I think it's safe to say Redfield has been a bust. Even when he was healthy he made far too many mental errors. It's a shame Drew is injured again, because he played a great game today. I think I'd rather have Farley back at Safety though than trot Redfield out there.

You are talking out of your ass. You want Farley over Redfield, that cray.

You forgot the italics ;)

I'd rather have Drew in there at this point, but that doesn't look like it's going to happen this year.

As far as Redfield not being a bust yet, I think it's safe to say he certainly hasn't lived up to his recruiting hype. He was a 5 star by most recruiting services, was he not? Isn't the classification of a 5 star a player that will come in and provide immediate playing time, difference maker, etc? Redfield is in his 3rd year in the program and still struggles at his position. He can be a bigger liability than an asset at times. He's been benched twice now since being a starter in favor of younger players. Just a sad situation given the injuries to safety this year.

If his hand means he can't wrap up to tackle, then he has to sit until it gets better --- seems to answer the "mystery" here.

We also play a lot of man, so he will be in coverage. Bottom line, it's tough to intercept passes with a cast on your hand.

I wouldn't put too much into that tweet. It didn't say anything about him "not being part of the plan going forward ". We're playing Umass next week. I would prefer him to sit simply to avoid any further injury to his hand.

There was a #10 on special teams last night, but he was only on-screen for a split second and may have been Alize.

The guy I saw come off the field had the side show Bob hair and the white arm bands. Looked like Redfield as I don't think Jones has either. IDK though.

Yeah. Redfield clearly looked hurt against Va. and didn't see the field at all on defense against Ga. Tech. While I agree his play leaves something to be desired, I doubt he's being benched so much as getting time to heal.
For that matter, Redfield and Tranquil might play the same position, but they don't really. Tranquil's a run defense thumper. Practically an outside linebacker. Redfield is a true free safety who can handle deep coverage. The best we've got in that department. Tranquil (and Baratti and Farley) is more valuable against teams like Ga. Tech, but I suspect we'll see a lot of Redfield against Clemson and USC.

Looks like Tarzan plays like Jane?

Thought this guy was the best safety we've had at ND since I've been alive before he came into school. Was always wishing he would have a Vonn Bell type impact on this defense. I know he's hurt and you can't play GT with one arm. But hopefully he get's it together this year, a lot of season left to be played. I think we know for sure now though we won't be losing Max to the NFL and that's a good thing IMO.

Correct me if I'm wrong but they were talking about replacing Drue. I thought Drue was on the field even when Redfield/Shumate were also. I thought Drue took Onwalu's spot and not in the LB sort of way but almost like they were playing a 4-2-5 with Drue kind of in the middle?

Am I off?

No, I don't believe so but I don't recall seeing Redfield in there for any snaps.

Not just last game but the first two as well. Having a hard time remembering to be honest. My point was that I don't think they were finding Max's replacement.

No, no I think Max is our staring safety when he is healthy I think he didn't play this week because he basically has one arm. I am usually not in the right state of mind during games so like you I usually forget what happens during the games

We could be talking about two different things which I have been known to do in the past

We tried. That's all that really matters in a half assed conversation.

He played in garbage time -- not something I think would happen if he were an injured starter.

The first time I saw Redfield was on the trick play. He bit hard on the run fake. Like real hard. No cover for the DBs. Not sure he played much after that until garbage time.

Not true. He was playing in the next series where UMASS was backed up at the 1

Definitely noticed him a lot in garbage time, which had me wondering if it was tune-up time or remedial work for him. Was unsure how much he played earlier (I missed the first quarter).

Watching the game now. And after the trick play he played the remainder of the first half.
