I get that and its a good plot twist. However, don't you feel like he'd be arrested on the spot and summarily tortured beyond measure for his disobedience? Thats the only thing keeping me from buying the Winterfell scenario.
I just feel like the narrative at Winterfell is shifting towards the northern civil war and I don't think Theon has a role to play in that story.

I bet his hope is that Ramsay will try to turn him into Reek again. In the preview for next week, someone tells Ramsay "I brought you something."

My guess is that it's Theon, who was intentionally captured, in hopes of getting close to Ramsay.

But I could be wrong. I just rewatched the season 3 episode where he says he made the wrong choice, so that's probably creating bias in how I'm reading the situation.

After the dragon scene, are we somewhat confident that Tyrion is in fact a Targaryen bastard child, and no son of Tywins?

Yea that was either some pretty clear foreshadowing or the producers are trying to fool us.

Which really could be either, imo. They did that with the wildling leader making the comment regarding building a pyre for Jon Snow's body. Clearly a nod to those of us thinking he could be reborn through fire. But then they just let Melasandre do her thing.

We will also presumably find out if Howland Reed is indeed the High Septon....:)

Super excited for the upcoming episode. My only concern is with the recent spoilers making there way around the Internet.

Spoilers:

Rickon is the gift for Ramsey that was teased in the trailer for the next episode. I swear if he hurts that littled boy or hurts Shaggy Dog, I'm going to be super pissed. Some speculate the Pink Letter will indeed play out just in a different form.

So I guess this is the designated nitpicking thread so here are a couple:

1) They have just butchered the whole Iron Islands stuff. I found it really interesting in the books and not interesting at all in the show.

2) Why are we back to where we started with Arya getting her ass kicked by that girl? I mean we have already seen this and we have already seen her beat that girl without eyesight so what is the point?

1) still better than Dorne

2) yea I have no idea. Tonight's was a great episode in that a lot happened but imagine how much better it would be if that time was spent elsewhere. Arya's story has overtaken Denyreaus as most stagnant/boring of the show. Seriously take the 3 minutes of her getting beat up and give it to a shot of Tormund staring at Brienne. I could watch a whole episode of that.

I forgot about Dorne! Do you think they are just going to ignore it completely going forward and hope we don't care or notice??

My guess is that they won't come in play until Dynareaus makes a move to Westeros or even makes landfall. Maybe throw a couple of 3rd party, one liner updates to them in a similar way Littlefinger mention Brynden Tully and Riverrun.

I forgot we weren't supposed to complain in the GoT thread, so here I am.

1. World War Z zombies.

2. Littlefinger teleporting from the Vale to Mole's Town in like... a day? With the Boltons controlling the Kingsroad in the North, to boot.

3. Bronze Yohn Royce takes Moat Cailin and Brynden Blackfish retakes Riverrun. This happens offscreen and without any explanation because apparently it's NBD. Also, information seems to travel exactly as fast as the plot dictates. Littlefinger can teleport yet none of this information seems to have reached King's Landing.

4. Wart penis.

5. Arya stagnating.

6. Bloodraven knew the NK was coming for the cave, so why is he dicking around showing Bran irrelevant stories from Ned's childhood? I get that Bran "had to" go back to mess up Hodor, but the motivations of the characters still need to make sense in the moment.

The didn't seem too different from the ones that were on the beach at Hardhome at the end of that episode.

Agreed. It also seemed like the White Walkers teleported, too. But I guess we had no idea where they were previously so not as big a deal.

Agreed--see below

I think either (a) there is something important in that scene outside of Hodor or (b) Bloodraven wanted to make sure Bran knew he could alter the future. Makes sense to me.

Also, each new episode is somehow managing to make past episodes suckier in retrospect. For example, Jon Snow mic-dropping "my watch has ended" and walking out of Castle Black... just to be back Lord Commandering in Castle Black in the subsequent episodes. See also: Jon Snow dying and bring resurrected, apparently with zero consequences.

I re-watched the "My watch has ended" scene. He didn't mic-drop and walk out of Castle Black... he mic-dropped and walked away from the meeting grounds to go make his plans. I imagine it was a dramatic, "I'm gonna go do me, you do you" moment.

It certainly made it seem like he was leaving on the spot, but it just shows him walking away from the main area, not out of the gates.

To elaborate on this a bit:

Asha is like FIRST THING IMMA DO WHEN I'M QUEEN IS EXECUTE THAT COCKSUCKER UNCLE OF MINE FOR KILLING MY FATHER.

Then Euron just strolls in there and is like...yeah I killed the king. COME AT ME BRO. WITH YOUR COCKLESS BODY. DID I MENTION HE WAS COCKLESS?

Asha and Theon just chill there doing nothing about it. So of course everyone is like well I ain't fucking with this guy.

Meanwhile the Kingsmoot in the books was awesome because there was a ton of scheming in the background and actual cool speeches, etc. Total butchering.

The only thing I really didn't like is the Sansa/Jon thing that appears to be playing out. Why would she lie to Jon? Why would she trust LF? All of a sudden he's back to being her half brother? WTF. It took all of a day a day for her to put Jon right back I his place as a bastard, and not a Stark.

She's not trusting LF. LF gave her two pieces of information:

1. The Blackfish has retaken Riverrun.
2. The Knights of the Vale hold Moat Cailin.

Number 2 is the one that LF has control over. By lying to Jon about that, she's showing that she doesn't trust LF because she refuses to use his help. If she had told Jon the truth, Jon would have wanted to bring the Knights of the Vale into the fold, which Sansa doesn't want precisely because she knows LF has shady motives. She'll trust the Riverrun information because she's always felt a kinship to the Tully side of the family. The line about her being a Stark as opposed to Jon was not a slight on Jon, it was just political reality.

I thought it was supposed to be hinting at the fact that Jon could be legitimized, just like Ramsay was.

As for lying to Jon, I thought that was because she was covering her bases if Riverrun hasn't actually been taken back by the Tullys. If she says "I heard it from Littlefinger" and they walk into a trap, she is to blame. If she says "I heard it from Ramsay," she's off the hook because she was in a shitty situation.

agree with this take on the whole "why would/was sansa lying to jon snow?" question/angle.

was also wondering: is there any possible chance Blackfish has NOT taken Riverrun here? (meaning: is there a reason for Littlefinger to lie about that? if so what is the reason?)

also--isn't Sam going to get the Tarlys to also "help Jon"?

are there enough birds to carry the messages to the seven kingdoms about all that's happening "in the North"

Benioff and Weis commented on that scene by pointing out that Sansa is starting the see the world from Littlefinger's perspective ("playing the game"), and that her decision to lie about where she received that intel indicates that she doesn't fully trust Jon.
