With respect: NO COMPARISON.

Hegarty has his degree.

Why in the he!l can't people see that difference?

p.s. the "got it" WAS insulting, but I assume that was the point.

Relax. I'm not trying to insult you. I just find it interesting how some of us love to highlight the good of ND's intentions whilst highlighting the bad of other schools' intentions. Meanwhile, actions are virtually identical. And we all know that even if a kid had his degree at Bama, but was eligible for a 5th year and we heard through the grapevine that Saban - IN ANY WAY - "engineered" a way to get said kid out of the program, we would all be up in arms over how typical this unethical behavior is. I find it comical. If that offends you, then all apologies.

This is not aimed soley at you, OMM, BUT:

At Bama it's unethically forcing kids out, but at ND it's engineering a clever way to allow a kid to find football success? Got it.

It's unlikely (due to transfers and injuries), but the reaction around here will be interesting if this team somehow makes it through fall camp still at 88 players. There will be a chance, at such a point, that one or two guys who aren't fifth years are told they might want to look elsewhere.

*Again, I don't think this will be the case because Notre Dame attrition.

And I am 1000000% OK with coach doing that. My point was aimed at the use of the word engineering I guess. It just seems so dirty. My POV is that a kid is awarded a four year schollie. After that, NOTHING is owed, in either direction. If said kid is wanted back, but decides to go elsewhere - so be it. Conversely, if said kid wants in, but staff want to go in another direction- so be it. The only thing I would hope for is COMPLETE AND UTTER TRANSPARENCY by both sides.

I would rather BK sit Hegarty down and say, "Thanks for your four years, but unless there are injuries or transfers, there will NOT be a scholarship available for you this season. You're welcome to pay your own way or start looking at other schools. I'm happy to make any calls on your behalf."

I meant it will be interesting if there are one or two guys who have NOT expended four years that are asked to look elsewhere. I was following your point on Bama. We get on Saban and Urban for forcing guys out ahead of their time, but for the first time, there is a chance that we may see the same at ND.

Again, it won't come to that, but the reaction around here would be interesting if it did.

Kind of funny how after 10 days the usual suspects were saying "no one wants Golson" and he goes to Florida State the very next day. Meanwhile Hegarty's been searching for 3 months.*

*I think teams want Hegarty but he's just taking his time.

i was wondering if his previous health issues have his preferred schools doing their homework on him. hopefully he lands somewhere soon and can contribute. If he does well then it reflects well on ND and the coaching he got and depth that made him transfer in the first place

definitely a good fit for home. If Honniss Grassu can have a good year in the pro's and start some games then all the better for Matt as it will reflect well on him

I don't think that anyone would ever feel that they were guaranteed anything at a program like Oregon, but the article left me pretty hopeful for Matt. The other center said that two interior line spots are available and that he's training for both of them, having played guard last year some. Since Matt can also play both positions, one might see both Brenner and Hegarty starting. Hope that's how it goes.

I love everything about Matt. He was a really good player for Notre Dame; and of course I wish him the best.

But looking at ND's line this year, I see why he moved. Regardless of what way you feel things would have fallen, Matt is better in a program that values finesse, and he is better playing center.

He would not have been a clear number one center at ND, because Chris Martin has turned himself into a beast; and, getting Quentin Nelson in the lineup gives ND something they have not had in the lineup since at least the Holtz era; two beasts that can move and block in space, at guard.

So clearly Matt saw what he had realistically. I think this kid can play in the NFL; but he found a college to feature his strengths to the best advantage in Oregon.

Yup! I would be interested to see how Chris and Zach worked out this summer. Assuming that they did in fact have some time to work out together during the off season. Boy i'll tell you, what a first season Zach has had in the NFL and it looks like Chris will be following in his footsteps. We are slowly becoming offensive front U baby, hehe.

Seen that play and the announcers raved McDowell for it.

Textbook play right here. Got much lower leverage.

Michigan State is such a tough football team. Wish we could get a bit of that.

Actually picking out Matt's toughest play is unfair. I watched him most of the game and he did well --- because Oregon didn't ask him to try being a brute force guy. MANY times he got his block well. What we saw there in the McDowell back-bow was the reason that Harry went to NMart at that spot, and Matt knew that he had to transfer. But even with the one McDowell brute play, I'll bet that Matt had good OLine grades that game, as much as any of the Ducks had. Matt's ability to build himself up into more of a brute was really hurt by that whole year out going backwards strength-wise.
