Strongly considering dropping $90 on the digital collection right now so I can watch them on a loop at work before Friday. Gonna try to see it Friday morning at 10am. I don't think the crowd will be too bad in my area at that point.

Bro what the hell? How was that not a spoiler?

Edit nvm. I scanned to the end

There's really no way to explain that it's not a spoiler without ruining the point of the video lol.

And the grammar in the opening scroll was just atrocious. I knew something was up immediately.

No spoilers: Rewatching the original trilogy, I'm pretty convinced that Luke is Kylo Ren.

Only a fully trained Jedi Knight, with the Force as his ally, will conquer Vader and his emperor. If you end your training now... if you choose the quick and easy path as Vader did... you will become an agent of evil.

Well once it appeared to be somewhat serious I didn't read the information and just scrolled through the video so I wasn't spoiled. That's why I was confused damnit.

From a review:

To talk about Ford in specifics would be criminal, as there is so much here that’s best left discovered. But to speak generally, “The Force Awakens” was created by people with a thorough understanding of what people love about Harrison Ford in this role — his irreverence, his grumpiness, his lack of showy heroism, his infinite capacity to be annoyed. Ford is everything in this film that a “Star Wars” fan could want him to be. Even if the film were only so-so, “The Force Awakens” would be worth seeing for Ford alone.

If you're saying that with actual knowledge, then GTFO with spoilers.

LOL. Are you counting the previews as spoilers? In one of the previews Kylo Ren takes off his helmet and it is Adam Driver (the person listed on the cast list as Kylo Ren). I don't consider the TV previews to be spoilers.

We are a little over a week away people.

I propose that we agree on one of two things:

A) Create a new thread for reactions to the movie that permits any and all spoilers.

OR

B) All bets are off if you enter this thread starting opening night.

I know I personally will not see it until next Saturday or Sunday (smh, I know). So I would prefer option A. What do you guys want?

Speaking of spoilers did we ever agree on how to handle it?

That's very exciting. Ford has really sucked in recent years so I was afraid that this might hurt the legacy of Solo.

Also they better make it so the Falcon‘s hyperdrive is consistently on the fritz. The fact that they are always fixing it mid-battle is half the charm of the ship

98% on Rotten Tomatoes right now. Would be the highest rated of all the Star Wars movies if it stays that high.

I think there is a recency bias on all of the rating websites. I take 98% to mean that it is a really, really, really good movie, but would not use it as a basis of comparison to the originals.

Agree. If this is even close to being as good as Empire I'll eat my hat. I hope it's a great entertaining movie, but Empire is arguably a top 10 film.

There are plenty of old movies that have close to 100% ratings so I don't think the critics are inherently biased towards newer movies.

But I agree that all this indicates is that it's a really good movie.

I disagree. The single negative review from a "top critic" is from some douchenozzle at Salon.com who specifically doesn't like it because it's not the originals. Also, the original trilogy is nowhere near as flawless as people like to remember.

A New Hope: Great initial set up, great climax, some pacing issues in the middle.

Return of the Jedi: Most flawed by far. Still a classic, but leans heavily on goodwill from the other movies. Ewoks are dumb. Bobba Fett got screwed.

Empire: A near perfect movie. Elevated the entire series and I would say the "Star Wars mania" still exists solely because this movie is so freaking good.

^THIS

It's an incredible story. Cool effects. Totally changed movie making. Amazing stuff and I love it.

But the dialogue is still dorky and labored. Lucas' strengths and weaknesses are all on display.

My point is that there is a tendency to have a knee-jerk "OMG best in the series" reaction after having just seen the movie. But, you need to wait a few months for the buzz to die down until you can make an objective comparison to the originals in terms of quality and cultural impact.

Case in point, tons of people saw Dark Knight, thought it was amazing, and went on IMDB and gave it a 10/10. It's now rated as the 4th best movie of all time, which is just absurd. Great movie, but not that good.

Dark Knight may not be 4th all time but it's in my top 15 for sure. It's nearly flawless IMO. As rewatchable as any non-comedy or Star Wars movie in recent memory, too.

Another good example is the Phantom Menace. Lots of people left the theatre saying "that was great" because it was Star Wars in a theatre. Then you rewatch it...

Really? Maggie Gylenhall is pretty awful, and it's hard to take it seriously as the 4th best movie of all time with Christian Bale's voice. I think it's close to average if not for an iconic performance by Ledger.
