Anybody know why Wiltfong and Loy are so confident?

Anyone know why his rankings are all over the place?

Why do Scout and ESPN have a player ranked in the mid-late 30's at his position as a four star?

Based on his highlight tape I think Scout and ESPN have it right. Don't think his upside is that high.

1. Big on academics and tradition. ND and OSU are two schools that he grew up watching and cheering for.

2. IMO, his rankings are all over the place because they all are evaluating him at different positions or are unsure how to evaluate him. He plays a lot of LB in HS and they move him around a lot. - He's a SDE that grows into 3T.

3. As for Scout and ESPN I really don't know the only logical thing I can come up with is they think the position group has a lot of good players.

There are a number of people on a number of boards that are scratching their heads at ESPN rankings being well off of the other big boys in recruiting

Agree, by second or third year in a program he will be a 3 technique. I really like this offer and would be very pleased if he signed with ND.

Check the roster for the Under Armor game. They may need to get as many guys that they have playing in that game to have some type of higher ranking, meaning that others would be lower.

Notre Dame had been evaluating four-star defensive end Carlo Kemp for more than a year, and on Tuesday the Irish offered to the product of Fairview High School in Boulder, Colo.
“It feels really, really good,” Kemp said. “When I first started getting attention from them last year… and then going through the season and all of these camps, it feels so good to finally see it pay off and get rewarded for hard work.
“It’s been one of the best days I’ve ever had. The tradition of Notre Dame and it’s big-time football. It’s awesome they see me as a big-time football player.”
Kemp first jumped on Notre Dame’s radar at last year’s Irish Invasion.
“I met coach (Mike) Elston last year at camp, and he introduced himself,” Kemp said. “Then he flew to my school about a month ago, and that’s when I knew the interest had really increased.”
Peach Kemp, Carlo’s mother, texted her son on Tuesday an important message.
“I got out of practice and she had texted in all capital letters to call coach Elston,” Kemp said. “One of the first things he said on the phone was, ‘hypothetically imagine that you had a Notre Dame offer.’ That’s when I smiled over the phone because even that question made me think I was in for some good news. And 30 minutes letter, he finally said the words I was being offered. I had to sit down on the ground.”
Notre Dame likes the 6-foot-3, 260-pound athlete at strong-side defensive end, though he is projected as an outside linebacker by some colleges in his recruitment.
Kemp listed Colorado, Michigan, UCLA and Stanford as other programs “making a big presence” in his recruitment. From that group only the Cardinal hasn’t offered.
“I don’t have any favorites,” Kemp said.
“It’s still pretty early in my eyes. Going into the season, I’ll cut my list to five because you only get five official visits, which I’ll take in the fall before I commit and enroll early.”
Kemp does not have any set dates for visits this summer, but Notre Dame is a school he hopes to see.
“I definitely want to get to Notre Dame at some point before I start taking my officials,” Kemp said. “But I don’t have any dates or anything scheduled right now.”
Kemp is a four-star prospect and is ranked as the No. 38 defensive end in the Class of 2016.

Sampson says ND has a great shot with Kemp and if he had to predict right now he would predict Kemp to ND.

His tape is Ehhh. Not really a pass rusher we need a pass rusher. His tape is comparable to Jones.

His tape doesn't blow me away, with only 16 scholarships available we need to bring in difference makers not guys who will take 3 or 4 years to make an impact.

There will be at minimum 17 scholarships to give for this class. That number will likely be closer to 20 in the end. The team just lost two DEs that need to be replaced in addition to normal restocking.

While I agree a Caleb Kelly type would be great, a DE class of Okwara, Kemp, and Ogundeji seems likely at this point. If Kelly or someone like him wants to come on board later, even better.

And what difference makes does Notre Dame currently have a shot with? These difference makers are just knocking at the door to commit?

I'm sorry but anytime a 4* DL wants in, he's a take for me. Is he a high impact guy that's going to get 5-10 sacks a year as a freshman? Not likely but i feel like we'really selling Coach Gilmore a little short. This is what Gilmore specializes in. Gilmore is know for teaching multiple pass rushing moves to guys who are power players in highschool.

IMO you push for Kemp and then try to hit a homerun. You have Okwara, Jones, and Kemp on board and then you shoot for a high impact, weakside defensive end.

I'd take Kemp. He's a perfect fit in that Isaac Rochell, SDE role.

Vast majority of our base DE's are weakside guys (Okwara, Randolph, Trumbetti), with other WDE's being developed physically to play SDE like Blankenship and Bonner. Whereas Kemp would be at SDE right from Day 1.

Also, look at the players coming in... Julian Okwara is a WDE, and Jamir Jones, pending if he bulks up to play DE (weighed in at 6'3" 220 when he got his offer), I doubt could get into that 275-290 range to play SDE. But considering who his brother is, it's plausible. But, he may also be a SAM linebacker, so that's a wait-and-see.

This is the problem. Trumbetti - as much as I LOVE his game - should NOT be the crown jewel of rush DE recruiting over a 3-year period. I'm really very baffled by our inability to get difference makers to sign here, especially considering the near-guarantee of early PT.

Love ya, man. But I totally disagree. Trumbetti was a composite .9437 and a top 10 SDE recruit in the country. He came in as a freshman as a grown man. He played in 12 games and started in our bowl game. Which he played well in. This kid is a true sophomore coming off actual playing time that showed that he could play. In my opinion, when it's said in done... Any DL recruit is going to have their hands full taking that crown jewel from Trumbetti.

It's just so strange to me that with this kid missing spring with injury, people seemingly are now discounting his potential.

Obviously this is all opinion. But the last time I had this feeling for a sophomore having his coming out party... It was Tuitt.
