In all honesty, all you did was confirm Hollywood's post brother...... Regardless of the coach or what players we have had ready or not, underclassmen or not, 2012 was the only season in recent memory where we had a decent, not great, decent pass rush. Last year was the closest to 2012 but even that was not enough. Sure there were some high spots here and there but Diaco's system never generated the pass rush either by plan or not and QBs have not had it rough against NDs DL outside of 1/2 of 2014 and most of 2012.
As for Weis' teams, outside of Hayseed, Ethan Johnson and Fleming, I am really struggling to even come up with a defensive pass rusher that was consistently producing.
Actually, not. The question
wasn't what year did we have a great pass rush. It was about fans worrying about it, and something better coming through.
So anyone bringing up the Weis years, is obvious obfuscation of a point by diluted logic and presbyopic attention to the point of the conversation. So throw them out.
So in five completed years :
2010 through 2012 were building years, 2010 being Kelly's first year, which showed a marked improvement on
anything Weis or his defensive ying-yangs put on the field!
2013 - don't know where you guys were, but there were little worries expressed with Nix, and Tuitt returning, and a change to a 4-3 (about 40 percent of the time.) I remember most people bitching that year about a passive defense, and sure people noted that Stephon was pudgy, but that was it.
Who watched football in 2014? Yes people were worried preseason, but we had some young guys do pretty damned well for playing with little or no experience. And pull out our really starter deficient games, and the defense didn't actually do terribly. At the beginning of the season, BVG said that he would have to get pressure with special packages and stunts, so anyone who worried about where it would come from or spent any time worrying about it was wasting time!
Better time spent taking about how defensive ends developed; Lewis-Moore, Tuitt, Rochell, Trumbetti, etc. I think these guys all got to a consistently high level, for where they started from. Lynch, did his thing and was gifted but basically uncoachable.
This was what spawned the whole brouhaha :
Aloha said, "We lack an elite pass rusher and BVGs scheme calls many blitzes that only accomplish taking guys out of the secondary levels......too similar to tenuta for comfort." And ,Balki said, "This has been discussed. BVG is nothing anywhere near like Tenuta. BVG doesn't blitz as often and his packages are much more subtle and less predictable. Needless to say, he's not going to bring the house every down like Tenuta did. As for elite pass rushers, I think we were hoping the same thing in 2012. We had lost our only legitimate elite pass rusher in Aaron Lynch, and we were hoping Tuitt and Shembo could develop into good ones. They did. Gotta be patient."
For all the people that want to see gloom and doom, want to bully or misrepresent what a poster said :
