Would the Brotherhood of slaughtered innocent people like that in the book?

No way. Unless they've had a collapse of leadership, or unless LSH is in charge and has given the "Murder Everyone" directive, my bet is that it's a group pretending to be the Brotherhood to taint their name.

One of the guys had clasps on his shoulders that looked like the Towers of the Twins, but it was unclear.

Things are setting up nicely for the next three episodes to be off the chain.

I can only hope that Cleganebowl and The Battle of the Bastards both happen before the season ends.

I imagine Dany will leave for Westeros at the end of Episode 10, saving that plot for next season.

Also, didn't they confirm recently that the show would be 8 seasons? Or is it still supposed to be wrapped up in 7 seasons?

The next three for sure, but the preview for next week looked absolutely lit.

Looks like that is still all up in the air as far as seasons, but an 8th season seems to be where we are going, no?

Loved the opening of this show. I'm happy to see the Hound back. Now bring on Cleganebowl

Also, Arya got plot armor that would make even Ramsay jealous. She got shanked to all hell by a trained assassin and is still alive? After going for a swim?

Does anyone else not give a shit about Arya's plotline? Super boring and pointless. I'll be really disappointed if this is all GRRM has planned for her. She goes off to this amazing other side of the world to become an amazing stealthy assassin. We see almost none of the cool new environment she's in, and the training couldn't have been more bland and repetitive. How many more donatello bow staff fight do we need? No they were going to expect us to believe she's some killing machine.

So I was at a concert last night and didn't get to watch and when I woke up this morning I was like there is no way I am making it through a whole work day without watching this episode so I watched it this morning and strolled in late lol.

The episode does not start with the opening credits and I'm sitting there thinking am I still drunk or is something going on...then HOUND. I was pumped.

So are we getting Mardelys or not this season?

I figured that was what the buildup with their first two meetings was for, but who knows? If the battle is happening in episode 9, then either they need to meet the Manderlys, or else the Manderlys have been written out of the show... right?

In the books, the Manderlys knew where Rickon was, which wasn't a detail that came up in the show. Perhaps they shared the info with the Umbers in the background of the show's action, only for the Umbers to use that knowledge to get in good with Ramsay? And that's what will lead to the Manderly's renewed commitment to House Stark, in order to right their wrong?

#Speculation

Do we know who Sansa was writing to? Littlefinger?

That's what I figured, considering how she was acting as she wrote it. Or perhaps she was writing directly to Robin Arryn, and her look of concern was because she knows that he's unstable and doesn't know how he will react to her letter?

Give me Bronze Yohn and the Blackfish side-by-side and I'll squeal like a schoolgirl.

No way. Unless they've had a collapse of leadership, or unless LSH is in charge and has given the "Murder Everyone" directive, my bet is that it's a group pretending to be the Brotherhood to taint their name.

Possible explanation from /r/asoiaf: the BwB goons recognized the Hound, reported his presence back to LSH, who then ordered the massacre. Also, there was lots of LSH foreshadowing in that episode, and the synopsis for S6E10 says "Brienne meets a friend turned foe".

One of the guys had clasps on his shoulders that looked like the Towers of the Twins, but it was unclear.

Can't find a screenshot right now, though others have allegedly looked into that and debunked it.

Do we know who Sansa was writing to? Littlefinger?

Someone in the Vale. Littlefinger would be the most obvious recipient, though she may be writing directly to Sweetrobin or Bronze Yohn Royce for a twist.

Other thoughts:
  • I enjoyed Lyanna Mormont, and that long shot of Mormont Keep was gorgeous.
  • Jon camping where Stannis burned Shireen is interesting. Will likely lead to Davos learning of her sacrifice, and him confronting Mel about it.
  • That site is also where the famous Bolton hero, Ser Twenty of House Goodmen, won a ridiculously implausible victory over Stannis' army. If that bad ass is still in Ramsay's service, then Jon has no chance.
  • Enjoyed seeing Olenna blast Cersei. Her line about, "You're surrounded by thousands of enemies... what are you doing to do? Kill everyone?" is a pretty strong indicator that Cersei is going to channel the Mad King and burn KL with Wild Fire.
  • I was disappointed by the Hound/ Brother Ray storyline. Septon Meribald's speech from ADwD is one of the best in the series, and I assumed that Ian McShane's one-off casting meant that they'd give him some great dialogue to justify hiring such a big name for a single episode. But no, we get some weak sauce about "Hey, I did some bad stuff once, and now I'm trying to do better." But at least he got to drop the oh-so-subtle LSH line, "It's never too late to come back."

Oh, and I'm really enjoying the Freys portrayal as the mud-farmers from Monty Python and the Holy Grail. Dirty and utterly incompetent.

Aren't they? From AFFC Chapter 33, Jamie V:

"Tully ought to make a sortie, to remind us all we're still at war. Be nice if he culled some Freys too. Ryman, for a start. The man's drunk more oft than not. Oh, and Edwyn. Not as thick as his father, but as full of hate as a boil's full of pus."

Yeah, gonna delete these in a sec. HBO also doesn't mess around with this kind of stuff.

Alternatively, as a paying HBO customer, does anyone know how I can get the final 3 episodes while in France?

Thanks LAX.

Maybe the HBO GO app?

Can any of you guys confirm that HBO Go works abroad? I guess I could Google it myself, just curious if anyone has actually used the app themselves while overseas.

Here's an /r/asoiaf theory arguing: (1) that Syrio = Jaqen; and (2) that we didn't actually see Arya get stabbed last night, but Jaqen glamoured to look like Arya.

It's a reach, but it does make me wonder about the Arya scenes last night. She acts pretty strangely.
