Two immovable objects logic. If France is held goalless, hand Italy and their elderly CBs the trophy in Qatar, too.

I'd rate them to stop France in this tournament. Qatar is a different story entirely.

Italy needs to beat Austria first, and the Italy bandwagon is quite a bit more full now.

I am not entirely impressed with Portugal. I know they won the last Euros and have Ronaldo, but their defense is incredibly suspect, especially after the beatdown they took from a wobbly Germany squad. I don't think I'd have them up near the top of the list in terms of favorites.

Their attack is very good for sure with Ronaldo and Jota, but I think they were a better team with Sanches on the pitch versus Bruno. Sanches would also be a great replacement for Wijnaldum at Liverpool. Still a young man.

I'd love to see the winner of the England-Germany match go out in the next round to Sweden. It would be absolutely hilarious.

Agreed that they look much better with Sanches versus Bruno (and I'm a United fan). They have had times where they look incredible. They also have times they look very spotty. With that said, I would imagine Belgium winning by 2 (2-0 or 3-1).

Also, saw news that the FA is going to extend Southgates contract, regardless of outcome. Surprising to me.

I’m suspecting a lot of my Italy takes are going to age extremely poorly.

looks like VAR might bail out

Leave it to the Chelsea PK merchant to help concede a goal for Italy. I think Locatelli was marking the guy who scored for Austria, but screw Jorginho anyway.

Italy plays very well together, almost like a club team, with cohesion and spirit. What they lack is a star player who can take the game by the scruff of the neck and will the team to victory. I saw Steven Gerrard at 21 years old, the same age Phil Foden is now, DOMINATE Germany while playing for England in 2001. Roberto Baggio willed Italy to the WC Final in Pasadena in 1994.

This Italy squad doesn't have a player who would have that kind of presence. You saw in the second half today everyone was looking around looking for a leader.

I suspect they won their last match of the competition today. Credit to Austria. They fought hard and locked up the attacking Italy of the group stage. Great entertainment after that miserable beatdown Denmark gave Wales.

Chiesa isn't a bad footballer. His father was pretty good, too.

Croatia just came back from the dead. What a comeback.

See, nothing unpredictable can possibly happen. Everybody had the Czech Republic beating Netherlands.

Germany vs England winner directly to the final. Don't bother watching.

This may be the best gave I've seen this tourney. Croatia came back from two down with 10 minutes left. Spain nets two between minutes 100 and 103. Croatia almost put one in at minute 105. Lots of attacking soccer in this one.

This tournament has been remarkable and proves further how great this sport is.

Best game of the tournament. I can only imagine the electricity of the last 15 minutes if that Croatia attempt at the start of 2H extra time went in.

Right after I post that, the Swiss make it 3-2. Let's hope they can get another one in and make it really interesting.

Well, 3-3. 90th minute. Beautiful set up, beautiful goal. Impressive by the Swiss to go down by two and working back to level it up against the tourney favorite. Great day of soccer!

Maybe I'm just spoiled from watching Bayern all the time, but I've been frustrated by how often these guys are receiving the ball deep at a nearly impossible angle and just letting a shot rip instead of trying to cross or center it. Happened at least a dozen times in the Italy and Spain games.

After the great action that was the games yesterday, we get to sit for the snoozefest between England and Germany.

It's coming the fuck home.

Or, Foden misses a PK and Muller pots 3 en route to a 4 - 1 Germany win (own goal included with Muller hat trick),

If I had to guess, I'd say England vs Germany will be shit. Besides, the winner is going directly to the final, which saves me a lot of time in having to watch the rest of the matches on that side of the bracket.

Kylian Mbappe must now seek asylum in NW England. I'm thinking a song at Anfield and multiple hugs from Jurgen Klopp are just thing a person needs after a moment like yesterday.

Lionel Messi has missed more PK than anyone in the 21st century. Mbappe is going to be okay.
