He was. I can't remember what the penalty was, but he didn't serve much time. Don't remember if he got hit with a fine. I listened to part of his deposition and he was a total jerk off.

Andrews was talking about how a lot of people thought she was doing this as a publicity stunt to further her career. The hotel told the guy what room she was in. The hotel's attorney's are trying to make it completely this guys fault because "he tricked them" into giving out her room number.

I stated before I thought 75mil was out of line and still believe that. However, I do believe she has every right to compensation. I can see her getting 5-10mil. Of course it will be a long time before she sees any money as the attorneys will appeal.

Stated that It happened at the Mariott

I stay at Hotels regularly for my job and If this ever happened to us I would feel 75 million couldn't touch the cost of my wife's life being turned into a joke, and the grief would be undeniable. 75 mill. to the Marriott is pennies and just another tax right off more than likely.

He was charged with interstate stalking, a federal crime, and spent 30 months in prison.

I think you're comparing apples and oranges. Sketchers publicly made a claim that their product did things in order to promote and sell shoes.

If it wasn't for Marvel and Lucas Films, I'd completely write Disney and all it's down line off. They have turned into some real azzhats.

South Park has a couple great episodes regarding Disney.

Kind of sad. I mean, here you have a woman that everything career she has came as a reslt of her physical appearance (dance girl at UF to female sideline reporter for football games). Listen to her and you know it isnt because of her X and O knowledge.

Kind of like a woman with huge implants wearing a tight shirt and giving dirty looks when she sees guys looking at her boobs.

Go figure.

So all the tears and Im the victim talk at the trial was such a joke. It is all about getting the money. No human being is worth 75 million, much less someone like her.

No. She was a victim. Period.

You can argue that 75 million is too much, but this post is some serious victim shaming.

I think she should be compensated by Marriott. I have not idea what is the right number. But if it is indeed $75m, that is not "pennies" to Marriott......in 2014, their net income as a company was $750m and their cash flow (aside from stock buybacks) was ~$600m. So, it wouldn't bankrupt them, but it would be material to their results.

Clearly she had it coming then, no? She's beautiful, and a public figure. She should expect someone to film her while she is in a hotel room alone.

Wait, your analogy (implant, cleavage, men staring) suggests that Erin got what she deserved...

What?

Holy sexism.

I think it's high and you don't. No biggie and thus why we have a trial. Someone has to determine what is fair. Is this a jury trial trial? If so, we'll see what others deem is fair.

You're right. When I first heard it on TV, I thought they said three months, but after posting, I read it was 30 months which seems more reasonable.

Highly doubt she gets anywhere near that amount. Not sure how much PTSD you can claim from this. I mean she probably has to relive it every time she travels, which is sort of mandatory given her job.

She has every right to sue for that amount, but it does seem optimistic.

Her sense of personal security was violated. This is a very serious matter. She will never feel really secure ever again when she stays at any hotel alone.

Listening to her stories about what she does when she checks into a hotel now...

Right away change rooms, never allows maids or anyone in the room.. Sets up a piece of paper by the door so she knows no one entered her room... It's crazy but she is haunted by this..

No one on the planet deserves this violation, and people say 75 million is too much? I don't think its enough.. Marriot should go bankrupt.. They allowed a guy to check in next to her by requesting it.. they laughed off everything and allegedly had employees showing friends the video... I will never stay at any Marriot and sure as hell wouldn't let my daughter stay there...

That's a lot of money, especially considering we have at least one poster on here who thinks she "asked for it".

In all seriousness, she's obviously a victim. And she should get compensated. This much? Maybe, maybe not.

My fear is, most people will agree she's a victim. But, to some, this is going to make women look bad. She's going to continue that "is she actually depressed, or faking it for money" question.

I think if she wasn't asking for money, and the only "payout" was penalties for the at fault parties, that didn't go to her.

I don't know the legal process on these situations. But let's say she took this "win" and funneled every last drop to women's abuse charities (etc), people would feel a lot more understanding.

But now, there's always going to be that lingering "question", and it's going to be asked each time these events happen.

Its just a shitty situation no matter how you look at it.

She has 55 million reasons not to care what anyone thinks about her. It's a lot of money but I can't say for certain how difficult this whole thing has been. Someone thought the settlement was fair. I'm happy she stuck it too them, frankly.

It's really only $27M, also. There's no way the stalker guy has $28M to pay her, and the jury found him 51% responsible. (The article I read quickly didn't mention joint and several liability here, but the way it was presented was that the Marriott franchisee was responsible for 27M.)

As far as should she give the money away - hell no. She's the one who suffered. That is what the money is for. I don't even understand the argument that she shouldn't keep all of it if she wants to. If she wants to give some away, good for her. But I notice people only think giving money away is a good idea when it is someone else involved and someone else's money.

I'm not sure if people are following my point.

I never said she should give the money away... I said, if she did, people wouldn't speculate about whether or not she was in it for the money.

She deserves money, she has been through hell, and I'm sure she's not lying. However, people will speculate.

Of course she's not going to care about what people think. But when an already "rich woman" (relative to average female salary), walks away with this much money, there will be dumbasses claiming she's trying to capitalize on the situation.

This in turn makes, said dumbasses, more likely to dismiss other similar cases.

I'm not talking about Erin Andrews here. I'm talking about how people will perceive this, and use this perception to make ill-informed judgments in the future.

That's why it's a "shitty situation". She deserves money, she should take the money, but by doing so, dumbasses are going to label this as a woman capitalizing on the situation.

There's really no perfect answer here. She did nothing wrong, but until people change, I don't see how these types of judgments will get any better.

Good for her. She was violated in a very public way and deserves to be compensated by them.

How much do you think a "regular person" would have received for this? I've heard of cases where ex-boyfriends put up images/videos of their exes online. Wonder what they would have received.

Obviously helps if you can sue a corporation instead of a loser ex-boyfriend.
