And they lost Fabian Moreau for the year yesterday to a Lisfranc injury. Moreau was their best cornerback and a senior who was rated pretty high on some draft boards. UCLA will likely lose to AZ this weekend. I was at the BYU game last weekend and can say after watching them in person that UCLA is overrated...and that was before they lost their best player.

Edit: Nevermind, did not know Jack was out for the season. Don't see why he withdrew however.

So is Mora salty, or is this really a questionable move by Jack?

Because I thought Jack was the type of player that wouldn't need to prove anything else by playing a fourth year and risking (another) injury.

Dumb move imo... at least finish the semester, very shortsighted, especially for one who just had a serious injury.

Answer myself: he's just salty

I disagree... his goal is the NFL. Now he can focus strictly on rehab and preparing for the draft.

He can finish his education later if it doesn't work out, I'm sure.

It's UCLA under Mora, I doubt he had to spend that much time in earning passing grades to carry forward....

Haha actually that would have been my next point, same reasoning, just a different conclusion... it's UCLA under Mora, why would I stick around under that tool for an education that isn't elite when I could be preparing for my primary focus?

He also has a $5 Million insurance policy with a loss of value rider so he can collect if he falls out of the first round.

But isn't he the kind of player that needs to play more than a couple of games of his 3rd year?

Makes zero sense unless this guy was taking underwater basking weaving classes and was never going to see graduation no matter what year. Seems he would stay in at least through the draft for the free education.

Another "student athlete" that forgot the first part of the title.

I don't think so. Jack is a game changer. His skills can always improve, but he doesn't need to prove anything to the NFL that he hasn't already proven in his first two seasons. His calling card has always been his freakish athleticism, and that doesn't change because he only has two games from his junior season on tape. If anything, taking time away to focus solely on getting healthy to once again use that athleticism is probably his smartest move right now.

BUT that's just my opinion.

I don't agree with the crowd that says "can't believe he's abandoning his education" when he can return and finish out if he needs to.

Who knows, though? Maybe Jack was a straight-A student that can return and finish his education at any time. There is a very wide window for him to finish his education. There is NOT a wide window for him to try and make it in the NFL.

I think it does create some doubt as to his commitment... But money motivates a lot of people who are otherwise apathetic.

My point is he's already so far into the semester... just finish what he started so he doesn't have to back track later... that's all ... besides... you have a stupid face. ;)

THAT IS NOT HOW THIS WORKS.

Point taken, though.

Probably doesn't want to play school anymore. (Should have read the thread before commenting. PKT was thinking the same thing.)

And so UCLA begins their trip down fraud lane.

IMO fraud is a little harsh. maybe if you are talking strictly about the height of their ranking this year. This is a very young team. Only 2 SR starters on O, and 3 on D. I think they lack leadership, and likely have some morale challenges (primarily because of who the recruited, and how {Mora} they recruited). Mora is a great recruiter, and pretty decent strategist/coach.

That said, Mora is a slime ball, and they have some prima donna head cases. They will get better in the years to come.

F*** UCLA/Mora, F*** USC and ?, F*** Michigan (I still like Captain Comeback).

Fraud is not harsh. They were ranked highly in the preseason and that is proven to be fraudulent. I couldn't care less about their team makeup.

I did say the height of their rankinig was fraudulent... The team doesn't rank themselves. So in other words, we both agree that the voters committed fraud :)
