The WR depth chart I figured can be addressed as a whole outside the player threads, the staff is in a tricky spot how they want to approach transfers as they will need to do so
Austin
Lenzy
Wilkins
Styles
Colzie
Thomas
Merriweather*
Williams*
Walker*
Let’s assume the good for this season, bad for depth chart result of Lenzy and Austin have a good season and are gone:
The boundary position is rather full still depending what they start the freshman out especially. Figure at minimum Colzie, Thomas, Wilkins.
Slot and Field you’re talking Styles is the veteran……..yikes. You almost have to bring in multiple transfers but do you bring in starters? Depth guys? A mess.
I don't think it's that big of a mess, but more likely the new normal. After extensive research including MULTIPLE google searches over the course of SEVERAL minutes, I've identified a handful of players that are potential targets based on production and not showing up on a draft list I also found.
Stanley Berryhill - California kid playing for Arizona, 5-11, RS JR, growing into a real player that could use another year at finishing school
Jared Smart - California kid playing for Hawaii, 6'0, SR but has a COVID year in his pocket, was HUGE two years ago
Jerreth Sterns - TX kid toiling away in Western Kentucky, , 5-9 and 195 but built like a mini mac truck, super productive but lacks explosion, wily veteran
Jalen Cropper - California kid at Fresno State, 6-0 but skinny averages over 13 YPC for his career, only a JR but at Fresno surely that means he can graduate early
Jacorey Sullivan - Michigan kid working on his craft at Central Michigan doing pullups on Brian Kelly's statue, 6'2 and 215 for a little size, went full beast mode on Mizzou last weekend
So there you have it, problem solved with a few DMs and strategically dropped swag bags. I've argued since the beginning of the transfer portal that this should be a net positive for ND. Let the young receivers with bigger ego than ambition move along and fill the gaps with the veteran producers from around the country that aren't NFL caliber but sure could use some graduate work at an elite institution just in case.
