throwing shade at Driskell who *really* hates Quinn.

Driskell has never said to fire anyone. In fact he's against calling for it during the middle of the season. He has been very vocal that the Quinn and Rees hires were lazy. He's been right about Quinn the whole time. He may or may not be right about Rees.

I'm an admitted fan of Driskell as I think he's pretty dang good at analyzing from an outsider's perspective. Sure he can drag a point to death, but some people only want to see roses. I understand why he brought in Vince, but that guy doesn't add anything.

My favorite podcast is II for Prister and to a lesser extent O'Malley. I think Sampson is a clown.

Also, Tim, Tim, and Pete all independently predicted that Del and Quinn will not be at ND next year, so...

So you’re saying it was a lazy hire for Driskell to bring in Vince?
