Me too but I don't feel like it's going to go down much unless there's a loss, and I don't think there will be unless we blow it in Texas. I'm no longer getting a Galaxy 7 or Iphone 6 this month now

this game is pretty early in the season and it's MSU's first real game. It's their second game of the season, but their first is against some FCS bs. So this will be the first real game they are playing and it's on the road at night in a hostile environment. Not a good scenario for breaking in a bunch of new guys. Plus BK has kinda figured out Dantonio's D.
I'd be pretty surprised if ND didn't win big. I'm thinking by 13-17 points margin of victory. I just don't think MSU will have enough, they lost way too many players and as good as Dantonio is and as good as that system is, they aren't a plug and play school like BAMA or Ohio State with 5*'s waiting in the wings at every position. Gonna take them time to re-stock.

Their DL might as well be returning, though, because their best DL is back, and they just brought in two 5th years that will probably start.

they should have a great LB unit, but their DL could be a real weak spot. It's a huge question mark aside from Malik McDowell.
You can have the best LB's in the world, but if you ain't got a DL, that won't matter bc those LB's will be on their backs 24/7.
On the reverse though, if you have a bunch of monsters up front at DL, almost doesn't matter what you have at LB.
EDIT: Alabama was ranked the #2 DL on those lists by Feldman and the #1 LB corps. No wonder why their D is so stinking good. That front 7 is always nasty and deep.

one 5th year that wasn't really all that good when he played at Nebraska and another that played small ball against not so great competition. Both were moves of desperation IMO.
McDowell is a beast, but their DL depth will stink. If he goes down they'll be screwed.

They are relying heavily also on those transfers they got and a freshman to break out. a real boom or bust group

We should have no issue plowing through their front 4. It'll be interesting to see who wins the matchup between our receivers and their DB's. Could very well depend on how much contact the refs are going to allow.

I love the way they play in the secondary. Very physical, hands on brand of football. Old school. The refs let it fly more in college.
Which is why I think Sparty DB's struggle once they get into the NFL. They have trouble adjusting to the new set of rules. Can't even touch a WR in the NFL after 5 years or it's an automatic penalty. It's a shame really. I blame Peyton Manning, Bill Polian, and that druggy Jim Irsay for that.

very boom or bust. I'd put money on bust. They just will not have any experienced depth and limited experience at this level apart of McDowell and the transfer from Nebraska. Who by the way was pretty awful at Nebraska. Can he get better? Sure. But he'll be mediocre if he gets better, because he was pretty bad.
McDowell is an absolute animal and a future 1st round pick but that's literally all they have to hang their hat on right now. They lost 6 DL players from their two deep. Calhoun who was drafted in the 3rd round, and a pair of vets who saw a lot of game action in former 5* recruit Lawrence Thomas and Joel Heath. Not to mention they lost 3 more guys to attrition that were all going to be expected on to start and/or play heavily in the rotation in Craig Evans, Damon Knox, and Montez Sweat. Not to mention their highest rated DL commit from 2016, Auston Robertson
They are going to be relying on a ton of RS Frosh and perhaps even some true frosh. That's not a recipe for a lot of success. Those positions take time to develop. And it's not like they are stock-piling the defensive lines with 5*'s every single class like Alabama. Their under-valued 3*'s take 2-3 years to develop into starting caliber players. They don't recruit plug and play linemen like that.
Your OL will steam roll them because all they'll have to do is block McDowell out of the play and it's game over. Especially that early in the season. They'll be better by the end of the year, that's just natural when guys who've never played start getting experience- they get better.
ND by 17 in this one though. At least imo. ND OL will be able to control the entire game.

You guys realize ND returns 9 starters, right? How many does MSU return? I'm guessing it's about the same. If this is a rebuilding year for them, you could say the same about our team too.

No, but how many guys like JJ are there? He's the only one I can think of. And for all I know MSU has guys like JJ as well.

not sure he falls in same category as JJ but morgan was frosh all american two years ago, not a returning starter and has PT under his belt. I would imagine quite a few DL guys. was Tillery, Cage, etc starters last year?

I honestly don't know who was technically the starter last year, I just saw the numbers and was surprised it's only 4 on offense and 5 on defense. And again, I don't give ND special treatment just because I follow them with the likes of JJ/Morgan who didn't start next year. Those are valuable guys who are as good as starters, but again, what's to say MSU doesn't have the same type of players on their roster? That's why I take returning starers at face value unless I know the other team's roster/follow them, which I don't.

This inexperienced ND narrative is very misleading. The injuries of '14 and '15 will pay off this year in the form of experience.
There are 26 players on ND's roster that have started.
That does not include all the returning ST specialists... K, P, LS, PR, KR. Hell, even the holder. They're all back, and all very good.

But clearly it is stacking the deck in MSU (or prior Mich) favor. That is some weakasssauce. Nothing is ever done about it. ND can clear say "if you cant do right, we wont do". ND doesnt HAVE to schedule MSU. No one is screaming for ND to play MSU. MSU has done well recently but they arent even a regional darling, much less a national one.
