“There were lots of things I took away from Ohio State. The opportunity after football. Coach Meyer does it with Real Life Wednesdays where players get a chance to talk with Fortune 500 companies and ESPN Analysts. Guys are leaving as seniors, or me coming as mid-year so I’ll grad in three and a half years, guys are leaving with degrees and degrees don’t promise you a job. At Ohio State players are leaving with degrees with four or five jobs offering six figures because of the opportunities Coach Meyer is presenting them. You’re getting a chance to establish relationships with his contacts and it’s not what you know it’s who you know. That was fantastic, their development of the man.

You have got to be kidding me. Please pass the word to this clown that I have some oceanfront property to sell him in Indiana real cheap too.

per wiltfong---had good talk with people within the Notre Dame program and it sounds like he is remembering why he was always so high on Notre Dame

ALTHOUGH he is likely to be back at msu for the psu game...in home visits will be key

per loy--he still feels he commits to ND....announcing around 12/10

lol this recruitment is a joke. I mean, I can't blame the kid, but he's literally talking out of every possible direction his mouth will allow. I almost wish the recruiting services would just stop talking to him, but alas - MUST. GET. CLICKS.

This kid would be a great pickup, however I'm not going to lose sleep on him. He's a boy and will do what he wants and feels right. Simple as that. Hope he chooses Notre Dame, but not going to sweat it if he doesn't.

If there were ever a recruit who would commit and sign with ND, then transfer before his freshman season, it's this kid. Even that kid with the "sick grandma" whose name I'm not interested in typing wasn't this dizzy.

That recruitment had virtually no drama (outside of SC dedommitment) compared to this one.

Really? Just off the top of my head, this is what I remember about Vanderdoes:
  • Late 5:s: decommit from USC;
  • Silently verbals to ND, but wants to announce on NSD;
  • FIDM mistakenly includes Vanderdoes' info in the media packet they handed out to reporters on NSD, despite his not having announced yet;
  • Vanderdoes announces for ND and sends in his paperwork;
  • Mora, through his DL coach Angus McClure, continues to recruit Vanderdoes after NSD;
  • Rumors of academic issues pick up steam;
  • Vanderdoes asks ND to release him from his NLOI, but ND refuses;
  • Vanderdoes appeals to NCAA for relief with some bullsh!t story about a sick grandmother;
  • NCAA grants him a waiver so he doesn't have to sit a year;
  • Vanderdoes enrolls at UCLA.

Daelin has a long way to go to reach that level of drama.

This is all well and good, but you're missing one key point - all that drama was post-recruitment. 95% of it occurring on NSD or later. My point stands.

Some prominent analysts speculated that if Vanderdoes won his appeal, the NLOI would become a meaningless, and the current NCAA model would be weakened significantly.

I get your point, but if you're reaching for an example of a "drama-free" recruitment, Vanderdoes ain't it.

Matt Freeman posted something this morning on ISD about him possibly submitting EE paperwork to ND. Not a member, so not sure if it was suggested or if it happened. Any help is possible....

I haven't commented in this thread and I hope this kid turns out to be a beast but he has bust written all over him. Camp circuit all-Americans = combine champs for the NFL. They never turn out. Again, I hope I am wrong if he goes to ND but damn he has hardly played any football.

Should also add that the same source(s) that had him leaning OSU, now have ND squarely in it, if not leading. They're now claiming he has a better relationship with ND coaches (because of their time put in) and would feel more comfortable in our defensive scheme.

MSU running a distant 3rd.

A lot of competition to land this kid, why do we call it drama? 5 star status has a way of painting these kids as shitty people around here.

The real difference that i see it is that college teams dont operate under a salary cap. In NFL, if they dont pan out you're typically committing a high portion of your available cap on a player who might not be suited to starting regularly or playing in all aspects (i.e ru/pass game). Thats why teams cut and run rather than trying to find a lesser role. In college, at worst, we are adding more athleticism and speed in our reserves, getting more dynamic on special teams unit or putting a kid on medical scholly.

I think Daelin is a real risk too, but one i think we should take 9 times out of 10 if the kid has the right mental makeup to be a good teammate.

Yeah thanks for adding. Was running around and didn't add the rest.
