I understand the USC location is hard to beat and the women, but how can USC keep pulling these top level athletes when they see Kelly do more with less here in South Bend.

Fuller was something like the #143 best WR (I think that number is correct). Give Kelly a Juju or Agholar or Adoree and I seriously believe he'd be torching teams. Any quality receiver he's had, he's used them to their utmost.

Floyd, Eifert, TJ Jones/Riddick, Fuller and we've managed to have a quality run game most years, sometimes top-25 in production. We have a top OL to block for them as well. I really hope we can swing Demetris this way, he's our one chance at that type of speed.

You answered your own question.

Many recruits care only about getting to the NFL and it's not like JuJu and Adoree haven't torched teams while they have been at USC. USC always puts out top 20 picks.

I think Juju is the 2nd best WR in the country behind Tredwell. Small asterick because I don't watch BIG 12 football, but I doubt that Dotson or Coleman are better. Juju is a beast and is so physical.

I mostly agree with you. As far as Alloway goes, he is definitely fast but that's really the only thing that all impressed me on his film. I'd take him if we somehow ended up with an extra spot in the class or if the coaching staff really thought it was a huge position of need.

Interesting. I thought he looked slow as all hell on highlights. Looks he has Riddick's lack of top-end speed, but without any of the juking ability.

As far as Javon McKinley goes, the Huskies are in the final thick of things between the Ducks and Notre Dame. He's already visited Seattle and had a great trip, but from what we've gathered Jonathan Smith has become the point-man here due to the firing of Brent Pease. It's been believed that the Ducks would land this receiver but Washington has a great shot. We don't believe he'll go all the way to South Bend. Huskies chance:40%

lol it's almost not worth reading any of the non-national analyst updates. Oregon has him leaning there, Washington there, ND there...

Gotta give the fanbase hope and keep them coming back to the site for updates.

I personally use I.E. For my recruiting updates, you guys do a great job posting relevant material and keep it funny with humor.

With the uncertainty of Robertson and McKinley, I'll never understand why we didn't push harder for Marquez Callaway.

If this class doesn't fill up, Marquez will be one of the first recruits that comes to mind that I'll consider a miss.

I honestly believe this will be the first time in a while that we will be turning away some decent talent come NSD.

Didn't the staff just not have a high opinion of Calloway?

I'm not sure that staff will take a body simply because they have a spot open. They might carry it over to next year if it fits within the guidelines.

That's not what my post suggested.

Callaway is 4-star, 6'2" 180# athlete from Georgia, with a great offer list, and Army All-American invite. This kid isn't just a body to fill a roster spot. He camped at ND and there were mixed reports between media attendees. Some raved about him and others said the coaches just don't see a natural WR or a DB who's physical enough. Callaway, at one point, told people that he loved ND and they were his #1 but the staff apparently didn't see a fit and had others higher on the board.

BK has earned his reputation for talent evaluation but he's not incapable of making mistakes in recruiting. They had others higher on the board, that's fine. But what I'm saying is IF they miss on those guys (ie. Javon, since this is his thread), Marquez should be getting a phone call. Just my opinion.

When I first read this I had to fly back to re-read it. I thought it said 'home invasion!'

Freudian dyslexic slyp, I believe!

Does anyone have stats on when a certain area is deep at a position, like wide receiver, or even quarterback? In that, is there a higher or lower probability of one of those prospects being a breakout star, or a bust?

I have wondered for a long time if ND doesn't make a living in a particular recruiting area based upon the bounty, as it swings in natural cycles. And I wonder if that is why we have 'problems with recruits from X area at Y position?'

Because LAX is right, all you have to do is look back to Evans and who knows who else. I am wondering if there is a way of predicting that or eliminating it.

I think Javon is a hell of a high school football player and one of the best players to play HS ball in California in recent years. I mean he is 175ish yards away from accomplishing 5,000 total yards for his career, which could easily be done Friday night.

However, my worry with Javon is where is his ceiling? He isn't going to get much faster or bigger with his frame. I know he has battled nagging injuries from the spring through now, but his route running hasn't taken a step forward from last year. He is a hell of an athlete with that said, but it's a matter of if he has tapped out physically. That's not saying he can't be a good football player if he is tapped out, but its a small concern.

There has been a lack of success with California kids having success at Notre Dame and I think it simply is due to being far away from home. There is an added level of not being comfortable in addition to being a freshman in college. I am not saying kids don't get over that, but Notre Dame is completely different than the SoCal atmosphere Notre Dame is trying to tap into.

I would personally side with it being a battle between Washington and Notre Dame for McKinley.

He is kind of like Fuller. He is a good athlete, but not an elite athlete. It's hard to project his position at the next level.

I would have personally taken him, because he looked great in the times I saw him in person, but that's also why I don't get paid to make decision that have an impact on 105 players.

Yeah I really liked him. We could miss on a few guys and get back in the game for him.

I agree with a lot of this. He doesn't blow me away looking at him run in the open or he doesn't me away in the crispness of his routes but what does blow me away is he is position to catch every ball thrown his way, he catches everything with his hands away from his body even when a DB is in great position and most importantly, he explodes down field after the catch. There is no Corey Robinson in his game, it's more Golden Tate or Michael Floyd... catch and attack, get the YAC. Lastly, he does it against 3, 4 and 5 start DB's every night on his schedule and practices against FIVE 3 & 4 star DB's in practice everyday Add to that somehow he finds time to be a great blocker.

Rodney Peete called him the next Dez Bryant. Better than JuJu Smith, better than Tyler Vaughns. I agree with you, I don't know what his ceiling is but if all he becomes is a better Chris Brown, I'll take that.

IMO, the question is whether he is going to be an outstanding Pro, there is no question he is going to be an outstanding high school football player.
