I think that failing one criteria should not disqualify a person completely. I think that those guys who fail one criteria (Jerome Bettis is NOT an ND graduate; Ricky Watters and Tony Brooks were each suspended for one game) should be able to be voted upon, but should be required to have a higher percentage of votes. So if the standard for those who meet all of the criteria is 65% of the vote, then make those who fail one(and only one) of the criteria require 85% of the vote.

Decent idea but logistic nightmare. Jerome also is taking classes to get his degree from what I've heard. Also I assumed we are only doing this for players who played under BK.

What happens if we decide on a 75 vote minimum requirement and that never happens? Are there even 75 people that are active enough to see a poll that is only up 48 hours?

It's either/or

Either the poll is open for 48 hours and it doesn't matter how many people vote or the minimum requirement is 75.

If 75 people do not vote then the person does not get the designation.

It looks like the "one week" option will win so the poll will just be open for one week and that's the end of that.

In that case, as pointless as it was already going to be; it was at least going to stir some interest in strolling down memory lane. If we are limiting it to the last 5 years, then I vote we create the Cosmopolitan Magazine forum for Quick Hits and Notre Dame Men....

This is my concern. What if NONE of them ever get to that number simply because there aren't enough active users.

How many people typically vote in the IE awards polls? I would guess it's going to be very similar numbers.

It's not going to be an issue. The "One week" vote is dominating right now.

I voted that you don't need a degree and that suspensions shouldn't disqualify you.

You could create the perfect student-athlete in a laboratory and send him to ND. If that perfect SA, the quintessential Notre Dame Man, is guaranteed to be a first rounder and leaves early, he shouldn't be disqualified from our Hall of Fame.

Additionally, it is entirely possible that a player comes along who got suspended for a game as a freshman, and then proceeds to mature into everything that you want to see from a Notre Dame athlete after learning from his mistake. That shouldn't be a disqualifier either.

love my IE brothers so please don't take this the wrong way, but honestly, who the hell are we/you to decide who is and who isn't a "Notre Dame Man"?

I agree that there shouldn't be disqualifiers. Cierre Wood got his degree. Jaylon didn't. I don't think CW would come close to beating him out in a vote. Rees/Floyd both were arrested. Hendrix/Goodman were not. I don't think many would say Hendrix/Goodman are more worthy than Rees/Floyd.

Like it or not, Notre Dame Man is a thing on IE...this is at least a better system then just seeing if a mod will edit a thread name or not after a player graduates or goes to the NFL.

Another suggestion: we also have so many options in this poll, that I think the top two answers for each category should be polled again so say if I chose 85% for the minimum votes required, I could choose again between 90% and 75% or whatever the two highest are.

Think of this as preliminaries before our final polling if you will.

When are the ENVYs?

Idk but last years ENVYs were a clusterfuck. For some reason none of the threads showed up on the front page so i missed all of the nominating and only found them on like the last day of voting. The IE awards is one of my favorite events on here every year, they should be visible so as many people as possible participate.

It should NOT be open to the public, simply bc of trolls. You should at least be a member or have to sign up to cat your vote IMHO (unless I am misunderstanding he question).

I am thinking the meaning is whether to make the votes seen by everyone or not. Of course only members can vote.

Not sure is discussed, but can we specify if suspension just involves academic suspension or does "violation of team rules" also apply (i.e. KVR vs Redfield)?

Yes, it means you can see how everyone voted. Sorry if that was confusing.

It looks like as of now players may not be nominated if they did not obtain an undergraduate degree from Notre Dame and/or were suspended for any reason for at least one game.

If the vote was closer I would be inclined to allow their nomination but it's pretty one-sided at this point.

That's crazy to me.

The fact that Jaylon Smith can't be nominated is just ridiculous.

I don't think it's ridiculous. A lot of people place a high level on importance on getting a degree. I mean we spend hours and hours talking about why ND > ____ school because of the degree.

Does suspended mean suspended from school or suspended from playing?

Like Tuitt missed one game due to not going to class or whatever. Would that automatically eliminate a player from consideration?
