Oregon is the crazy one. The PAC schools and BYU know where every Pacific Islander / LDS prospect are in the country. Even in rural SW Michigan.

Reminds me of Kona Schwenke quite a bit, accept bigger at similar stages. Won't "wow" you with athleticism but will be a tough and physical presence inside. Kona was worth a scholarship over the years and would've been very valuable to the 2014 squad, should he had that 5 the year of eligibility. JMO.

You couldn't think of anyone... I mean anyone... that he reminded you of other than the last pacific islander at Notre Dame at his position? lolz

Berrien Springs football sucks. That is all.

Unless he's at a camp, you aren't going to be able to use film to know anything other than he may as well be Steven Paea playing in small school SW Michigan. He does what you'd think he would against 200lb opponents. I thought he looked better at OL than DL but he does look athletic compared to most HS DL. Can't argue with those PI genetics.

Interesting footnote about Paea... he grew up in Michigan. His parents moved there before he was born (I believe) so it's not like you are pulling a PI kid from Cali. He grew up in the snowbelt a half hour north of the Dome.

The D Zone: Berrien Springs monstrous Lineman Phillip Paea receives 3 big offers and much more to come

Does he have any relation to Stephen Paea of the Redskins?

Per rivals, they are "distant cousins".

He's lookin to come back on Feb. 28th for a basketball game. His HS coach is said to be a huge ND fan. He may also look to visit Oregon and BYU but those have not been set up yet.

You couldn't come up with anything more productive to post...anything at all, lolz.

On topic, when they have very similar body types, both are DT/OG's, and (yes) Pacific Islander I'm not sure why it'd be surprising. Especially considering that player was on campus fairly recently. He's fairly similar to Rochell but Rochell is a better athlete so I didn't like that comparison.

Ha. Zing.

Seriously though. There are hundreds of current and past DT/OG's that have similar profiles and/or play with the same style (he plays DT/OG afterall, how many styles are there really) and you pick the one guy that was our last Pacific Islander at his position.

It's just a pet peave of mine. Every time a player gets a profile posted, the very first thing someone does is "he reminds me [/insert last ND player with same size/race/position]". It's just a silly point to make with every single recruit.

That's the point of a player comparison. He reminds me of............

Are we supposed to compare players that are of different sizes, positions, and race? Because that sounds completely pointless.

This is a message board where that is going to happen, a lot, just like its going to happen on all message boards where they talk sports. Don't think that's changing anytime soon.

I thought the point of a player comparison was you know... how they play the game? I didn't know that it was about the color of their skin or what part of the world they come from.

It just seemed to me that we could have a higher level of discussion than just instantly calling every white WR a "poor man's Shark" or every short black QB a "Golson Clone". That's just bush league talk that you see in the comment section of ESPN. I'm not pointing at you directly, but rather the fact that it happens on every. single. profile. Why even waste the key strokes?

I think everyone could get by without the hot tip that next asian kicker reminds them of Yoon...

Like the fact that Kona is now an OG that was a DT at ND. Just like the discussion that is being had now by teams recruiting Phillip? It has more to do with race, nobody said it didn't but for whatever reason you can't let that go.

Just like your last 3 posts in this thread. IE could probably do without those but lets not get into that. We come to the board for some pretty pointless ND conversations, sorry Wooly, but you nor I make the rules. That's what the board is here for. If you don't like it then stop reading or we can continue to derail threads with your "pet peeves".

Where did I say "let's make an IE rule"? I just pointed out how it's annoying. It's a free world, people can post what they want under the rules. I have the same right to point it out as silly as well.

I don't feel that I derailed the thread whatsoever. I would argue that Paea would probably rather be evaluated on his skills instead of his skin color as well. For instance, his game and size is just as, if not more, comparable to a guy like Jay Hayes. Dare I say... a "poor man's Jay Hayes"?

Also... let's cool it on the "you can't let it go" crapola. If you really cared that much, you would simply quit responding and that would end the conversation as well.

What I find hilarious is that you are the only one that continues to talk about the color of his skin, yet its your pet peeve....

You quote a post that talks about position similarity and the reality is its not "hundreds" of players at ND but you talk about race.

And yes, posting in a recruits thread about "pet peeves" is what started this. I obviously had a part in this as well, as I've continue the back and forth. So I'll sign off on this.

Reports of MSU's death are greatly exaggerated.

who said anything about MSU's death? he was talking about recruiting battles.

MSU under Dantonio hasn't and doesn't make their living recruiting big-time prospects. They rarely if ever win those battles. In fact Dantonio's only landed a few of those type since he's been the head coach. Malik McDowell and Lawrence Thomas were both big-time Top 30ish national recruits out of Detroit. Donnie Corley is another one but he wasn't rated as highly as those guys. But that's about it as far as I can recall off the top of my head, and both went to MSU when Michigan was in the dumps. Detroit has historically fed it's top prospects to Michigan.

MSU/Dantonio has built their program by scouting/developing the 3*'s, and nobody does it better IMO.
