I'm not sure I believe this myself BUT as the committee is allowed to account for injuries and ND just lost two more starters in a lackluster performance so they may be downgrading the Irish going forward without them. Show that you can beat a quality opponent on the road and that concern should dissipate.

While I may slightly disagree, the message is the same - weekly and last year - Show Me. We have that opportunity. Red zone turnovers changed the BC game.

OU has one and they don't have a chance for another, Oklahoma state 11.

AT THE TIME OF THE GAME. I do not know how many times I need to say it. OU is on the verge of having THREE STRAIGHT TOP TEN victories.

To this point in the season, ND has ZERO, and will only have 1, if they beat Stanford....who will fall out of the Top Ten, if ND beats them.

The "win and we are absolutely in" argument is just a fanboy fallacy. We need a CONVINCING victory and hope that others lose, which is disgusting because we controlled our fate is we just, you know, kicked 2 PATS.....

8 team playoff. Besides, even if we were in the ACC we wouldn't be in the championship game this year because we'd be in the same division as Clemson (as for other sports).

If the coaching staff would have changed the game plan a quarter earlier we win this game.

The Irish dug their own grave on Sat. Basically controlled their own destiny to the playoffs by playing well and stay in control against BC and then beat Stanford on the road. They played like shit and now getting their just reward. The fumbles near the goal line, numerous DROPPED passes, Kizer played like crap with throwing his "picks" and looked like he was preoccupied all night (including the hold on the extra point). Offensively, it was complete circus and now they need yo pull one out of their ass and get some help. The offense flushed this whole playoff opportunity down the drain as it stands now and it's up to them to take a step forward to get it back.

You are right, they've had so close games for sure. But when your 10-1 coming off a road win at the horseshoe, you look much more deserving than a 9-1 team that looked sloppy and won by three against BC.

ND is 10-1...

Ok I'm pretty sick of hearing about OUs top ten wins. I don't think we continue to point at Ga Tech as a top 15 win. Tell me all about those top 10 wins at the end of the year. Baylor will likely be the only one.

As a purdue alum (who hates purdue sports) even I have to say purdue gave msu a game. In Lansing....

How is beating purdue by 3 better than beating BC by 3?

So what is your solution to this problem? Go undefeated every year, and be held to a standard that nobody else is? Or move to an 8 team playoff?

Still plenty of ways for the Irish to get in. A strong win at Stanford coupled with an Oklahoma loss or maybe even a last minute win. MSU losing to Penn St. Iowa losing to Nebraska. Even my Bama team has to beat an Auburn team that has ruined our season two out of the last five years. Time to circle the wagons.

Oklahoma state is #11 right now. TCU was #18 when they played. Go look. If you are gonna spew shit get it right. If ND beats Stanford this weekend then they are tied.

Here i'll link it for you.

Oklahoma 2015 Schedule - Sooners Home and Away - ESPN

#6 Baylor

Top 10 win, it's not plural, it's one.

MSU/Iowa doesn't matter, but you cowgirls better get your fucking Cowboy pom poms out.

Honestly, I'm disappointed with Kizer and he better have a hell of a week of practice. His redzone pant-shitting is why we didn't have a good looking win, and why we're now behind Oklahoma.

Winning won't be enough because we know we can't blow out Stanford, so we really need OK state or some madness during conference championship week. Go Cowboys!!!

Right now, I'll take the UVA, Temple, and BC wins walking away instead of playing the "could have beat Clemson" card.

Not convinced about that at all. We beat Wake by 21. We beat BC. Did we need to cover? More than cover? How many other teams are expected to cover? Did OU cover against TCU?

I believe Long- this has more to do with MSU and OU than us.

BC is one of the worst FBS teams in the country, and they were an onside kick away from having a chance to beat us. For a supposed top 5 team in the country, that's pathetic. We needed to cover, at the bare minimum. If we had blown them out (21+), and if we had been more impressive vs Wake (not to mention letting Pitt get a couple of garbage time scores), you better believe we'd still be top 4. Probably 3rd.

Style points matter. They've always mattered. ND playing like jackasses these last couple of games is why we're down to 6th. Long's comments are nothing more than lip service.

All roads still lead to Oklahoma. Iowa and Michigan State will play each other. One or both will lose before the end, but I'm not counting on it. We lost ground to Oklahoma, understandably so. Gotta hope for a miracle in Stillwater, but if we don't get in at this point it's deserved given the injuries, and the turnovers that cost us the Clemson game and made us look horrible against BC.

Kizer did play like shit but we did have 450ish yards of offense and numerous drives to out us in a position to score quite a few points against a pretty good defense. Stanford's D isn't that good and we can score 40ish provided we play a good game. 10+ point margin of victory would be a statement, IMO. So 40-30 isnt impossible and a good statement

This thread is starting to remind of the epic speech Bill Murray made in the movie "Meatballs" where everyone chants "IT JUST DOESN'T MATTER......IT JUST DOESN'T MATTER!!!!!"

A win is not a win. BC win needing to recover onside kick is a joke. Wake Forest score was not indicative of how the game was played. A couple plays this way or that way and we're in trouble at home. Style points matter! Kelly has almost never finished with style and his team blew it at GT, Pitt, WF and now BC. Yes we know all about the injuries but the lack of a full game being played has been this team and Kelly and BVG's calling card. Being in the top 4 has been a big tease. I think they have listened to the hype and failed to live up to it. Kizer has played flat and this is Zaires job to take back. Same goes for Folsten next year. Maybe all this wil be a moot point if they play like a bunch of nincompoops against Stanford. It is unfortunate that several players wil miss the game but this team needs to play the all around great game for 60 minutes which means no more missed tackles! 10-2 would be good with all the injuries and 11-1 ridiculous. This team has depth. Kelly needs to open the playbook! I still think we win and we're in.

Guys ND sh*t the bed against a 3 win team. Enough said. Pound Stanford and they have a chance to get in.

I'm happy with 10 wins this season. No matter what we are going to a New Years six bowl.

This will be a true test of Kelly and staff's ability to lead. Down 6-8 starters, coming off of two uninspired games, and getting the news that you just got jumped by three teams. Hope that the captains and the other leaders get everyones minds right. BC didn't beat us last week but if we can't put that fiasco behind us then they will "beat" us this week when we play Stanford.

I of course wish we had covered in both the WF and especially the BC game. If the committee really cares more about wins against "good teams," the bigger problem is that we beat BC, not how we beat them. It's not as though OU dominated TCU.

We aren't going to go undefeated very often. We aren't going to cover in every win. The solution is simple: 8 team playoff.

Trending down two games in a row heading into last game. That is not gonna look great to the committee. I am not convinced we get in beating Stanford and then staying ranked in the top 4 after a championship week.

I hope I am wrong but this is what I thought would be most likely even at 11-1.

Three straight top ten wins because the conference played NO ONE ALL YEAR UNTIL THEY PLAYED EACH OTHER THE LAST THREE WEEKS.
If they mixed up their schedules a bit they might not have any top ten wins.
When you play has just as much to do with who you play.

Our fan bases are not friends and have no reason to be, nor do most of us care for the SEC or Alabama. Just wanted to make that clear.
