Muschamp expected to sign as HC for SoCar. If my Facebook Fred is any indication... there are a bunch of people not happy..I would think Ray Tanner could do now wrong in these peoples eyes. Apparently he has done some wrong.

My Gamecock friends were hoping for Rich Rod rather than Muschamp. But hey, it will be fun to watch he and Dabo trading shots for a few years.

Pretty sure Florida buyout will still pay Muschamp for the next year or two. So the will basically be paying him to coach against them.

What if Muschamp actually does well this time?

I know McElwain looked like a hero this year, but that was until his team lost Grier at QB. Then they became completely inept on offense just like Muschamp's teams had been.

No way Florida finishes 10-3 with Muschamp at the helm in Gainesville. They probably would have lost to Vandy and might not have beaten FAU.

Hiring Muschamp is baffling. Muschamp does not have the temperament or the leadership ability to guide a big time CFB program. Would I want him as my DC? Yes. Would I want him as my HC? Hell no.

I'm surprised that Matt Rhule hasn't been hired by a better program. Makes me wonder if another shoe is yet to drop in the coaching ranks in the near future that we don't know about.

Muschamp may have the second highest income of all SEC coaches. Muschamp receives his entire remaining salary from Florida ($6.3 million) in equal payments over the next three years ($2.1 million per year). He became the highest paid coordinator when he signed with Auburn $1.6 million). At that time, considering the total of his buyout from Florida and his coordinator salary his salaries ranked just below Gus Malzahn's $4.1 million.

His buyout with Auburn would have been $1 million if he left prior to the SEC championship. He accepted South Carolina HC position today and owes Auburn nothing.

Assuming he gets Jim McElwain's salary of $3.5 million with South Carolina, his combined income from Florida and South Carolina would be $5.6 million, but could be more since he has HC experience. Spurrier made $4 million.

Kevin Sumlin is the second highest paid coach in the SEC at $5 million, but Muschamp's total payments exceed that.

Some programs have clauses that reduce buyouts by the amounts the ex-coach earns if he accepts a new position.

Details of Will Muschamp's $5.1 million contract lean heavily in Auburn defensive coordinator's favor | AL.com

Will Muschamp Will Still Receive Entire Buyout From Florida (after Auburn DC contract signed)

Factoring in his payout from Florida, Muschamp’s $3.7 million is higher than what all but 13 head coaches earned in 2014.

What possible nfl openings are there going to be. I can think of

San Diego
Tennessee
Miami
Possibly New Orleans
Possibly Detroit
Possibly Dallas

Anyone I'm missing?

Can't see Dallas letting Garrett go, but it is Jerry Jones, so you never know. Others I could see opening

Giants, Cleveland, Texans, Rams and Philly. I get the suspicion Chip is going to the Titans.

I think Jerry likes his coach but they Need to Draft a QB. Each season Romo gets hurt they need to get a young good back up that can soon take over.

Chip helped himself by beating the Pats though. And the NFC East is weak.

My opinion is only a super bowl keeps him there. I think the Philly market is too big and I don't see the QB situation getting better.

I am enjoying the total meltdown of the Gamecock fans over the hiring of Muschamp. We have been at a soccer tourney all weekend in Columbia and they are losing it over this hire.

I actually think he it's a good hire and he will do well. He is a great defensive mind and can recruit like mad. They don't call him flipper for nothing.

If he hires a good OC, look out. And I will hate that...

Their owner though isn't really like that though. He held on to McNabb for a long time and Andy Reid.

I think this is a Good hire because lets face it South Carolina doesn't expect the seasons Florida does or Bama, LSU, and all the other teams. It is a very Low Key job.

I am surprised he didn't look into the MD and Rutgers jobs. Descent talent in those areas and in a weaker division.

Yeah. If Muschamp gets himself an offense South Carolina could make some noise in that division. And unlike, say, Kirby Smart or the guy Mizzou hired, this isn't his first rodeo as a head coach.

No one I talked to is happy about Muschamp. The most favorable comment I have heard is to just give him a chance to see what can he do and that he is a good recruiter. Not glowing praise but Gamecock nation is not happy. That has to suck walking in to a position under fire already.

Muschamp fired everybody today. Elliot is the only one speculated to be retained as OL coach but may also be up for the ECU head coach spot.
