This will be fascinating to watch.....will it be successful or will it be a dumpster fire? So as of right now, you have the whole Zika virus ordeal, Brazil just decided to begin the process of impeaching their President, a massive budget cut in March of this year for the games and there is no guarantee that the infrastructure projects are going to be completed on time. The latest I have read is that the stadiums themselves will be complete, but the proposed train line into the Olympic park will not be completed, thus forcing everyone to arrive via foot, car or bus. Finally, you have Rivaldo telling people to "stay away". Yikes. I will be watching just to see how this unfolds.

Unfortunately I think it is going to be a disaster. Makes me sad, the Olympics are one of my favorite events.

yeah, I've never been less interested in an Olympics... I'll watch the swimming as that's always been my fav but besides that I'll just try to ignore everything, including the social chaos that may take place...

South American countries are not known for competent government. A basic rule -at least among Western countries- is the better the food, the worse the government.

I have always thrown the idea around in my head of doing away with the Olympic and World Cup bidding process. It is massively corrupt, costs the host countries way too much money, and time and time again we hear of projects not completed on time and abandoned after the event.

My proposal, which would be in a sense unfair, would be for each continent to have a country designated to host these events with a rotation between them. At least in this scenario there is reasonable infrastructure in place with minor renovations needed between games.

I don't think it unreasonable to have a country show they ALREADY have the needed infrastructure (or close to it) before they are even considered... but that's coming from someone thinking logically about venue rather than in terms of kick-backs and personal gain....

Antarctica 2020!

2022, needs to be Winter, get it right!

I almost put the disclaimer of except Antarctica, but then I thought "No, people will get it." There's always one who has to be the funny guy. Haha

BTW, assuming the impeachment goes thru, the new first lady of Brazil would be Marcela Temer. A picture of her is below. I would fully support her sister, Fernanda Tedeshi, being the Rio games mascot. Apparently she has a nice spread in Playboy. You can search for pictures yourself.

I like this idea, maybe even more than the other idea I had seen thrown around of always hosting in Greece.

I feel like quite a few more turd-holes will be following Sochi and Rio, in some weird conspiracy to force these wastelands to clean their act up. Perhaps India next?

BURNING RUBBER
Olympics 2016: Triple The Condoms!
(The Daily Beast)

From the moment it was announced that Rio de Janeiro would hold the 2016 Summer Olympic Games, the jokes started flying about what would happen when all those perfectly sculpted bodies collide at the Olympic Village. In fact, the International Olympic Committee is so certain of the amorous effects of the Marvelous City—with its curving coastline, jutting mountains, and Rio natives of all shapes, sizes, and ages jogging on the city’s famous beaches in G-strings—that officials have ordered a record number of prophylactics.

Officials have ordered 450,000 condoms for the more than 10,000 athletes housed in the Olympic Village.

According to the Folha de São Paulo newspaper, which broke the story in May, the IOC is providing 350,000 male condoms, 100,000 female condoms, and 175,000 packets of lubricant. That works out to 42 “camisinhas,’’ Brazilian slang for condoms, per athlete. (In Brazilian slang, the term means “little shirts.’’ )

In Athletes’ Housing at Rio Olympics: Blocked Toilets, Leaking Pipes and Exposed Wiring

On Saturday night, Australian officials said they had tried to conduct a “stress test” to determine whether the facilities were ready for their athletes. They turned on lights and flushed toilets in apartments on several floors.

“The system failed,” Ms. Chiller said. “Water came down walls, there was a strong smell of gas in some apartments and there was shorting in the electrical wiring.”

I have always like the Olympics. But a what time do all these countries stop throwing a boat load of money away on them? Yes I love the red, white, and blue flying over head just think it is a bit crazy.

c'mon Sochi was hilarious, they had a winter olympics at a beach resort in Russia!

I fully expect a venue to collapse this time though
Or a riot
Or a dysentery outbreak
This may be the Olympics that literally anything we hear we'll just be like "No shit those morons picked Brazil"

Hell the way this is going I expect the 450,000 condoms to be tissue paper and we'll have 6,000 Olympic babies next year.
