If he does in fact choose ND, he will be coming in as a WR which I think is pretty interesting considering the depth we have there. I think it was a quick write up from Hopkins that I was reading but it said that Claypool is leaning towards playing offense in college and Notre Dame is recruiting him on offense (Oregon is recruiting him on defense).

Also, someone compared him to Alan Lazard. I had totally forgot about that kid

Barton Simmons has jumped on the ND to crystal Ball train. Didn't really need any further confirmation that he's picking ND but here ya go if you did.

This will be a big time boon for ND recruiting. A guy that will sky rocket up the rankings and pick us publicly on a big stage. I'm thinking he'll test/measure out really well at the Opening as well.

Did they let you into the event with your official IE t-shirt?

Press pah-sees? We don't need no stinkin' press pah-sees.

Usually not a positive.

could just be the smoke screen before committing to us..forget who it was but a parent of a current ND player was wearing a stanford hat during an all american game or the opening only to have them select ND--it was done to build up the commitment.; however with the way things happen at ND..could just mean he selects Oregon

Nothing is ever easy for us, hoping all the experts are right but you never know with our luck

Usually not a positive.

Sometimes not but unless something drastic changed in the last 24 hours Claypool will announce for the Irish in a couple of days.

Also, this happens a lot believe it or not. Recruits (or as mentioned, their parents) wear gear for one team on the first day, and fans freak out and and think it's a done deal, and then the next day they wear another school's gear, and then the next day a different school, just to drum up interest.

(Watch him choose Oregon now lol)

The Opening is a Nike event held at the Nike World Headquarters in Beaverton, OR. UO is Phil Knight's team. I assume he's merely being a courteous guest. We don't put much stock in the fact that most recruits who visit ND end up wearing ND gear at some point during their visit, do we?

Hickey just talked to him. She's not changing her ND prediction. He is announcing on July 10th.

Thanks for the correction. Edited my post above to reflect it. Hadn't heard he was connected with Oregon.

they were waaaaaay out in front at the beginning but then he began blowing up and taking visits and hasn't been much talk about them since--likely reason. no worries bud

Like I posted recently not even Hopkins thinks he picks Oregon. Not much communication between Claypool and anybody but ND at this point. I'll be very surprised if its anybody other than ND.

Claypool talks upcoming commitment

BEAVERTON, Ore. - Receiver Chase Claypool previews his upcoming announcement from The Opening with Irish Illustrated. Notre Dame remains in solid shape.

BEAVERTON, Ore. - Wide receiver Chase Claypool entered the Crowne Plaza outside Portland sporting a yellow Oregon visor around his neck.

“It’s mainly because I’m in Oregon,” Claypool said. “I’m making a commitment soon, though, and Oregon is one of the schools I’ll choose from.”

The four-star athlete from Abbotsford, B.C., will announce his commitment live on ESPNU on Friday, July 10. Michigan, Notre Dame, Oregon, Rutgers and Washington make up his top five.

“I’m really excited,” Claypool said. “I’m ready to get it over with, but I’m excited.”

Claypool took his first visit to Notre Dame for the Irish Invasion. Less than a week following that trip, he announced his intentions to publicize his commitment at The Opening.

“I love Notre Dame’s campus,” Claypool said. “It’s beautiful. The campus, everything. The coaches are great too, and I feel like I already know them pretty well.”

Notre Dame currently projects Claypool as a wide receiver with the option to develop into a hybrid tight end or outside linebacker. Oregon is recruiting Claypool to play defense.

Claypool also took visits to Michigan and Oregon in June, prior to the Irish Invasion.

“I like the facilities and the success (Oregon) has had developing players in the past 10 years,” Claypool said.

The 6-foot-5, 212-pound athlete says he does not have preference of position, though he’ll work out this week at wide receiver.

“I think my athleticism will my biggest (strength) this week,” Claypool said. “But then again everyone here is super athletic, so I would say it will be my ability to learn and adjust.”

Claypool will be the lone player representing Canada at The Opening.

“I want to rep not only my city but also my country and my future school,” Claypool said. “I don’t feel a lot of pressure, but there’s going to be a lot of people watching so I want to perform well.”

Claypool is a four-star prospect and is ranked as the No. 15 tight end in the Class of 2016.
