Is Charlie Strong getting fired? Or really considering leaving for Miami?

Apparently things aren't moving enough in the right direction. And I think he will be more comfortable at Miami.

I see the reasoning, but Texas is setting themselves up for disappointment. Barring a home run hire (which I don't see happening), Texas will not upgrade their coach.

This isn't the best year to be in the hunt for a coach. But I do believe Texas would be a top 3 or 4 job depends on what happens with the LSU job.

And Strong isn't recruiting Texas like they thought.

The more I think about it, the less sense it makes to me to part ways with Coach Strong. I think Texas will have a really hard time attracting the best coaches, just like last time. What exactly has changed from 2 years ago? Losing a bad AD? Strong purging the bad characters from the locker room? It just doesn't make sense to me.

Do you have an idea of who Texas is supposed to target for candidates?

Kirby Smart would be a good hire for South Carolina.

Didn't he turn down Auburn a few years ago?

Still praying that southern cal decides to offer their HC job to Ted Tollner, Paul Hackett, or even Tyrone Willingham.

Can't remember another time with so many major program vacancies. Will be an interesting off season for sure, with big ripple effects reverberating through the profession. Hope Kelly keeps his staff intact, consistency is a good thing.
Lots of potential changes abrew at several big programs where the fanbase is itchy...LSU, UT, Purdue, TAMU, UG, PSU, etal.

lots of big program vacancies but the pool of available coach's is small. Every year it seems there is a big time coach coming off a "year out" who then has their pick of the big time jobs. Does not seem to be the case this year. Perhaps the Eagles would fire Chip Kelly or LSU would let Miles go and they might jump to the top of the queue.

Agree, that's what's so intriguing...lots of potential openings but limited candidates to fill them. So, do these schools just hang with what they have on since their options are too risky? Even filling the known vacancies will ripple through the ranks/staffs across the country.
Wonder if Tony Alford will make a run at some of these openings?

The Gamecock search has been interesting this week. Tuesday night it was a done deal - Tom Herman was going to be announced as the head coach this weekend. Overnight that whole situation blew up and the AD and Herman came out in fairly emphatic fashion denying everything. The USC faithful are so hungry for an immediate announcement that, by noon on Wednesday, the story had changed to Kirby Smart has already inked the deal and they are just waiting for the Clemson/USC game to end to announce the deal.

I feel like the Tom Herman thing is gonna happen, the denials just felt like the denials we often here from coaches just before they leave.

Unless John Gruden become available...

I don't know about that. Convict U isn't the kind of place for a hard-nosed coach who plays my-way-or-the-highway and actively tried to shove bad influences out the door. Hell, if it wasn't for bad influences, Miami would never field a team.

Yes but you know where that kinda coach will fit in? The seat that opens after BK is hired by the Giants. Paging GK...

I was wanting Strong at ND over Kelly last time around, but the ND community didn't want a HC without HC experience at the time. Strong went on to be great at Louisville.

I think Strong is a great fit for ND given the style of play his teams embody. The Kelly hire indicated that ND wanted to be an uptempo spread team (i.e., more modern), but that hasn't ever come to fruition. Instead, the style of play has been closer to what I expected of a Strong team. Thus, if Kelly does leave, I hope we land Strong. He'd kill it at ND (provided the ND mob gives him a chance... Texas doesn't seem to be very willing).

I don't think style of offense had much to do with why BK got hired. I think it was 20 years of HC experience.

I think they would like to but they have real financial problems with the Athletic Department so it is more likely that they keep Flood through next season, especially if they beat Maryland and end up going to a bowl game. If they fire Flood I believe they owe him $1.5M. This may not seem like an significant amount but even though they are a member of the Big 10 they do not get a full membership share of the payout for quite a few years. As a result the Athletic Department operates at a significant deficit and is one of the most heavily subsidized Athletic Departments in the county.

I'm terrified of chip kelly getting the USC job. If he does we better savor this years win because he may dominate us like Carroll did.
