Are any prospects on that list s.o.l. if someone else commits (other than for total scholly reasons)?

Today is the start of the dead period correct? Do any of these guys have a decision date set during the dead period other than Studstill and McCulloch?

As of now it doesn't sound like it but I could see Pride getting left out if say, he really wants to take 3 more OV's and we get Studstill, Hamlin, and Long before that. Chances of that happening are low but I could see him left out in that scenario.

What date is McCulloch supposed to announce?

Sounds like he's making his initial decision January 2nd at the UA game, but will take visits after. In other words, he's planning on committing to us, then torturing us until signing day. Or he's planning on committing somewhere else, and then torturing us until signing day.

Do we actually think he's committing to us? I kind of crossed this guy off but haven't really followed.

He's saying that now and maybe its true but I'm not 100% certain this is what happens unless he commits to A&M and then visits afterwards. I think he feels a lot of pressure to stay home and play ball but doesn't necessarily want to. I think thats why he is cancelling visits last minute and saying he'll take them in the future without actually scheduling them. JMO at the moment.

That makes more sense than committing only to take visits elsewhere. I feel bad for some of these kids who are probably hearing it every day from classmates, coaches, parents of friends, etc. pressuring them to go to the local school when the kid has his eyes set on something better. A family friend of mine is transferring to IMG next semester for precisely this reason.

Ironman had a really good breakdown of the situation in McCulloch's thread.

How would you guys rank Long, Fuller, Hamlin, Studstill, and Pride in terms of want? Think they are all pretty damn good

Irish Illustrated Podcast answer:

Tier 1: Hamlin (top corner), Fuller, Studstill (top safety)

Tier 2: Pride, Burton, Long (noted that the gap between tier 1 and 2 is not significant). All very talented, obviously.

Updated all names following Studstill going public. Removed some names from the board and shifted some guys around. McCulloch is the hardest one to peg.

We probably want 1 more CB, 1 LB, and 1 WR at minimum. Those I would consider "needs"... after that, I expect us to simply try to take the best players we can get and try to keep holding on to this current group. With Notre Dame, usually there are at least 1 or 2 academic casualties every year so be ready for those to rear their ugly head at any moment.

Meaning because it usually happens, I've only heard of two guys that might have problems in this class and I don't think either is in dire straights. Then again, you have guys like Bo Wallace and Nile Sykes that come out of nowhere and completely shock everyone.

This may be a loaded question but I'll ask anyway. Are these guys that are highly regarded enough that the loss would send the board into melt down mode?

So, Loy is saying that we are only taking one of Pride/Hamlin and that is why Pride hasn't committed yet. This is a change from what I've heard before but if true, I don't agree with the strategy. They must feel really good about Hamlin.

So in basically Pride would be ND right now but the staff is telling him they won't accept his commitment right now? So when Hamlin chooses another school we won't end up with either.

I don't like this at all. Let's hope everything works out. Surprised we wouldn't accept both unless we are going to be crunching numbers with our 5-6 remaining spots.

Disagree that this is happening. I don't think Loy is "wrong," per se, but I don't think he phrased that correctly. In the OP of this thread, it says that we want 1 CB, 1 WR, and 1 LB + 2-3 "best available" types.

If you assume that we land Hamlin, Jones, and McKinley, the question becomes who are the remaining "best available" types? You have to hope they are A-list guys. Guys like McCulloch, Kelly, and Robertson. Are those guys realistic? Probably not.

So then who do you want between Ferns, Pride, Long, Fuller, etc? It becomes tough questions. That's why I agree with Loy that the staff will pause on taking Pride if they have Hamlin, but I do not think phrasing it as purely "one or the other" is necessarily correct.

Yea, with 5 spots left and some talk of over signing I'm no sure how we get there without Pride but I'm going to trust the staff in this one.

I think if you asked the staff what is their IDEAL finish for a 5 person class it would be Hamlin, Kelly, McCulloch, McKinley, Robertson. What I think realistically is going to happen is that you're going to get Hamlin, Jones, McKinley... and then probably one of Ferns/Kelly/McCulloch, and one of Pride/Fuller/Long. Which is still fantastic.

That makes sense, Lax. And yea, I'd be elated with that finish. Maybe a better way of taking this is their confidence in Hamlin.

Are the names we have the only ones we will hear for the rest of the process? Or is it possible that the staff is working on some guys under the radar?

That would definitely be the best ND finish that I've seen in recruiting.

That would be a grand slam finish. I would rather have Hamlin and Long than Fuller, but can't complain at all.
