I would push hard for this kid. Next Jamal Lewis.

Did you know coming out of high school that Jamel Lewis wanted to goto UGA. But, that Jasper Sanks was the higher rated player and Georgia chose him over Lewis. Lewis ended up going to Tennessee. How did that workout for Georgia? Did the rankings get that one correct?

Well we are recruiting him as a linebacker so going to be hard to see the Jamal Lewis if he comes to ND. That's why I think he goes elsewhere because he wants to play RB.

Can I ask how you came up with that comparison? IMO nothing in their games are similar

I think he's referring to losing a kid by not recruiting him for the position he wants to play.

Is that for sure? Because it seems stupid to lose a talented recruit based on position. Unless he's absolutely set on playing RB to get to the NFL as an RB, in which case he probably ought go to Wisconsin. (But someone ought to tell this very well-educated young man about the shelf life of an NFL running back).
IMO, if you're us, you tell him you can see him on either side of the ball. Keep your (and his) options open. If he insists on RB, let him give it a shot, and once he's on campus give him a good look at the stacked depth chart above him. If he's good enough he'll play. But if not you turn him around his freshman year. You don't lose a guy who's legitimately good enough to play on either side of the ball over the issue at this point.

Do you have the story where this is confirmed by either side? I've heard this second hand, I've heard it's TBD, I've heard it's RB. I remember him saying he's looking to play RB so I don't like the chances if he's being told LB only.

That being said, RB is the offensive position I worry about least. OL, QB, WR, I'm picky. RB... put anybody you want in there and they'll produce.

Sampson and someone else I trust who knows what's going on have stated he's being recruited at LB

LB is going to be the best position for him at the next level with his athleticism and size. He could be a bigger back, but he could be an elite Mike.

I like him at LB but he told rivals that he's being recruited for RB only now.

I'll believe his best position is LB when I see an interview where he says he wants to be a MLB, not a RB. RB and QB are hard to give up when you've grown up a star at the glamour positions that control the game and the points.

It will be interesting to see how it pans out.

Scout: staff told him they are recruiting him as a RB. Specifically:

“That happened probably a month or so ago,” Dillon said. “They confirmed I'm on the board as a running back, only a running back. That obviously puts them up there now. I came out with my top five (on Friday) and they're up there. They're one of the schools I'm thinking about the most, along with the other four.”

Disgusting. I just vomited in my mouth.

No team in the NFL plays an I formation game anymore anyway. If kid wants to make it in the pros he should play RB for Notre Dame! He will learn how to block and catch out of the backfield. the more things you can do, the more valuable of a player you are in the NFL.

RB is a dime a dozen position these days in the NFL. The guys take the most pounding and they get the least amount of money.

Aside from Adrian Peterson and Marshawn Lynch there wasn't any RB's in the whole leauge avg. more than $10 mil a year. Peterson was a $14+ and Lynch was at $12. Lynch retired, now Peterson is the only one. Next closest RB is McCoy who averages $8 mil a year in salary.

Meanwhile there are 18 LB's who average around $8 mil or more per year and 11 of those 18 are avg. $9 million and up and 7 of those average $10 mil and up.

I'd rather play LB.

I'd rather have the Miami commit at RB for 2017.

Me too and not even close. There are a lot of RB's I'd push for if we are only taking one. I bet AJ is a great kid and will do very well but he's not a great system fit (offensively) and he's not open to other options. This is a big boy already, if he has to play RB, then he should probably do it elsewhere.

Very good point.

Wish him well but moved on at this point.

Bet he ends up at LB for scUM before its all said and done.

Not the point I was trying to make. But, valid point anyway.

It wouldn't surprise me if all schools sell him on playing RB and then moves him to LB. At this point we're tryin to do the same. However, I'm not really sure how much conviction we have behind our recruitment here. The media makes it sound good but I'd be really surprised if the ND RB board doesn't have quite a few names ahead of him.
