Yes I am serious. If you are a huge fan, that's awesome. I'm talking about the "crushed fans" who probably know him as the Ground Control to Major Tom song guy.

Who are you to tell them that they aren't big enough of a fan or that Bowie's impact on them wasn't enough for them to note?

Even if someone is on facebook and the only song they know is "Space Oddity" (That's "major Tom", btw... hope you weren't posting on fb ), you still don't have the right to tell them that Bowie wasn't important to them. Maybe their first kiss with their wife was with that song playing, maybe Labrynth was their child's favorite movie, whatever the reason... it's incredibly judgemental to act like you know their feelings better than they do.

Very sad indeed! I had the pleasure of seeing him in the 80's in Anaheim. Still in my top 3 shows of all time. Every Christmas I re-watch his and Bing Crosby's version of Little Drummer Boy. Truly a classic.

He would often adopt different personas on stage but his "Ziggy Stardust" persona took over his real life and he basically became Ziggy for a few years before coming back to reality.

Same. Big fan of Queen, this is how I was actually introduced to David Bowie. I'm not honestly a big fan of Bowie himself, but I appreciate some of his work and it's always sad when an artist of this caliber passes on.

This is my second favorite collaboration he ever did. I know Christmas just passed, but this is one of my favorite Christmas songs.

Sad day for music fans. He was a groundbreaking performer and quite an accomplished actor, as well. I believe he starred on the Broadway version of the Elephant Man.

I love some of his music (Under Pressure, Modern Love, etc.), and hope he rests in peace. I agree its a sad day for music lovers.

As for his transcendent impact on the culture, we need to get real. Rock & Roll is mostly self-important BS. It takes itself way too seriously and glosses over the obvious profit motive and narcisism. Early Bowie was a showman and, as he freely admits, got caught up in his own vices. He wasn't some guru or philosopher. You may love him, he may speak to you, but he was what he was. I hope Ziggy Stardust didn't have too much of an impact on anyone.

I was deeply saddened when I heard the news this morning. I have loved Bowie's music since the early/mid-70s. The man was a brilliant songwriter and performer. There will never be another one like him.

just got home from the morning workout, and this video was playing on Paladia (love that channel) in the garage.

if you (meaning all of you, not NDFan4Life) are interested in his life, wiki is not a bad place to get you going. divides his music periods up satisfactorily (always appreciated his "soul/funk" periods, but really became a fan in the early 80s when he dropped under pressure and followed it up with him new-wave era). his religious views and sexuality are not as cut and dry as most think.
