Are we really this optimistic?

I am not.

I am pretty confident at this point. I wish I was as confident about DRob, but Kelly is a much bigger need at this point and Johnson would be a nice consolation prize if DRob gets accepted to Stanford.

I am not.

This does not feel like one we win, historically. But right now the arrows appear to be pointing in the right direction. Might as well enjoy it. More fun than sweating decommits.

I mean I'll be ecstatic.

But, as stated.

Historically we've struck out here in recent past.

In yesteryear's past, we absolutely had him locked up at this point.

Let's hope we see in our lives the circle turn full.

loy had this to say---one poster said biggins had some positive stuff to say regarding Kelly and ND...loy responded with "Not going to link to other competing sites. However, trust me, no need to go elsewhere when it comes to this recruitment"

I mean, this is great and all, I'm really digging Loy's swagger on this one, BUT... WTF is he supposed to say, "My sources are no better than anyone else's. Go check them out too!"???

Don't forget Lizzie Seeberg, Lennay Kekua, and Kelly's purple face. Also the Inquisition. Might just be faster to denounce us as filthy papists and leave it at that.

We're not?

Wiltfong was interviewed by Bill King today. Wiltfong was asked about Caleb Kelly to ND.

Wiltfong said he thinks ND has a great shot and may have taken the lead. He said he's close to flipping his Crystal Ball but just wants to get a couple more pieces of information down the stretch yet.

Like wait until he announces?

Agree. I will be a very happy camper if we get him, but this seems to be like a lot of others where there was a favorite and we finally got neck and neck and then the bubble popped. Like playing your favorite video game. You get a new one, enjoy it for a while, get tired of it and back back to your tried and true.

Tiny detail - But Caleb Kelly isn't telling either staffs of his intentions until the actual announcement. This, per the GOAT.

BK is usually asked during the presser in the early afternoon if they are "done" and that will give us an indication if this is true or not.

If he knows by then. I assume they'll have a good idea, but based on what Loy said, the staffs will find out for certain during the announcement.

I don't really like or appreciate the attitude he has against his peer Notre Dame beat writers. They are supposed to be journalists and professionals. You don't see Wilfong or Sampson pulling bush move crap like that. That's why they are professionals. He has gotten better, but the guerilla journalism schtick is unbecoming of someone representing Notre Dame journalism, imo.

I'm guessing people wont be as stoked about his "swagger" once a spot opens up for Florida State and he dips out to become their insider. ha.

lets hope the ND office staff and interns don't royally screw up his commitment/moment in the sun if he, in fact, choses us (see Vanderdoes, Edward)...

Maybe that is a good sign. He is not telling anyone, so they can't screw it up and announce him for ND too early.

So i was chatting with someone close to the program last night, because he came to a bar my buddy owns. As he was leaving i talked with him for a few. Asked him some questions and he was VERY open about a lot.

I asked him about Caleb Kelly obviously, and i said "seems like its 50/50 with us and Oklahoma huh ?" and he laughed and said " id like to think its much better odds than that, i spent the day with him recently, out in Cali, and he just seems like hes an ND kid... i really like where we stand" and then gave me a smirk. I'm not saying AT ALL that this means Caleb will be ours, but i definitely like what he had to say, and the way he said it!! hahah

He went on to talk about a couple other recruits, which i can post under a different thread.

IMO, this is a very tough decision for him. By announcing on NSD, he doesn't continue to get pressured from the runner-up for the next couple of weeks if he were to tell them ahead of time.

some other good news is that oklahoma is having 2 PA juco linebackers ov'ing this weekend...1 already committed today before getting there...the other is likely to commit as well....it's crazy the juco has so many players that go div 1 there....however living in the area you HEAR NOTHING about anyone of them....they have 4 players offered or committed to oklahoma

Can someone comment on how Oklahoma could possibly be more attractive than ND for someone not remotely close to either school? If you're not planning to major in meteorology (for which Oklahoma has the best program in the nation, a fact I know because I am a weather geek), I don't get it.

What's the Fresno connection?

I believe its the city in California that he is from (Fresno), which is somewhat considered a "pipeline" to Oklahoma. (if there is such thing as a pipeline, DEFF not trying to start an argument over that term haha)

We've also been in the running for a bunch of kids from Fresno the last few years and we end up the bridesmaid every time.

It's more than that...there was a former Fresno coach who later became a GA at Oklahoma. Not sure if he is still at Oklahoma but he was the real connection between the two places.
