The best thing that happened this year was EG leaving. Without that, MZ goes down and we probably never get to see how good Kizer is, maybe ever.

You want to pick nits about the broad definition of 'hate'? I didn't actually use that word by the way, but like VDP, I thought in the context of about 10 posts that's enough mud being thrown at Golson for my liking.

You think it's all above board and fair game. I disagree, EG deserves better.

This wasn't anything outrageously out of line but it's still petty in mind to say some of that stuff about Golson. Why anyone would get that upset about pointing this out?

Based on the ones you've selected, I don't see a lot of hate. The ones about forgetting him seem a little petty, so I'll give you that, but he wasn't a good leader, he did have a great arm, and he was average at other QB attributes. Not seeing the big deal.

I don't know. Golson certainly was never a world beater, but ND would not have beaten Pitt in 2012 without him. He also had a number of other good moments that year and probably played the best out of anyone vs. Alabama.

I disagree that we don't beat Pitt in 2012 without him. I'm not saying we definitely win, but the same people that say we don't beat Pitt in 2012 without him will say that we don't beat Stanford in 2014 without Golson. Both statements aren't a certainty because much of the reason we struggled in both games offensively was Golson's inconsistency. While the offense as a whole struggled in both games, Golson was a major factor why we weren't scoring points. In both games he had to create last minute heroics to win the game in part because of prior inconsistencies in the first 3 quarters.

Ultimately we can't really say we DO win either game without him, but you can't say we don't win if Tommy or Zaire was in either because both would have played very differently across 4 quarters.

Rees was also a major factor when he threw an INT. and EG got put back in late against Pitt. My basic point is the guy was our QB when we went undefeated and made it to the NCG. Then played well vs. Bama while our D got crushed. That's okay in my book. Could have been better, but still good in my book.

How can you be a major factor when we were struggling all game offensively and Tommy was barely in for 1 full series? Rees got inserted cold off the bench once again after playing 2nd string all season. It's amazing he led the comebacks that he did in 2012 given the lack of reps. Rees only got inserted into Pitt in the first place because Golson was struggling again. Ultimately it was a good move, because sitting on the sidelines for a series probably let Everett get his head back in the game, he came out better in the 4th and OT...at least making plays with his feet. We had 6 points on the board going into the 4th quarter...that's fuckin' awful and a large part of it was on Everett's shoulders. We should have not have needed overtime heroics to beat Pitt in that game.

Yeah he struggled. But he is also a major reason ND won in a comeback. You can play what if all day. Maybe Rees starts that game and we win by 3 TDs. Maybe we lose by 3 TDs. Whatever.

I agree, the what ifs can go all day. That's why I'm saying maybe we win 2012 Pitt without Everett, simply because he was a big reason we had just 6 points on the board going into the 4th. Give me consistent QB play all day as oppose to uneven, late game heroics.

Isn't playing in the Peach Bowl due to a "personal issue."

Matt Fortuna reporting he was told it was due to a death in the family.

All things said, he had one hell of a college football experience and walks away with an ND degree on top of it.

Well played EG, well played in deed.

Who cares he gave on ND. Best move he made for the team to give Zaire and Kizer a shot.

The family death happened over a week ago. If he was the starter, do we really think he would sit this out?

From the outside, knowing the time of death and the way Golson has handled adversity in his playing career, I have very little doubt that more to do with him not being a starter than him grieving IMHO.

So he should be over the loss in a week?

Glad to see you know the mind set of all these different football players.
Who said he was ever going to start the bowl game anyway?

GL EV and make some $$$ with that ND degree.

Agreed.

It's a shame he couldn't have bit the bullet and hung tough.

I'm sure Malik would have taken some reps from him undoubtedly this last year, but he would have certainly played.

On the flip side knowing what I know now, I'd never trade Kizer for him.

You should really, REALLY try better to comprehend what people write. Or go to school or something.

I mean, NOBODY said he was going to be the starter, least of all me. Where the hell do you even come up with this stuff?

I'm not even going to waste any more time trying to rebut what you wrote, as it is so far off of what I said, that explaining it to you would be a waste of time anyway because it would fly right over your head.

I know you're still pissed that you were rightfully temporarily banned years ago, but if you're gonna come at me, pick a better spot. Do better next time.

Guess you like bad mouthing ND grads...that's two in one thread.

What a weak argument. The comment was do you know his mindset.

Not pissed at all about the ban. I just consider the source. I post once in a blue moon so a ban sure didnt bother me. Site is still there for me to view.

Lol. It didn't bother you yet you've only brought it up about 10 times since. And seeing as how you only post "once in a blue moon", that's a lot of complaining for someone that didn't care about it.

Again, it's comical how pathetically you misconstrued my post, especially the part about me saying he'd start. No words for to accurately portray how off you were.

I won't even comment on your claim of graduating from ND, other than to say I went to Oxford.

Keep it classy ND.

Keep ripping on ND grads while sticking up for kids who had no chance of gettting an offer from ND.
