Currently 41 in SB so it's not all bad. I'm going out on a limb and say we've got a 3.756% chance to land him. You can hold my feet to the fire on this one.

Quickly show him everything on campus today while it's warm then get him downtown (Chicago) before the cold front comes through. When he gets out of the car at the W and it's like -5 tell him it's always colder on that side of the lake. Take him to Gino's East for a pie then drop him, the two cheerleaders and the bagman off at the Aragon Brawlroom for the G-Eazy concert.

...and that's why I get paid the big bucks.

I only went there one time in the 35 years I lived in Chicagoland. I just used it because it's the touristy one that board members would know. On the other hand, been to Lou's 386 times and I remember each time with great pleasure.

This thread just reminded me why Orange County sucks.

Yet a tremendous amount of those players don't become teachers and/or coaches so just how effective something like that would be is debatable. The bigger effect, and why it is so hard to pull players from the South is much more simpler. They grow up watching these teams play, they attend games, they see it, read it, smell it, 24/7. Plus they attend the camps, meet current players and coaches, and they are likely generational fans within their families. And while we sometimes laugh at weather, it is a huge factor as well. Distance from home... on and on.

As far as getting in to a HS in Bama to recruit a kid, that is becoming more and more available to coaches outside the state. HS coaches, and I know several of them, will do as much as they can to assist their players in getting college scholarships. Even if it means that a team outside the South is interested. It is just so much harder for a Harbaugh or a Kelly to walk in to Hoover or Prattville and convince a kid to play for them over Bama/Auburn/ Fla/Ga, etc. Harbaugh has made some ground with his camp last season, but until he pulls the five stars instead of the three stars I just don't see it changing that much.

First let me say, there have been some great, humorous, and well thought out posts in this thread. And a couple of pieces of crap, too.

This in neither. Just my old buddy, spoutin' off. (I still can't get over him trying to steal the T-Town moniker from Toledo! Who the eff ever heard of Tuscaloosa, other than a Groucho Marx joke, and one highway sign on I-65 in Alabama, (ramble damn.)

To my point, as far as my above mentioned post, I knew a family that raised pigs, and these same things could also be said of them. However, several of the kids did actually leave that fine vocation for a different life. Who'd figure?

(Got'cha! good!)

PS. Only in Alabama, with the education system you have so glowingly described is it "much more simpler."

And weather is a factor especially if you are covered in pig shit!

Double booyah!

I'm not typically a pessimist but I literally don't even care what any updates say. I don't care about the typical "really opened his eyes" updates. This kid is just flat out not coming to ND and dad really isn't trying to hide that.

Looking forward to the obligatory "academics are important" statement.

Manti Te'o fully expected to continue USC's epic run of linebackers only to blaze his own path and head to ND...

It really broke Mr. Te'o's heart that his son didn't stay in Los Angeles and play for his in-state alma mater.

Hopefully he got to stay until this morning and see the snow... Cold without snow sucks, especially for a southern kid

I think ND has a better shot than most people think. If he wasn't interested he wouldn't have called Manti.

I'm sorry.......YAWN.

I'm glad he enjoyed the visit. Who in their right mind wouldn't? ND has a beautiful campus and he got the undivided attention of all personnel. It's just not going to happen in this case. Kuddos to staff, especially Denson for their hard work and persistence.

Also, Mom didn't make the trip.

What was a 1% chance is now a 7% chance.... He is going to Bama, I'm sure he enjoyed himself and what kid wouldn't want a chance to speak to Jaylon and Teo if given the oppertunity.

This one I will truly not get excited about. It's really good work to get him on campus but like Jerboski said our chances might have increased but not to a level that we should be optimistic.

If you want to make the CFB playoff you are going to have to reel in a few badass mother fuckers in each class. Nobody has ever won a National Championship with a class full of 'RKGs'. So when a kid is both it is imperative that ND go all out to get him. Glad that got him on campus, and hopefully he chooses the Irish in the end. If not, there's nothing to be bitter about. Chances were slim to none in the first place.

It's a win no matter what IMO. Getting this kid on campus, having Tillery host him (obvious similar backgrounds), Asmar host him, who appears to be heading into the spot vacated by Jaylon, and all the individual attention one recruit could have.... Speaking with Manti most likely about culture and weather differences.... Not much else one could do.

Don't do this to us. Should have just said it was a 3/10 and dropped us now so we don't get excited.

He could have committed here this weekend and you still wouldn't be able to convince me he's coming here.
