Not really fair to leave Golden Tate and David Grimes off that list. There are a lot of teams in the country that would have traded places with the Irish... Especially when Duval Kamara, a Top 50 player was one of your starters. Matt Shelton was long gone by then also... he was back in the Shark / Stovall days.

He's talking about depth. Now, in mentioning Shelton, he should have said 7-10 years ago, but his other than that he is exactly right. Who was backing up guys like Kamara and Tate? Our back-ups are now athletic kids that could start for many other universities, and probably do well. Guys like Hunter and Holmes are miles better than West and Shelton. That was his point.

Tate and Grimes were the back-up 8 years ago. Robbie Parris was the leading wide receiver and Kumara was lined up on the other side. Carlson was the leading receiver overall.

But overall, yes he was right. The depth at WR is better and much more plentiful than in 07-08... that I wasn't disputing only the fact that Golden Tate was part of that depth chart in '07 and that has to be mentioned.

It will be interesting to see how this current group shakes out when you can look back on it's production as compared to the 10 years ago receiving corp that you mentioned's production. Samardzija, Stovall, McKnight, Fasano & Carlson had pretty productive careers as really did David Grimes as a career 3rd option and to a lesser extent, Matt Shelton who had a couple of good years as a solid depth chart possession receiver.

Oh and Darius Walker was catching 50 passes out of the backfield too.

You're forgetting Robinson, who had a stat line of 40/539/5 (and he was hurt), and he's basically our next man in if you consider Fuller/Brown/Amir as the 3 starters. If we're talking just receivers, Robinson coming into this next year is simply outstanding depth, compared to the depth at WR in the year's we are talking. And as you said, the road to the field is much tougher today.

And the guys they are recruiting.... Vaughn and Sidney of Bishop Amat got TORCHED by Javon in the state playoffs. Throw the measurables out the window and watch his tapes from last year while paying attention to WHO he's up against.

100+ YAC against LB Poly with Biggie Marshall and Jackie Jones

14 / 240 / 4TD's against Serra HS with Brandon Burton and CJ Pollard.

11 / 282 / 3TD against Bishop Amat as I wrote above

13 151 / TD against St John Bosco and it's 5 FBS DB's.

7 / 103 / TD against Nicco and Bishop Gorman.

The only 2 teams that held him under 100 got blown out in the 1st quarter and he did it with a QB you'll never hear about Against the toughest high school schedule in the country.

I didn't forget him. He's part of the roadblock in the Top 5 receivers. I won't be surprised if he leads the team in receptions this year. Not because he's better than Fuller but because of MZ maybe having a feel for him like EG had with Fuller and TR had with Eifert.
