Giants to trade Olivier Vernon to Browns for OL Zeitler

The Browns are shipping guard Kevin Zeitler to New York in the swap, per Garafolo and Rapoport. The Giants are also sending the No. 132 overall pick (fourth round) to Cleveland and getting the No. 155 overall pick (fifth round) in return.

The pact can't be consummated until the new league year opens on March 13.

The swap helps the Giants shore up a porous offensive line with one of the best guards in the NFL. The Browns had been shopping Zeitler with 2018 second-round guard Austin Corbett in line to take over duties. Zeitler has a base salary of $10 million in 2019 and is under contract through 2021.

Big Blue was seeking to trade Vernon, who is due $15.25 million in base salary in 2019 and 2020, ahead of free agency. What looked to be an untradeable contract found a home with the cap-flush Browns.

Giants fan here as well. Not sure really what to make of this. I thought they would bring Brown back and address RT via draft and free agency. Had to get rid of OV salary and injury history I know, but man we have to do something about this defense. It’s not too much of a salary dump and there was a swap of picks as well. I guess we will see.

I don't know too much about Oliver but the PFF grades look good for us... I'm not too confident in Corbett so yeah... wait at see. If they made this move with Ogbah sitting there I assume they are done dealing... expect Duke and Ogbah to be shopped.

I like it. Zeitler was getting paid too much as an interior lineman with what is essentially a first round pick sitting behind him. Hopefully Oliver can stay healthy.

I think it's a rare win/win trade. The Giants can now focus on defense in the draft and free agency. Plus they get a bit of short term cap relief and also Zeitler has no dead money left on his deal. Browns get help with the pass rush and have a capable backup at the guard position. Plus the draft pick swap.

no surprise here...Breshad Perriman wants out of his one-year, $4 million agreement with the Browns. A deal they signed about an hour before announcing OBJ deal. Dorsey is a killer!

I don't know. Beckham is still young, but the Browns gave up and awful lot for him. Hopefully he and Mayfield develop some chemistry. I'm cautiously optimistic, I just hope they didn't overpay. Used to seeing the Browns bring in veterans that are starting to crumble. His last few seasons haven't been great statistically, although injuries caused him to miss most of 2017.

Beckham is a generational talent, you guys are going to love him. I think this is a perfect situation for him with Landry and his coach. If he stays focused and healthy, you guys just landed the best receiver in the game. You just have to hope he doesn’t end up being a distraction, because I feel he just wore out his welcome here with management and his behavior. If he stays on path, the Browns are going to be an awful lot of fun to watch. I’m going to miss watching him every week. I hope it works out for both teams. Good luck guys! I’ve had a soft spot for the Brownies from my 4 years of college in Ohio. Great fans.

The way I look at it is he is only 26 and better than anything the Browns would have got at
pick 17. Peppers was overrated and didn't have the production a first round pick would be expected to have. I do not believe they would have resigned him anyway. The pick in the 3rd round is what they received from the Danny Sheltron trade. As a lifelong NEO resident and Browns fan, this is what I have been waiting for since the late 80's
