Didn't look too bad, certainly concussion related or precautionary. You could tell right away, because trainers came onto the field immediately and walked him off the field. I hope he'll be back after 2 weeks to recuperate.

Don't want to scare anyone on game day

But bk finally clarified the injury he had against sc and basically said it was minor shoulder numbness and he was cleared Monday to practice

He's good to go and hopefully he keeps playing well!!

Sure, I just dont see it going well, based on his play.

Shumate reminds me a lot of Antonio Allen from the Jets. Most of you probably have no idea who he is, but he was a safety that was good when given one individual to cover and/or play in the box. Solid contributor for a 7th round pick. However ask him to play any kind of traditional safety role and he's out of his element. Schumate could be a very nice role player on a lot of teams.

He's arguably been our best member of the secondary this year. Definitely the most consistent. I don't see any way he doesn't get a shot in the league.

Did you catch the Stanford game?

Specificially the 3rd down where he got to Hogan and just stopped instead of hitting him and he completed a pass for a 1st down?

I understand the point you are trying to make, but your hyperbole does Cole Luke a disservice.

Elijah had his moments. There were times he was awesome, and others, not so much. Separating out the corners, of the safeties with the exception of Drue Tranquil, he was pretty much near the top of the list.

Shumate and Jaylon are the 2 best tackelers on the team. ES was very rarely beaten in one on one situations that could have sprung for some very long gains.

Sergio has had value as a plus special teams player for a while. It's not a bad way to stay in the league.

I think Shumate was a bit better at safety than that, so IDK if I'd say he was "out of his element," but your description otherwise is spot on IMO. Shumate was at his best when he was playing STAR/nickle in 2012. He had one job: cover the inside receiver that moves through your zone. He did an amazing job when things were simple. His trail technique was exceptional for a guy that projected as a safety, and in fact he did it better than most upperclassmen at corner can do it.

It's a shame that we didn't have a bit more safety depth/better execution/communication. Elijah could have been a nightmare playing nickle if he got to do some of the things Farley got to do.

Yeah I think nickle might be his best position. But I don't know if he has the speed to play nickle in the nfl

I don't see how Weis was weird there? He rode the ND players, talked up Notre Dame and gave our guys a lot of 1 on 1 time. Do you think a random other coach would have done that? I think it's refreshing that Weis, as Shumate put it, still "really loves Notre Dame". Say what you want about him as a coach, but this article shed a good light on him, imo.

Weis SHOULD be talking up ND. He was on their payroll up until a couple weeks ago for the love of God lol

I just think that Elijah Shumate is a great guy. This article gave me, and I think most of you such a positive charge. I mean this article was infused with hopes for Elijah's success! It feels like this love for Shumate is boiling over and coloring Charlie in a good light.

Charlie could have used that when he was at South Bend. Ultimately, it was his 'assholishness' that got him the boot, wasn't it?

His defenses probably had a little to do with it as well...

Good stuff. Hope he blows it up at the combine now that he's got an invite.

With Weis the lack of defense and wins, were symptoms. Caused by bad breath or bad karma? Hmmm?

Unfortunately according to reports he has not had a good week at the shrine bowl practice and his stock is headed in the wrong direction.
