Interesting you bring that up... We need to have this discussion in the Max thread because this isn't the first time I've heard this brought up in the past week.

What is OFD talking about? Developmental project? He's basically penciled in to start right now and was heavily recruited to the wire against Ohio State. He was not some raw athlete being converted into a defensive back.
There are very few scenarios where he doesn't start besides Redfield returning and moving to SS with Studstill starting opposite him, or MAYBE Sebastian could beat him out.
Does "heavily" recruited by Ohio State mean no offer and, what was it, one visit to Columbus a couple months before being offered by ND? I know that sold everyone on Williams!
He could be a developmental project just like nearly all young safeties at Notre Dame. What's so controversial about that? Redfield and Shumate weren't all that ready and developed in their second years on campus, both more highly rated, and saw the field as freshmen.
We sure as heck didn't recruit him as a stud safety on our board otherwise there wouldn't have been 10 months of radio silence after he visited for Junior Day. The reactions here to his commitment, especially, didn't indicate someone who definitely wasn't going to take some time to develop.
Seems pretty odd to think this is a super hot take unless you just saw an opportunity to drop the "insider" knowledge that Redfield might not be back. That's probably it.

I'm starting to think you go by Rocket not because he was your favorite player, but because you spit fire. You're always coming in all guns a blazing.
Though if I recall, you write for OFD?

I know this isn't the thread for it but Max to SS could be a very good idea. The guy tackles better than he covers. Assuming we can find someone else to play free. (I actually had KVR penciled in there in my head. Oh well...)
What about Max at SS and Butler at FS?

I know that OFD has some heavy support from some important people on this site, so I know I risk some backlash when I say that I sometimes wonder if they're even writing about Notre Dame football.

Even if he was unhappy, really bizarre timing on his part. The beginning of spring is probably the worst time I can think of for a player to transfer.
Good luck to him, but this is pretty shitty news to start the day. I liked his film and now we have have to get BGIF a helmet for the 2 deep.
Wow, this is fucked. ND really needs to find kids that are willing to wait there turn and put in the time. Two ways you win. Build a roster through keeping players around 4-5 years like Stanford or recruiting the elite talent that is ready to play within 2-3 years like OSU/Bama.
From the outside this looks pretty stupid to do now, especially with our depth chart. Unless he already got passed on the depth chart by a frost but I doubt the staff conveyed that to him already.
