Jaylon is a Notre Dame man. Just because he is smart and going to get his money does not make him lesser. He has recruited for notre dame and players want to come to Notre Dame because of him.

Not saying this needs to be a prerequisite, but Davidson won't retire Steph Curry's number until he graduates...

Actually a big fan of this. Sends a good message, and a lot of athletes end up getting the degree so it's not really an insult to anyone.

Did anyone else get a weird vibe from this? He mentioned ND very briefly. Don't think he mentioned the coaches or players and wore a high school hoodie. Probably making something out of nothing but was wondering if I was the only one.

When informing a fellow ND fan of Jaylon's announcement, I said the same thing. I had only watched the video once so I thought maybe I overlooked it. I also was thinking since this was so informal maybe he plans on doing something more formal at UND.

I read somewhere that it's the same shirt he wore when he committed to ND.

I interpreted the entire video as being directed to the home folks. Not a slight, just a specific, intended audience for that.

I think it was the same hoodie he wore when he announced for ND.

I didn't want to be the first to say anything about that video but I found it a bit odd too. A missed PR opp for the University at the least. I also find it interesting that he hasn't announced who will represent him. You'd think it would be Eugene Parker and Roosevelt Barnes who are both from Fort Wayne. Eugene is a Crusader too, got his JD there. Used to play pick up with him when I was a wee lad in high school. My college teammate worked at his agency and was the agent for Charlie Ward and Bonzi Wells.

Those guys and FW are in the midst of a nice run of athletic talent. Starting with Eifert (who they don't represent). Jaylon, who you'd think they would, basketball All Americans James Blackmon Jr from IU, Caleb Swanigan of Purdue (who Barnes is the guardian of) and then Mack and Robertson this year. I'll add Tranquill too because he's gonna play at the next level dammit!

I can't believe how so many posters on this board try to read something into every little thing.

Mel Kiper still has him in the top 20 overall in his NFL mock draft and going to the Jets. Says a lot about Smith's abilities and talent. Would be scary to see him play LB on that Jets defense.

He's the best pure LB- meaning non 3-4 OLB/DE type- to come out in a very long time. Dare I say since Patrick Willis back in 2007? I certainly think so. He was a top 3 pick before the knee injury. Whoever gets him in the mid to late 1st is getting a steal.

If my Jets can pick up someone with the ability to close on the QB in pass rushing and cover Gronk, watch out NFL.

Agree best linebacker to come out since Willis, although keuchly may lay claim to that. So best linebacker to come out since Kuechly? Definitely the most athletic since Willis.

I sincerely want my Cowboys to trade back to the late 1st and draft him. I think any team that doesn't need a lot of help right now, its a no brainer. We all know he's going to treat this knee injury like Gurley did and then go beast mode of the NFL.

Gurley was still drafted in the top 10!

Every knee injury and recovery is different. If the doctors told me Smith's knee was going to be good, I'd take him top 5 if I was picking. He's easily one of the top 5 players in this draft.

There's 3 guys in this draft that I think are SURE fire high level starters. Joey Bosa, Jaylon Smith, and Vernon Hargreaves. Everybody else is a crap shoot, just like any other draft.

I have a high pick, I'm taking one of those 3. I'd take Smith even with the knee injury. Might miss half the year, but when he's healthy he'll be an instant starter with huge upside.

Do we get Jaylon if he falls to us? Absolutely. Do we trade away the house to get him at #5? No way

I think a perfect pass rushing LB the steelers could get in the third round is Dadi Nicholas. Fits them perfectly. He would be the replacement to the other former VA Tech player who retired early

Nah, Cincinnati needs to draft him and put him opposite Burfict to balance the emotional volatility on the field.

Come on guys. We all know the 49ers are drafting him at 7 to play next to Bowman and be the next Patric Willis.

you could have the Dalai Lama and Mahatma Gandhi playing either side of Burfict as OLB's and he'd still play wreckless football

If only. Also hoping they trade into the late 1st round to grab Fuller.

*fingers crossed*
