Saw Star Wars 7 and The Revenant in the last couple days. Thought SW7 was fantastic in about every way. The Revenant was good, and Leo's performance was great, but the movie labored a bit here and there. Tom Hardy, who is normally phenomenal, was pretty meh in this one.

Going to watch the H8ful 8 or Concussion tonight if I can stay awake a bit longer.

How did you see all those already? I didn't think Revanent was out yet?

I took your advice and watched The Revenant as well. You put it well on that one. I really like those type of movies, so I dug it, but I could easily see how someone wouldn't get into it.

I was Johah HIll super excited to see Tom Hardy as the bad guy. Super disappointed in that aspect. Leo was terrific though, and the movie was very intense overall. I'd give it a 7. SW7 I'd give and 8.5.

Got a new cloud drive (thanks mom) for Christmas. Going to start cleaning out my old drives and throwing all my current movie downloads on it. No timetable, but will give you access when I get it up.

Also crazy excited when I saw the news that Independence Day 2, Blade Runner 2, and another Indiana Jones movie is coming out.

Watching the Big Short. It's outstanding. Outstanding performances all around, especially Steve Carrell.

I saw The H8ful Eight in 70mm tonight. It's probably the best movie-going experience I've ever had. And that's even without...

Mr. Tarantino himself made a surprise appearance and did a Q&A afterwards. I was able to walk up to him, shake his hand, and thank him. It was pretty damn awesome.

Anybody who has a chance to see The H8ful Eight in 70mm and doesn't either doesn't like Tarantino's films or is doing a great disservice to himself.

Concussion was great. Will Smith's best performance in a while. Not sure how much was true to life and how much was exaggerated but it was on par with The Big Short for me. Both are "must see" movies. Now I'm going to watch Bridge of Spies.

I loved Bridge of Spies. But I'm a sucker for Tom Hanks

Sounds like an awesome experience. I saw the movie tonight and really loved it. If you like Tarantino you will like this movie.

After the movie was over I heard several people complaining including one lady say "it was the worst movie ever" and another complaining on how it made fun of the South (I live in Tennessee). Not sure what people are expecting. By now (8 movies in) you should know if you're the type of person that likes Tarantino movies. Oh well.

Just got back from a 70mm showing, and i second everything you said. Awesome experience that really should be more widely available. The intermission was so fun an unique and handled in a way that adds to the movie rather than pulling you out of it. The score was also on point.

I would recommend anyone drive as far as you have to to get to a 70mm showing. The theater closest to me was sold out when we arrived 30 minutes early, we had to bum around and wait for the next showing 3 hours later. Apparently that theater has sold out all 4 showings every day since it premiered. Thats insane!

I watched "Cobra" last night. It's really pretty entertaining. Nothing like an 80s action movie that can swing from jocular repartee to bloody mayhem in a snap. The action is pretty crisply directed and Stallone has some fun with his macho persona. And now I totally want a .45 with a cobra painted on the grip.

To tie in to Black Irish...I recently watched "Electric Boogaloo: The Wild, Untold Story of Cannon Films (2014) ". Anyone who watched cheesey 80s flix probably remember Cannon Group and Golan-Globus films.

They did a ton of movies, did them on the cheap, and a lot were bad....but I remember a lot of them fondly.

If you think of some of your fav 80s cheesey action...you can trace a large number to these guys. The funny part is the actors who were interviewed didn't have great things to say about them, but they showed up in multiple movies for them

I plan on watching "Electric Boogaloo" soon. It seems like Cannon/Golan-Globus made just about every action movie in the 80s.

I saw "The Hateful 8" last night in the 70mm format. It was good, but far from great. Tarantino let his self-indulgent nature get the best of him rather than using it too it's full advantage. I think the 70mm was wasted for most of the movie. It looked great for the exteriors, but didn't serve the rest of the movie too well that was heavy on interior shots in cramped, dingy settings.

The script was entertaining, but it felt too many times like the writer's equivalent of listening to someone who likes to hear himself talk. The performances were strong all around. Walton Goggins stole the show, and I hope he gets an Oscar nod. Ennio Morricone's score was great, and it's still stuck in my head. I think Tarantino could have notched up the tension in some areas. Letting the movie get too talky got things a bit off track when suspense should have been building. It's definitely worth seeing, especially if you like Tarantino's movies. But I think this one falls in the middle of the pack of his work.

I saw that last week. I really liked it, but agree it is nowhere near his best. I am a HUGE Tarantino fan, and here is my updated order of his greatness:
1.Pulp Fiction(my all time favorite movie)
2.Resevoir Dogs
3.Inglorious Basterds
4.Kill Bill
5.The H8ful Eight
7.Kill Bill Vol.2
8.Django Unchained
9.Jackie Brown

Just watched the Revenant. Good, but "torture porn" is a totally fair critique.

Watched Hateful Eight over the weekend (not in 70mm) and I didn't think it was one of Tarantino's better movies.

It turned out to be very predictable. I wish they didn't cast Channing Tatum for that role because I was constantly wondering when he would show up.

That being said it's a good movie, but I'd put it towards the end of the eight Tarantino flicks. Lots of good scenes and dialogue was excellent, per usual.

Big Short is a good movie with great acting, but should not have been nominated for film of the year. Same goes for Mad Max
