Assuming Stanford wins, this is my crack at this week's top 10:

1. Clemson
2. Alabama
3. Michigan St.
4. Oklahoma
5. ND
6. Iowa
7. Baylor
8. Ohio St.
9. Stanford
10. Michigan

With Navy checking in at 15th and Temple jumping back into the top 25 (barely).

I hope I'm wrong about OU. If I'm not, we're going to have to root hard for Ok. St. next week.
My biggest thing is ND has to essentially get jumped by 2 teams, personally I think if OU was going to they would have last week and i don't think tonight's performance helped much.

I think our performance tonight will do more damage than anything else. If ND had won by 20-30, I think they would have checked in at 3rd this week.

Unfortunately we played ourselves out of the playoffs . The committee will give huge weight to these late season big wins by the other one loss teams. They have to be rewarded big time and our pathetic play against a 3 win team has simply given them no real choice but to lower us substantially.

Its not good to fade at the end of the season while other one loss teams are having very big wins.

Going to be an ugly day Tuesday when reality sets in!

We were "solidly" at #4 coming into this week. The committee will look at body of work and we'll still be in the top 4. I'd be more worried about someone jumping us if OSU didn't lose.

The reason we sat above the other one loss teams , above all of them except for bama , is because all things being equal we had a tougher schedule and we had a "good loss".

We don't own that ranking they are fluid under this committee system and teams are totally revalued each week.

MSU is a one loss team that just beat the #3 Team

Baylor is a one loss team that just beat one of the last undefeated and sixth ranked team

Oklahoma has knocked off top ten teams two weeks in a row

What have we done the last two weeks ??

Played so so against Wake and stunk up fenway this week against the worst offense in division one

I hate to be a realist but its absolute fantasy thinking our loss to Clemson and wins over temple and navy will be enough to keep down these other one loss teams that are having huge signature wins balanced against our very poor play against BC.

These are not AP polls where you hold the spot no matter what---basically we blew it with this horrible effort and will pay dearly in the committee's ranking.

So the weirdest thing to consider here is that Oregon getting healthy/good is all of a sudden screwing over ND. First, they beat both Stanford and USC. That limits the value of beating Stanford, and worse knocked USC out of the top 25.

But then the kicker is that MSU owns a win over them... and suddenly that's looking like a top 20 win. MSU beat them at a time when Vernon Adams was hurt (he played hurth in their game), and then missed some games where they were would lose by 42 points to Utah and also drop a game to Washington State.

Since coming back to full strength, they've scored 61, 44, 38, and 48 against mostly quality opponents.

It lessens the value of stanford usc, but I don't think it makes a difference in us getting in/not getting in over a big 10. Whoever wins the big 10 is in unless it's scum bears.

Way off here. Baylor was never above us when they were undefeated. No way they jump us with a loss. I also do not see MSU jumping from 9 to 3 because they beat an over-rated OSU. The committee already mentioned part of OSU's draw was "defending national champs". They have only played one top 25 team and they lost. Also don't see Oklahoma jumping us. Been beat to death Texas (common opponent) and the fact they struggled against an injury plagued TCU at home almost giving up a 14 point lead in the fourth quarter (and should have lost if the TCU coach had a brain). Iowa I can see possibly jumping us since they were only one spot behind us. I agree with the order of everyone else but slide us in between Iowa and Oklahoma

We still have to play next week. And TCU is not a top 10 team.

All of this would be true even if we had covered against BC.

He said two weeks in a row. TCU was a Top Ten team last week. OU looks a lot more impressive the last two weeks than ND has been. I would not be surprised if we are not jumped...especially if Stanford blows another game. With USC losing, our best wins are against two AAC teams....which is NOT impressive in comparison to OU, assuming we both end the season with one L, even if Stanford plays USC in the P12 title game.

AND considering the fact that MSU beat OSU @ OSU, and UO has won five in a row, including a massive thumping of USC, this was a pathetic performance that will all add up to us being jumped by Iowa, MSU or OU, if not two of them.

They shouldn't get that much credit for the Oregon win cause Oregon was trash at the time. They lost by 42 at home the following week.

With a VERY injured starting QB.

And they crushed USC, whereas ND had to come from behind against a very mediocre Trojan team.

IF UO wins out, they will have only 3 losses, which is not that bad, considering how badly they were playing for a month there.

That will carry a lot of weight when you try to assess MSU's cases, provided they win the Big Ten.

At least Stanford won and will likely be a Top Ten team next week.

We really need USC to win vs UCLA next week too.

Ok? You just proved my point, Michigan State beat them with said injured QB by 3 points, at home.

You're a lot more confident than I am that the committee will say that's ND's trump card.

Well given that is actually one of the set criteria as a "de-facto" tiebreaker between teams, I think it's fair to believe that it could be a legitimate point of contention.

Hmmm interesting. Just watching College Football Final on ESPN and Joey Galloway had it as

1 Clemson
2 Alabama
3 Notre Dame
4 Iowa
5 Oklahoma
6 Michigan State

and when talking about ND's game he essentially said "Notre Dame had a tough game today against BC. They turned the ball over 5 times, but were still able to find a way to win against one of the best defenses in the nation." So for all you chicken littles i find it hard to believe we will drop at all, even though i've seen some on here saying as low #7, if even Galloway has us at #3.

That is all.

I think this is it also.

Ugly win and all.

This is it. Iowa and MSU will sort this matter out.

Okie St I think will beat OU.

Then we'll just have Stanford to worry about. Which is a lot.

So much talk about the Big 12 but all they're doing is old SEC, suspect teams are beating up on each other.

it makes sense to me

I am kind of torn on what to think.

As a fan: We played bad football and didn't look to be a top 4 team. Should be #5 behind Iowa and OU. Just ahead of MSU.

In General: We turned it over 5 times but we still won. We moved the ball pretty well. We gave up 21 potential points (I believe) to turnovers in red zone. I am pretty sure they allow less than 300 yards avg and we racked up almost 450. It was ugly but we survived. "Home" game but technically played on the road in a weird environment. Next week will tell us all we need to know. ND #3 or #4 this week.

I think it comes down to this:

The PAC 10 is out, period. Iowa is in if they win out, MSU is probably in if they win out (are fluke wins looked at by the committee - MSU over UofM was loss);

ND beats Stanford - 80% we are in. OU loss to Texas is a killer (a bad loss);

OkSU beats OU - we are in!

Personally, I'm rooting for Penn State to beat MSU in a hangover game and Michigan to beat OSU. Michigan then would play Iowa for the Big 10 title.

I'm a huge OkSU fan. They can absolutely win at home vs OU.

I think the rankings are:
Clemson;
Alabama;
ND;
Iowa;
MSU;
OU
(and no one else matters unless 3 of the top six lose).

MSU hops us but it won't happen til after they beat Iowa... They will have wins over Oregon, Iowa, Michigan and Ohio St... That is enough to be #3.... This week ND is safe... Prob 3, they win this week they stay at 3, then prob drop to 4 during conference championship week when MSU beats Iowa

There's still a lot of football left.

MSU-PSU is no gimme
OSU-scUM can go either way
Don't sleep on Iowa-Nebraska
OU-Okie Light is a toss up
Bama still has Auburn and Florida

I will feel very confident if we beat Stanford

First thing as NDLAX pointed out above, man Oregon is really killing us down the stretch...it will be up to the committee to realize this is a much different team then the one who played in East Lansing with a hurt QB. In addition, I think PSU has a great chance to play spoiler next week, and I can't see Iowa being more of a 7 point favorite at Nebraska so plenty can still go wrong for the big 10

Huston losing hurt Navy and their potential bid at breaking into the top 10 as well, but if they win their remaining three games I think they will be.

This will be the third week running that the national media at large has been screaming that ND should not be in the top 4, we shall see if that holds any say or if the committee continues to respect the Irish.
