“He has history with Alabama because he committed to them a while back and I think that’s a school that he actually has in his heart,” Carlos said. “It’s not just him going to visit just to pass the time. He has them right there and he loves coach Saban and Coach Napier and they have a good relationship and he just waned to make sure that if he goes there that everything will be taken care of outside of football in terms of academics and his post-football career.”

Alabama has a plan for him to succeed both in football and in his desired major of engineering.

“They know how they will use him in terms of being a wide receiver and playing special teams, returning kicks and stuff like that,” Carlos said. “Everything about their engineering program is top-notch and we know it’s kind of hard to balance athletics, engineering and all that stuff but they have a plan for how to succeed as an athlete who is doing engineering at the same time.”

“They’ll let him run track and they know he’s a legitimate track guy,” Carlos said. “It’s not one of those things where he wants to run to stay in shape. He wants to run and try to compete with the best. They already have guys who run track like Tony Brown and Marlon Humphrey so he would be there right alongside them.”

“With Coach Saban he’s there until the end,” Carlos said. “He has a spot for Demetris, he loves him as a person and he said as a coach he said if that’s something you want to do, take the test again, he’s for that. He’s keeping a spot for him and he wants him there but he’s not pushing that envelope. He’s like, ‘hey, we’ll wait on you, buddy. We want you and you’re a high priority.’”

“We’re just sitting back and evaluating and all that good stuff,” Carlos Robertson said. “Now he’s wanting to go and take that test and see how it goes from there.”

“School-wise we pretty much have all the information we need,” Carlos said. “He wants to make sure he has all his ducks in a row. He doesn’t want to leave a stone unturned in making a decision and I think also his track and all that stuff is going to come into play.”

may not make a decision on his college choice until May.

“If that’s what it takes, we’ll probably go that route,” Carlos said. “But it could change. You never know, he might wake up one morning and be like I want to go ahead and get everything and get everything over with and that’s when we’ll make the announcement.”

I'm actually very interested in the LOI deadline.

If he goes past April Fool's Day, he can't sign a Letter of Intent. At that point, it's just financial aid paperwork, granting him his scholarship rights.

But without the LOI, he would then be able to transfer to any school he wants, without penalty, if he decided he didn't like the choice he made after a season. So basically, if it goes past April 1st, the schools still recruiting him are officially signing up for an unrestricted flight risk*. If he chooses ND and decides he doesn't like to play school, he can skedaddle to wherever he wants, and ND will really have to pull some sh*t to try and restrict the transfer.

This whole situation is/could be amazingly strange.

*By unrestricted flight risk, I mean that he could go to any school he wants, and the school he originally chooses wouldn't be able to do anything to block him. He would still have to sit out a season, I believe.

Once you're actually enrolled at the school and participating in the sport that fall then normal NCAA/conference bylaws apply. So there is a level of being bound to the school that is pretty close to what the NLOI provides. The difference between signing a NLOI and not after an athlete has stepped on campus really only applies to to that second semester. So basically, if you look to transfer in May, it doesn't matter if you signed a NLOI... if you look to transfer in December then it would matter... but either way you can still transfer with the same amount of eligibility left.

Transfer restrictions driven by the school/conference apply to all initial counters regardless of whether they signed a LOI. And having to sit out a year after transferring if you were a participant at another FBS school is an NCAA requirement for all counters.

So, in other words:

No NLOI: pre-enrollment = free // after participation = normal transfer rules (no extra penalty if transferring before completion of second semester)

NLOI: pre-enrollment = bound to school // after participation = still bound to school until completion of the academic year (i.e. two semesters)

Either way, they can get out after a season if they want to. The biggest difference in flight risk is in the up front period before they become a participant.

My takeaway is this is bad news for Stanford, which means good news for us. I think?

- He just told Rivals last week that track wouldn't be a factor and now it is? This gang cracks me up.

- Waiting all this time to OV to Stanford, to then use the last OV on UGA?

Can't script it much better than this.

I feel that our entire board would have moved on by now if this kid wasn't so good at football. Starting to feel like Eddie V or Isaiah McKenzie in many ways.

He got a pass for the longest time because of the supposed commitment to academics but I can't really take that seriously anymore with the Alabama situation. At this point you have to genuinely wonder what his motivations are. Will be happy if he is Irish but I don't see this ending well for us.

He was always going to visit Bama and UGA so this shouldn't surprise anyone

Let's see if he really wants to go to an academic school, him retaking the SAT all these times gives me some hope

The whole track thing was probably something he discussed with Saban, Hump and T. Brown when he was on his visit this past weekend. If he is serious about running track then I would think that helps Bama somewhat.

As far as Stanford, if he was that close on his last SAT test, then I can't blame him for wanting to take the test again. The last OV to Ga puzzles me however. If he does make the grade, then it would be much cheaper to unofficial to Ga and then OV to Stanford. But with this recruitment, I don't know if logic applies.

Up to now, I haven't seen any logic in this process.

Like Bama, I don't think this one gets cancelled. And I'll bet on that.

Come on, man. You know better than this. In your heart of hearts, do you really see him ending up here and not somewhere down south?

Maybe already asked, but is there any chance his scores were so low he couldn't even qualify at Bama or Georgia? And the whole ND-Stanford thing was to save face while he tries to get a minimum qualifying score?

Pretty sure it's been stated he's a full-go everywhere except for Stanford...Including ND.

Do you honestly believe in your heart of hearts that ALABAMA would turn down a player of Robertson's caliber? They've had illiterate players come through there lol

Then we're done.

What's funny is that if we rewind this thread to like fall 2015, that was the plan and that's why everyone thought he was going to the highest bidder among SEC schools.

So I guess the more things change, the more they stay the same.

Another chapter added to the script. Is she smart enough to get into Stanford? lol

I believe she's at Alabama A&M right now running track, but I'm not sure. Maybe she had been accepted there and isn't enrolled yet.

It'll be funny when not being able to get on the "family and friends" train has cost us two 5:s: players from Georgia lol

Another twist to the story comes in the form of Robertson’s sister Shanetris, who was originally supposed to early enroll for a track scholarship at Alabama A&M, but Carlos Robertson said the plan is for the two to attend the same school.

Five-star Demetris Robertson still hasn’t committed, but at least he has a final official visit set | | USA Today High School Sports

Seems like she is not enrolled yet.

This is his Sis' athletics profile
Shanetris Robertson - Stats

Personal Records
100m - 13.47
200m - 27.67
400m - 1:09.33
Long Jump - 15-2.75

Also she is very academic

Shanetris Robertson runs track, but also has an impeccable academic transcript. She took extra classes and graduated early from Dawson Christian in Newnan as the Valedictorian of her class.

Don't think this rivals the McKenzie recruitment yet, but it's getting close.

I cant believe we all have wasted so much time thinking and believing he may actually come here.
occams razor says all along, since the beginning, its a GA vs Bama battle...why do we do this to ourselves?
waiting for the day to log on and next to his name it says "16 GA ATH Demetrius Roberston (Alabama Commit)"... or Georgia.

This is sheer ignorance, but why are we still the crystal ball favorite for this kid?

When this guy signs with us, I'm done with recruiting. There is no logic. Just show me the roster of true freshman in the spring game and I'll find out who signed then. I know you guys will miss my film evals of prospects so I apologize for that.

.

Yea, I'm not sure that ever changed. It may have just taken longer.
