Time to reflect on the 2016 draft and the trades that netted picks in 2017. Comments?

Cleveland Browns 2016 NFL Draft Class The Worst In Franchise History?

Cleveland traded out of #2 to the Eagles, who selected Carson Wentz, getting 1(8). After #2, the picks were Joey Bosa, Ezechial Elliott, Jalen Ramsey, Ronnie Stanley and DeForest Buckner. They then traded 1(8) to the Titans who selected Jack Conklin, OT for 1(15) and picked Corey Coleman, WR. The Browns got a 7th round pick in 2020 for Coleman from the Bills. He was waived by them and then by New England and is on the Giants squad.

From the Eagles they also received their first round picks in 2017 1(12) which they traded to the Texans, selecting Jabril Peppers at 1(25) and their first round pick in 2018, selecting Denzel Ward 1(4) plus other picks.

After 25, left on the board were Tre-Davious White, T.J. Watt, Reuben Foster and Ryan Ramczyk who all were on the All-Rookie team that year.

The Cleveland Draftees - 2016 NFL Draft Tracker

Of the fourteen picks in 2016, one of their five picks in the first 93 picks of the draft - Emmanuel Ogbah 2(1) - is left and is a starter.

Joe Shobert, Ricardo Louis, Derrick Kindred, Seth Devalve, and Rashard Higgins are still on the roster. Shobert and Louis are injured. Kindred and Devalve are listed as second string.

Prior to the draft, Mitchell Schwartz, OT signed with the Chiefs when the Browns did not match his offer sheet of 5 years $33 million. Cam Erving has also found a home in KC via a trade for a fifth round pick in 2018 and is now starting at LG.

Thoughts? Was trading back for more picks in 2016, 2017 and 2018 worth it?

Just about every year is the worst Draft Class in franchise history. I'm still not convinced Baker is the savior, but I do think he's had the most fortunate circumstances of any of Cleveland's QBs the last few years. Losing Joe Thomas to retirement wasn't great for him, but arguably the team is playing a bit better this year and it goes beyond the QB position.

In my mind, draft choices by the Browns have contributed more than draft strategies in the first rounds.

As far as QBs go, in 2016 outside of Goff and Wentz in the first two picks, only Dak Prescott at 4(37) #135 has succeeded. The trade with the Eagles for #2 netted the first rounders in 2017 The Eagles pick that was traded to Texans for another two first rounders in 2018 resulted in Denzel Ward.

In 2017, Trubisky and Mahomes were gone at #12, so the trade with the Texans makes sense.

As far as the OL, they should have kept Mitchell Schwartz at ROT at 5 yrs for $33 million and then they would not have needed to sign Chris Hubbard at $37 million. Draft Ryan Ramczyk or Cam Robinson in 2017 in 2017 to replace Joe Thomas in 2018 instead of David Njoku at 1(29). They had 1(25) and picked Peppers. Instead pick Tre'Davious White at CB and use 2018's second pick on Bradley Chubb or Quinton Nelson. Retaining Cam Erving who is starting at OG for KC would have been another good move.

I think you're forgetting how bad Cam Erving is. He's being buoyed by all-stars all over their offense. Even still he had 2 holds against us when we played KC.

He grades out as the worst of the KC starting linemen. I don't get why the Browns did not match the offer sheet for Schwartz. Congrats on the win. Mayfield did well. Playing yourself out of the top ten? Dorsey and his scouting staff will help with future drafts, if last year's picks are an indication. No reason not to spend some money on the right free agents.

Horrible horrible officiating as usual. The NFL refs are a complete joke. I'd take ACC refs over the NFL bullshit. Their product is becoming unwatchable. There's several of these blatant terrible calls every single game. A moron could ref these games better. How retarded do you have to be to blow that play dead? What downside is there to allowing them to play it out? Idiots! IDIOTS!

I get that is a very difficult call for the human eye in real time. That said, what I don't understand, is why would you blow the whistle? Just let it play out... We all know, either way, it is going to be reviewed by every camera angle...let the technology work instead of looking like an idiot.

As I type this, Brownies just scored and should have the lead right now.

Terrible calls, and poor kicking,... if not for those we would have a first round bye,... oh well.

Kicker
DT ( I think this is an area no one is talking about, we need more disruption up the middle)
OLB
One more Tackle
WR
CB

I think that will be the focus,... easily done with the draft and our cap space. I expect big things next year.

A Browns fan and an ND fan. I don’t know how you do it. You are definitely a better man than I. Salud!

ACamp also wears tight underwear and eats at Taco Bell. He's a glutton for punishment, I tell ya.
