If Loy would avoid doing the douche-bad things, he’d be much more respected in the industry and by those who follow these things closely. Case in point: Last year, a recruit tweets that he received an offer from ND. Instead of fact-checking, Loy has to be first, so he puts out a tweet saying that ND has offered this receiver from FL, and that he’ll have more later in a story on 24/7. Complete bullshit. So another reporter, who knows that ND wasn’t looking at said WR and also believes that the WR isn’t very good, contacts Tony Alford to see if it’s true. Of course, it wasn’t true, and Alford then has to start making sure other reporters get the word out that said WR was NOT offered by ND. But Loy got what he wanted…hits.
Another case in point…last week Matt Freeman from ISD goes to see ND commit Tommy Kramer, and takes Periscope video and posts it. Loy, sitting in his office, somehow does a story on the game with video – Matt Freeman’s video. And in doing so doesn’t even credit Matt Freeman. NOBODY with an ounce of credibility in this industry does that.
I have no doubt that Loy puts in his work, and is doing a much better job than he originally did. But I also have no doubt that he is very good at giving the appearance of hard work when none was actually done. And panda, Rivals has definitely fallen off recruiting wise, and I can’t speak for Scout, but ISD’s guys put out much more than you’re giving them credit for. Their Intel on Fridays are ridiculous, and they are always giving true updates on players. They had articles on pretty much every major player that was there this weekend. What they don’t do is give out fluff updates – updates that don’t say anything everyone already knows. Some people like those, and that’s fine, but for me anyway, well, that’s a waste of time. To each his own.
