Tai?? Meaning Thai? Pho is Vietnamese not Thai... although Thai has some real interesting and adventurous soups that I'd recommend trying.

Pho is kind of the national dish of Vietnam, it's their soup,... but all/most Vietnamese joints will be called "Pho _____"... but have a full Vietnamese menu. I'd recommend

-Rare Beef Pho... sometimes a regular Pho will come with tripe and many other oddity meats... for most Americans just trying I'd highly recommend just the rare beef standard... it's very thin rib eye cooked in the broth.
-Fried Rice.. Every eastern culture has their take on it, Vietnam tends to put more meat in theirs, like sausage and other pork...
-Yakisoba.. not really Vietnamese but usually found at these places... I prefer it to chow mien.
-Spring Rolls
-Some places will have the Shabu style hot plates where you pick your meats, veggies and sauces and they bring it to you raw and you cook it to your liking... much like Japanese Shabu or Korean BBQ but with Vietnamese flavors.
-Smoothies... most of these joints have amazing smoothies... don't ask me why... they usually come with boba, but you can get them without (I do).
-They'll def have all the different teriyaki and noddle combos...

best bet is the Pho and a smoothie imo tho...

^Ha, spelled Thai wrong. Have an aunt from Thailand how did I fuck that up.

I knew it was Vietnamese food, but any place I see it on the menu has 'Thai' in the name.

Interesting... assuming those are fusion places... sounds great. I enjoy Thai coconut soups as well... tho not as much as Pho.

Thai is prob my favorite fried rice variation... generally speaking.

They have that on the menu also. A few different options.
BTW, what is pad Thai? Lol

Signature noodle dish of Thai cuisine (I guess you could call it Thai chow mien??).... honestly not my favorite... typically much thicker noodles than most other Asian noodles.

I'll take Yakisoba and Pancit over Pad Thai for noodle dishes...

Anyway, if they have that on the menu it's def a Thai/Vietnam fusion place... I've never seen that at a strictly Pho joint.

ha, yeah, it's def not a Vietnamese house... 8$ is fairly expensive too... one of the cool things about Pho, aside from how good it is, is that I can usually find a huge bowl, and I mean HUGE... like big enough to feed more than two people... fish bowl.... for like 5-6 dollars. I'll bet since it's a fusion house it comes in a reg soup bowl for 8 bucks...

I would be curious to know if you can choose your meats in that place tho... or if it only comes with what it comes with... typically you choose which meat(s) you want in it.

If you like spicy food, Curry dishes can be wonderful at Thai restaurants. There are different types of thai curry and spice levels. In order of least to most heat (generally)
Panang
Yellow
Red
Green
(though some places will have really spicy Red and a slightly milder Green).

I can enjoy Thai curry dishes, but they are not really my fav/something I get often... I've tried too, because I love Asian as a typical rule(easily my fav region of the world when it comes to stuff we eat.........)... never been that into curry though...

I probably wouldn't want the Pho from there. Most Vietnamese restaurants have 5-6 Pho options and that is just the beef ones. Many will have a chicken or two option and a seafood or two option (and some have tofu or just plain noodle options).

For example here is one local place by me
PHO (RICE NOODLE SOUPS)
11. Pho Xe Lua (Extra Large Bowl)
$8.99

Rare Slices of Steak, Flank, Well Done, Tendon & Tripe

11A. Pho Dac Biet (Large Bowl)
$7.99

Rare Slices of Steak, Flank, Well Done, Tendon & Tripe

12. Pho Tai (Regular Bowl)
$6.99

Rice Noodle Soup with Rare Slices of Beef Steak

12A. Pho Tai Bo Vien
$7.99

Rare Slices of Beef Steak & Meat Balls

12B. Pho Tai Gan Sach
$7.99

Rare Slices of Beef Steak, Tendon & Tripe

12C. Pho Tai Rau
$7.99

Rare Slices of Beef Steak and Vegetable

13. Pho Ga
$6.99

Chicken Rice Noodle Soup

13A. Pho Ga Rau
$7.99

Chicken and Vegetable Rice Noodle Soup

14. Pho Tom Cua
$8.50

Seafood Rice Noodle Soup

14A. Pho Tom Cua Rau
$9.50

Seafood and Vegetable Rice Noodle Soup

15. Pho Rau Dau Hu
$6.99

Tofu and Vegetable Rice Noodle Soup

15A. Pho Khong
$5.50

Plain Rice Noodle Soup

This^^

Veggie Pho options too (at least here in Cali, haha)

I wouldn't go to that place as your first attempt at Pho anyway... maybe after you know you've had the legit you can then gauge that place off of it.

Not much good Asian food in Southern Arizona so they can charge more. Back when I lived in CA and worked in Riveside, I could walk to a Vietnamese place that was $5.75 for a regular bowl and $6.75 for the XL bowl.

They also had some good Bo Kho (a beef stew) commonly served with french bread, and an underated dish when it is hot outside Bun (rice vermicelli)

Do you mean Matt's?

Phoenix has some really good restaurants.

Yes. It was between that and Barrio Cafe... my mom was with us though and she is less adventurous and from what we could see online Barrio looked like a different (maybe more high end??) style of Mexican than she is used to so we went to Matt's.

I had chilaquiles yesterday for breakfast. They were good

My wife has been on a 'cook chilaquiles' kick lately... I have not been complaining.

I passed on the Pho and tried Deluxe Beef Pad Thai (wide noodle, egg, bean sprouts, carrots). It was actually really really good.

I wasn't. It was set up like a cookie cutter Chinese joint. Counter in the front with a few tables, and everything else behind the swinging door. It was much more cookie cutter than I thought. The food was great, a bit spicy even tho I asked for medium. But I like spicy food. I ordered the dinner size $11.

Cool, glad you liked it man. As you can tell I have a passion for these types of foods, like sharing about and discussing them.

IN FACT!!!

Lunch today, the wife and I are going to said Pho joint, plan on sharing a bowl of Pho and a plate of fried rice.

(You know this soup is bomb when I'm still having it once a week during 100 plus degree weather.
