You're all justice and no mercy, wizards. Telling a poor single woman that just got pregnant, "Abortion is now illegal, so you'll have to at least carry this baby to term. But you'll get no support from us in doing so, because reasons. If you don't want to get pregnant, don't have sex, dummy!" is pure hypocrisy.

You understand the grave moral importance of ending abortion, but you're unwilling to dedicate any public resources toward helping struggling women without the social capital necessary to safely bring their babies into the world? It's that attitude that allows the pro-abortion lobby to paint us as anti-woman.
Just because I don't want to dedicate public resources to struggling women doesn't mean I don't want to dedicate resources to struggling women. In fact, my personal charitable giving goes to three places: Notre Dame, the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, and Catholic crisis pregnancy centers like Carolyn's Place. I'd be willing to wager that you and I would support very similar programs, I just don't believe they belong on the Federal budget. The government is incapable of dispensing mercy so I'd prefer it stick to justice. Let Churches and communities handle the mercy.

Hypothetical: a bill is on the table that will over-turn Roe v. Wade and implement a Federal ban on abortion. The House has passed it, and the President has promised to sign it, but the Senate Democrats won't pass it unless it comes packaged with paid maternity leave and other forms of maternal support. Do you compromise, or do you let abortion on demand remain the law of the land?

But this brings us back to an argument we've had many times. Your preference for public justice and purely private charity is classically American (and Protestant), but it ain't Catholic. If we abolished the welfare state tomorrow, the result would not be a massive out-pouring of charitable giving to make up for and eventually surpass the old system; but a sharp increase in privation among our lower classes.

Let's play ball. I would take that deal every day.

Well this just has everything.....

Trump-backing tow truck driver refuses to tow a Sanders supporter.

"When he saw 'a bunch of Bernie Sanders stuff' he said he told the woman, 'very politely,' " that he could not "tow her car because she was 'obviously a socialist' and advised her to 'call the government' for a tow."

"Something came over me, I think the Lord came to me, and he just said get in the truck and leave," Shupe said. "And when I got in my truck, you know, I was so proud, because I felt like I finally drew a line in the sand and stood up for what I believed."

“I own the truck. The side of my truck says ‘Shupe.’ It doesn’t say ‘freebie,'" he said. "You know, and every time I’ve dealt with these people in recent history, I get burned. With an “E,’ not a ‘U.’”

The Sanders supporter is Ms. McWade, 25, and has psoriatic arthritis, fibromyalgia, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and early-stage Crohns, making her time on the road without a bathroom nearby a “terrifying” experience, she told ABC News. She is legally disabled and said her handicapped placard was hanging from her rearview mirror.
Mr. Shupe said he didn’t know that Ms. McWade was disabled, but said it wouldn’t have changed his mind not to tow her.

“Had she been disabled, would I have towed her car? No ma’am. I would have pulled forward and sat there with her to make sure she was OK until another wrecker service showed up to get her home safely, but I still would not have towed her car,” he told ABC News. “I stand by my decision, and I would do it again today if the opportunity presented itself.”

This is what makes America Great Again? I don't get what her political views have to do with him towing her car. He just sounds like a dick!

The sad irony of this guy saying that "the lord spoke to him" and told him to do a completely un-Christian act.

And I understand we can't quit the welfare state cold turkey. I believe my preferred economic policies would make it largely obsolete. Instead of debating whether almsgiving should be public or private, I'd rather see focus placed on reducing the amount of assistance that's necessary in the first place. One big problem with that is that our sense of proportionality is all out of whack in a nation so prosperous. The "suffering" of a poor American in 2016 isn't suffering at all by global or historical standards.

At least he said he would have stayed with her had he known she was disabled.

Subtract the disabled stuff and you have to admit the "call the government" shit is funny.

CNN talking about Paul Ryan still not endorsing Trump. Not ready to support his agenda.

Trump responds says he's not ready to support Ryan's agenda lol.

Breaking: FBI to interview HRC's aid regarding email scandal. Expected to ask for interview with Hilldog herself soon. She gonna look good in orange.

Let's move on to an important topic:

“I played at his golf course two years ago in Palos Verdes,” De La Hoya told reporters. “I was teeing on the first hole and next thing I know here comes a golf cart. It’s Donald Trump: ‘Oscar, can I play with you?’

“Of course, this is your golf course,” De La Hoya said he responded.

“First ball, [Trump] hits off to the water, gets another ball from his pocket. Hits it off to the left, out of bounds,” De La Hoya said.

Trump said, “Oh, I got another one, just warming up,” De La Hoya recounted.

“Another one to the water. Then the fourth ball he hits - I know it went to the bushes. But Donald, what he does, he tees off first so he can take off right away. I pipe mine down the middle. So we go off to our ball, and who do we see? Donald Trump, right in the middle of the fairway,” De La Hoya said.

He quoted Trump saying, “By the way, I found my first ball, it’s right here.”

“We’re like, ‘OK, yeah,’ we’re cracking up, not in front of his face,” De La Hoya said. “Then we go on to a par-3, 170 [yards]. There’s a big bush right between the tee and the green, so you can’t really see the green - you can see the flag, not the green. [Trump] hits and we just know it went out of bounds. We know it. He takes off.

“We get up there [to the green] and he’s like, ‘Oh, my ball’s right here!’ Three feet away. ‘And by the way, I’m going to pick it up, it’s a gimme,’” De La Hoya said.

“You don’t do that in golf,” De La Hoya said, adding there were no side games in play where money was exchanged.

“No money at all, how can I win?” De La Hoya said. “I’m not [voting] for someone who cheats in golf.”

And she's on the payroll, so what's she going to say?

Wonder what the Mexican's will say that make the Taco Bowl at Trump tower?

That's a terrible analogy. A better one would be that if government was serious about stopping auto theft, they would require auto makers to put theft deterrent systems in their vehicles.

Which is pretty accurate, albeit not a serious issue requiring government intervention.

So should we install birth control at a certain age?

Question.... and I'm not asking facetiously, but in a world where overpopulation is becoming an ever increasing environmental issue, why is a decrease in birth rates a negative?

Not saying it should be a positive for pro choice, just interested in why that's a suggested angle for pro life.

increasing environment issue... and the increasing welfare issue?

I knew it last month. So did Wooly but he won't admit it.

Things could get interesting between now and election time. If you or I did this kind of crap, we'd be in cuffs.

Trump's economic populism v. Ryan's more Chamber-of-Commerce-centric views is a debate the GOP really needs to have.

so sad they friendship soured lol... how much did Trump donate to slick willie?

Has it soured? Trump's newly announced Finance Chairman is a major Clinton donor, too. What are the odds that the Clintons convinced Trump to destroy the GOP from within? Stranger things have happened, and it would make some sense of an otherwise insane 2016 primary.

Not ready to put my tin foil hat on just yet, but good points.
I just can't see HRC being able to mislead the public and fake her disgust with Trump. Well, now that I think about it..... never mind. Going to get my hat.

I don't know if those voting for Trump really care about "GOP" trust right now, or sadly ever again. The GOP and talking heads like Meyers need to look in the mirror if they want to understand why an idiot like Trump is now the nominee.

This is true on both sides, actually. The mainstream media still hasn't quite figured out why so many people are supporting a xenophobe like Trump or a socialist like Sanders. Perhaps if they got out of bed with the establishment and stopped focusing on ratings/revenue, they'd be able to do some real journalism and understand what has all these people riled up to the point where they'd support either of these two candidates, both of whom are exceptional outsiders to our current status quo.
